Do you think that the Federal Government should be able to take our guns away? I know I don’t want them to. Many people want guns because of protection against criminals. Others want them for recreation, and insecurity. Many gun owners feel naked without their firearm because they are vulnerable (theguardian.com).
Numerous people believe that if you ban guns, there will be fewer deaths. However that's not the case. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Guns are just a way to kill someone. If you put a gun in a mentally unstable person or a serial killer perhaps, you don’t think that they will kill someone. Down in Texas you can open carry (your gun doesn’t have to be concealed). That's why Texas has one of the lowest crime rates in the US. The murder in 2014 in Texas is 4.4 per 100,000 people compared to Illinois at 5.3 (disastercenter.com). If the government takes away our guns it is violating our 2nd Amendment. I feel like guns make people if they are educated about how they work.

The case was District of Columbia v. Heller and was decided on June 25th, 2008. The District of Columbia Code made it illegal to carry an unregistered firearm and prohibited the registration of handguns. The Chief of Police could issue one-year licences for handguns. Dick Heller was a D.C. special police officer, and he was authorized to carry a handgun when he was on duty. He was applying for a 1 year license that he wanted to keep at home but they denied him. Heller did sue the District of Columbia. So if he was authorized to have a gun on duty he shouldn’t have that right taken away to have a gun for self defense at home
Secondly, no citizen should have guns. I think if citizens that believe guns should be allowed because of our Constitution's 2nd amendment about "The right to bear arms" they are wrong. The 2nd amendment was part of the Bill of Rights (First 10 amendments) in September of 1789. In 1789, the US was different, people could bear arms because there was no police, there were wars, and they needed to hunt for their food. Back than they even had laws about Housing Soldiers, now the situation has changed and we need to realize that.
The Second Amendment says people have the right to carry concealed handguns. Judge Richard Posner said “must be interpreted to include a right to have a concealed gun in public, to have it ready for use, and have it for self defense”. The Second Amendment also says “a well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right to the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”. The Supreme Court has made a landmark that states ruling upholding the right of people to bear arms for hunting and self defense. The NRA argue that law bringing citizens who have gun can decrease the numbers of crimes, rates, and are safer from criminals. Since Virginia passed a right-to-carry law, more than 50,000 permits have been issued, not one crime had been dropped. Criminals are less likely to attack someone if they believe the...
For hundreds of years Americans have been growing up with the notion that it is a right to own a gun. Since the creation of the second amendment, people all over the United States have been able to guns for private use. Guns operated by the public are said to have a variety of uses such as, being able to protect oneself if conflict arises, grants the ability to put food on the table, and are used in competitions shooting targets against other people. But for many people guns have been seen as the root of all evil. Anti-gun users think that guns cause a variety of unexpected and innocent deaths. They also think that there are not enough laws in place that allow just about anyone to purchase a gun. The question of should guns be legal to all citizens has plagued our society. Do you think it is morally right for anyone to arm themselves and use it when they deem it to be necessary? Or do you think that the 2rd amendment seem unnecessary and outdated law that needs to be rewritten? These questions are just two of many that have thrown back and forth between pro-gun and anti-gun users.
This nation was built on the right to bear arms, but this freedom is more controversial than ever. With all the school shootings and gun violence in America today at some point it may seem that just too take away all guns may be the answer to this problem. In defense, this is not the answer. If someone wants to commit a crime, gun laws will not stop them from obtaining the weapon. It is like a drug. Drugs are illegal, but every day you see someone either with, on, or recovering from a drug habit. What about for defense right to own guns to protect your family if part of your constitutional rights. Rights that are supposed to be unalienable rights. Although in this day in time, they are always trying to take away guns either by trying to pass laws or taxing guns and ammo which almost makes guns unaffordable for middle class normal American families.
Should the government outlaw handguns? This has been a controversial point for many years. There are those who argue: yes handguns should be banned because it gives guns to the criminal, its dangerous in households and the Second Amendment was intended for militia. However, others argue that handguns should not be banned because they are in the second amendment, for self protection, and for the fact that they are already restricted so that not just anybody can own a handgun. Handguns should not be restricted because they are a right in the second amendment, they offer self protection and crime deterrent and that there are already restrictions put in place to control guns, and finally there are a couple of examples where handgun bans have not been effective.
The implementation of gun control in the United States is a large problem as it will take away the 2nd Amendment rights of citizens, while preventing law abiding citizens from protecting themselves from criminals.( Noyes, 3) The right to bear arms is promised to citizens of the United States. Crime is very high in states that have loose gun control laws. The state of Texas is known to have the most lenient gun control laws of any state in America.( Noyes, 6) However, the solution of taking guns away from people who are registered and licensed to carry them with no criminal record is not the answer to the problem. Americans have never responded well historically to prohibitions. (Baldauf, 7). Public concern about gun control has grown in Texas in the last two years due to the constant violence caused by Mexican drug cartels on the Mexico and Texas border. People in Texas have different beliefs when it comes to gun control, there are those who believe gun control laws are effective in reducing crime, those who believe that gun control laws are ineffective against crime, and those who believe that private owner ship of guns reduces crime.
First of all, banning guns will not stop criminals from having them, and there are so many ways that these people can obtain guns. It is pretty plain and simple; if you ban guns from everyone crimes will still be committed. Gun control “…ignores the reality that even if guns disappear, bad people will find ways to do bad things” (Wil...
...o militias, and dismissed his lawsuit. Heller perused his lawsuit; the matter was appealed and sent to the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. The Court of Appeals reversed the lowers court decision based on reasons the Second Amendment clearly mentions an individual may bear arms while serving in the militia, and the same individual has a right protect himself and his family as sacrosanct. The court concludes that the city’s ban on handguns and its requirement that firearms in the home be kept nonfunctional violated that right. In other words, an individual need not be in a militia to own a firearm, it is an individual’s right to own a firearm in self -defense. Heller concluded his defense by saying, “self-defense is a basic right recognized by ancient legal system to present, and it is the central component of the Second Amendment”
Right now the government has limited firearm purchasing only to people who pass certain steps. Gun control has risen as a controversial subject in the United States today. Many say gun control or banning of all firearms will help protect and make our country a better place. Reasons many are wanting to ban firearms are that the 2nd amendment is out dated and unjustified in this date and time. Writer Eugene Robinson states that “farmers wrote of “arms,” thinking about muskets and single shot pistols. They could not have foreseen modern rifles or high-capacity magazines.” Many agree with Mr. Robinson saying that back when the constitution was written they couldn’t have understood what was going to come in the future. Citizens also believe people have no reason to fight against intruders that come in their home that’s what the authorities are for. If people what to defend themselves why waste the money and time on having police? In this day and age why have weapons why not cut out all firearms and just be one happy country, it’s that simple, but is it really that simple? (“Assault Weapons Must Be Banned in
Gun control and gun banning have been a highly controversial issue since all the gun crimes hitting the news in America. Crimes like Sandy-Hook , Aurora , San Berdindno , and Oregon have lawmakers thinking about banning guns by enacting laws that allows them to. Lawmakers believe guns are the prime suspect in all these gun violence crimes and they believe it well reduce murder and violence. Banning guns well do nothing to reduce the mass killings. If a criminal has the intent to commit a crime nothing can stop them. Also a criminal doesn’t abide by the law that is why they are criminals. Gun banning would only disarm the legal law abiding citizen leaving them defenseless. Also the right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Constution and the Bill of Rights. If lawmakers have the courage take away one Constutional right they will have the courage to keep going, I have three logical reasons why gun banning well not work.
The second amendment to the US Constitution shows that it is unconstitutional to have complete and total gun control. The second amendment states that “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” This means that it is the right of an American citizen, abiding by the constitution, has the right to bear arms. Currently, there are over three hundred and seven billion people residing as American citizens. Within the homes of these Americans, forty five percent have a registered gun in their household. As a diverse nation, there are many reasons why there are guns located within a household. Sixty percent stated the gun is used for protection against int...
“It’s not gun control we need, it’s sin control” (Si Robertson). The government can’t control what people do with their firearms or who has them in their possession. Gun control does not decrease crime. With or without guns people will still find ways to harm others and even with a gun ban people will still find away to either make or buy a gun illegally. With a gun control law in place there is no good way for citizens to protect themselves. Even though some may say it that it will stop some of the crime, there are many reasons that prove that gun control doesn't decrease crime.
The topic of gun control comes with a widely spilt crowd. Some people believe that gun control is essential, especially in today’s world. Some people think gun control will help with decreasing crime and making the nation a safer place for us to live. On the other hand, there are people who speak of anti-gun control. These people believe the right to bear arms would make our nation a safe place to live due to the fact that we would have protection. Do you think the Government has the right to make something illegal like the right to bear arm? In my opinion, the Government cannot simply because it will be an offence to our founding fathers, who gave us the national right to bear arm. Also, for making
Besides, more people use their guns in self defense every day than to take the life of another fellow man. the ratio to people using guns for defense to that of killing is 80 to 2. That should prove that guns help more than they are a bad thing. The constitution says that we as americans can own guns no matter what. It is unconstitutional to take away that right without voting for it first. Most people only use their guns for fun or for self defense. But all the pro-gun rights think that people only use guns for malice and hate.Over 2.5 million americans use their guns for self defense every 6 months. If we had no guns what's to stop people with a knife or a pipe trying to rob or even kill us? america has a right to own guns and as loyal americans we s...
There are laws that people are trying to get passed that would make it illegal for people to carry guns in public rather it be concealed carry or open carry that might help in some cases with shootings on the streets and stuff but what that would do is it would hurt the majority which is law abiding citizens who want to obey the laws and be protected by the police and any other form of protection who want to know if they needed to they could protect themselves, there family or anybody else around them if they have to if guns are made illegal they can't do that and if guns are illegal the people breaking the law already aren't going to care if carrying a gun is illegal they are already robbing, murdering or whatever else they were going to do making guns illegal is just another law they would break and if guns were taken away completely from people laws would still be broken people would still be killed and robbed the attackers would just find other weapons like bats, knives, clubs, explosives,or just fists the U.S. murder rate with guns from 2010-2014 was 8124 and death by other methods like knives, drowning, strangulation and even explosives was 3837 so even if guns are outlawed there's still many other methods people could use that could be way worse of a way to die i'm not saying getting shot anywhere is a good way to die but i'd rather be shot then stabbed or blown up or clubbed I think it would hurt a lot less. The second amendment states that The right of
