Do you think that the Federal Government should be able to take our guns away? I know I don’t want them to. Many people want guns because of protection against criminals. Others want them for recreation, and insecurity. Many gun owners feel naked without their firearm because they are vulnerable (theguardian.com).

Numerous people believe that if you ban guns, there will be fewer deaths. However that's not the case. Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Guns are just a way to kill someone. If you put a gun in a mentally unstable person or a serial killer perhaps, you don’t think that they will kill someone. Down in Texas you can open carry (your gun doesn’t have to be concealed). That's why Texas has one of the lowest crime rates in the US. The murder in 2014 in Texas is 4.4 per 100,000 people compared to Illinois at 5.3 (disastercenter.com). If the government takes away our guns it is violating our 2nd Amendment. I feel like guns make people if they are educated about how they work. …show more content…

The case was District of Columbia v. Heller and was decided on June 25th, 2008. The District of Columbia Code made it illegal to carry an unregistered firearm and prohibited the registration of handguns. The Chief of Police could issue one-year licences for handguns. Dick Heller was a D.C. special police officer, and he was authorized to carry a handgun when he was on duty. He was applying for a 1 year license that he wanted to keep at home but they denied him. Heller did sue the District of Columbia. So if he was authorized to have a gun on duty he shouldn’t have that right taken away to have a gun for self defense at home
