Gum chewing is banned in many schools. But should it be kept that way? Many are against the gum chewing not permitted in schools. But others say it should be kept that way. Gum chewing can cause many problems.Such as dental decay, and health problems. In addition, it can get stuck anywhere if the person who chewed it was to be irresponsible. Finally, it can be disruptive to many classmates
To start off,gum chewing can cause many health problems.Such as dental decay.According to Disadvantages of chewing gum it states, ¨Sugared gum can with heavy use cause tooth decay, gum disease and cavities. This happens because sugar coats the teeth, and can slowly cause damaging of tooth enamel if they are not immediately brushed.¨ This information shows that gum is not healthy for our teeth instead is it a way to destroy them. Also gum can cause kidney problems which is a big deal.According to

Chewing Gum Negative Effects and Disadvantages it states,”If the cavities in your teeth are filled with mercury fillings, frequent chewing of gum may cause their dislodging and releasing of this dangerous material in your metabolism. The most common target of mercury is blood, urinary tract, nerves and brain.” This shows that not only gum can cause dental decay but it can also cause kidneys to stop working properly. Another reason why gum should not be allowed in school is because it can get stuck anywhere.
In the letter written by principal Mackey it states, “Think about how much our custodial team does to keep our school clean. If I allow gum, the custodians will inevitably have to add scraping gum off desks, water fountains, and carpets to their list of things to do.” This shows that even though gum can be beneficial to many students learning. It can make the custodians work even harder to keep the school clean. Also in 8 reasons why Gum Has no Place in the Classroom written by Jake Miller states, “ This is probably the number 1 reason to prevent gum chewing. Our middle school is nearly 60 years old, and it’s in pretty decent condition. A large reason behind that is the fact that gum is and has been prohibited. Compared to the high school that I taught at, which is less than 10 years old – I still remember going to get a drink from a water fountain that was splattered with gum, someone even wrapping their gum around the faucet. Nasty!”This shows that gum can ruin a school making it look
unpleasant. Although some might say that gum can actually help students focus better and understand. Such as Vanessa Jacobs, she wrote a letter to the principal stating that, ““Many of my classmates say that chewing gum helps them focus, and according to my research, they are not alone. Teachers in other schools have reported that students who chew gum in class pay attention better and stay focused longer than those who do not.” In reality gum can distract students and make them not focus in the class. In 8 reasons why gum has no place in a classroom it states, “Gum snapping and bubble blowing is distracting. There are silly things that students do unconsciously or even consciously when you turn your back to make one another laugh. Why give them another?” This excerpt shows that gum is disturbing and students won’t pay attention in class.
According to the American Dental Association, gum disease, also referred to as periodontal disease, occurs when the tissues that support and surround your teeth become infected. Many people are unaware they even have gum disease, because it isn’t a painful disease. Periodontal disease is caused by a film of sticky bacteria called plaque forming on the teeth.
Having different food can affect a child health. There are milky ways, cake, cookies, pizza and lets just add some French fries in there and call that lunch. Don’t forget the drink sweet tea, pop and milk that one doesn’t choose to drink it. The students would go back to the class rooms after twenty minutes and be hungry at the end of the da. Garland said, “Instead, we allow school cafeterias to dispense the same junk food that kids could buy in any mall” (621). There has been so much junk food and soft drinks in schools that makes the student health unsafe and a distraction to their education. Garland mentioned that the students are filling up with fat, salt and sugar rather than filling up with fruit, whole grains and vegetables. Schools should be about healthiness, and well balanced diets. With having Students eat healthy can boost up their energy and ability to learn. With that being said when I was in high school it was nothing but junk food for three years. When Michele Obama changed the law on the school lunches my senior lunches have changed. It was nothing but healthy food like whole grain, no sweets, two scoops of fruits and vegetables. At Odessa they had a school store loaded with junk food that would be sold out by forth period. When the law came to the school there was nothing but baked chip and replaced with other baked nutrition food or we had nothing at all. The drink machines were changed out
According to the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, it stated that the nicotine in smoking cigarettes can be very dangerous, damaging to the human body. It’s known that smoking can cause chronic lung disease, coronary heart disease and stroke. In addition, smoking also causes cancer of the lungs, larynx, esophagus, mouth, and bladder. Smoking tobacco products is also known to contribute to cancer of cervix, pancreas and kidneys. People that don’t smoke tobacco products can also be harmed by second hand smoke. To begin, chewing gum is fun, but should it be allowed in school? Chewing gum can help students in many ways including helping keep one’s teeth clean and breath fresh. According to New Yorker, “Some people actually feel that chewing gum can stimulate your saliva, which can help keep the teeth clean,” With clean teeth and fresh breath, students can focus on their own work and not on how embarrassed they are. Students may just be distracted from how stinky their neighbors
causes tooth and gum disease, cancer, and even death begins to start. The negative side of this
The thing I dislike the most about chewing gum is where people leave it, on the bus, under tables and on the floor. It’s disgusting! Have you ever accidentally stepped on a piece of chewing gum just walking down the street? It gets stuck to your foot all day, you try and scrape it off, but it just isn’t budging. You then have to resort to using your fingers to pick off somebody else’s revolting ball of goo. People try and stick chewing gum where ever they can. What’s wrong with a bin? I was in class the other day and my knees touched the underside of the desk. I felt something squidgy touch knee (it was repulsive). Its not exactly hard to put something so small into a bin.
You might guess it’s a custom dreamed up by a modern-day, real-life Willy Wonka, but people have been chewing gum, in various forms, since ancient times. There’s evidence that some northern Europeans were chewing birch bark tar 9,000 years ago, possibly for enjoyment as well as such medicinal purposes as relieving toothaches. The ancient Maya chewed a substance called chicle, derived from the sapodilla tree, as a way to quench thirst or fight hunger, according to “Chicle: The Chewing Gum of the Americas” by Jennifer P. Mathews. The Aztecs also used chicle and even had rules about its social acceptability. Only kids and single women were allowed to chew it in public, notes Mathews. Married women and widows could chew it privately to freshen their breath, while men could chew it in secret to clean their teeth.
Around the world it is known that tobacco products can be harmful to your body. Globally, tobacco is the leading cause of certain cancers and heart diseases. Some people may not realize that the ingredients in a cigarette are not only harming their heart, but also their mouth. Cancers can first be detected in the oral cavity since it is the spot that cigarette smoke hits first. Although smoking and tobacco use has gone down in the past years people find that it is very hard to quit. Because of this, they turn to electronic cigarettes. But what if these “e-cigs” are just as harmful to the mouth as a normal cigarette?
While your wonderful piece of gum slowly slides down your throat, you never realize that it actually gets stuck there. The gum catches on your esophagus, waiting there for more pieces of gum to link together. However, throughout the years of you accidentally swallowing your gum, the leftover gum in your esophagus will patch over each other, one on one, creating a huge blob of gum that will keep growing.
as being far from harmful. People that decide to follow this habit, don't grasp the actuality of it. is very dangerous to their health. As well, they have no idea that it is also threatening to the people around them, such as friends and family. Cigarettes, whether you smoke twenty a day or.
When we chew gum, we are basically chewing rubber. Gum started out as latex sap from a tree (the sapodilla). The tree grew in Central America, and the sap we chewed was called chicle. Chicle has the same properties as rubber, because it doesn’t break down when we chew it. Later, after World War II, scientists found a way to create something called synthetic rubber. Synthetic rubber is still similar to chicle because it still doesn’t break down when you chew it, but it isn’t natural like chicle is. (How Stuff Works, 2000… April 1st)
Cigarettes not only contain harmful substances, but they also can cause erectile damage. dysfunction in men and illnesses such as cancer and lung disease (http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=3009767). Cigarettes are full of substances that are harmful not only to the smoker, but also to those around him or her. Smoking not only harms the smoker, but also those around them. For years it had been thought that smoking only affected smokers and non-smokers were not at risk at all, but after years of research it.
“The unfortunate thing about this world is that good habits are so much easier to give up than bad ones” (Somerset Maugham). Almost everyone has good and bad habits but the bad ones can lead to addictions. When it comes to tobacco addiction, it is a habit that leads to different diseases and causes death. Tobacco should be illegal.
Well there are a couple of reasons why food is not allowed in class, why that is because people do not clean up after themselves and it is just a bad habit to keep doing that.Kids need to be paying attention to the teacher in class, and if they are eating not only are they more focused on that but other kids may be sitting back with their own mouths watering not paying attention either. Also Eating in class may create a mess. And Many students may be eating a candy or chips, but they usually leave it behind or they miss the trashcan and never pick it up. Most of them will spill their snack on the floor and if possible, and there might be a bug infestation. Therefore, eating in class should not be allowed.
One last very severe effect of smoking is teeth decay. The reason for teeth decay is tobacco products which damage your gum tissue by affecting the attachment of bone and soft tissue to your teeth. An example of the effect is receding gums. A receding gum line exposes the tooth roots and increases your risk of developing a sensitivity to hot and cold, or tooth decay in these unprotected areas. Additionally, smoking can also contribute to bad breath, stains in the teeth and a build-up of tartar on the teeth.
