Guha described in his article that only middle to upper class individuals care about environmental problems occurring. This can be because money that impoverished people have need to go towards food, shelter, clothing, and other necessities, not environmental movements. Although, maintaining the environment, in my opinion, is essential to human existence. Humans should not want to live in a place where the smog chokes a person when they walk outside. Therefore, to learn from Guha, more programs to help and improve environments in areas that are poor are necessary. This could also lead to better health conditions for individuals, as smog and other problems can affect people negatively. Maathi depicted the conditions when she was born, and how Christians came in and taught beliefs to her people. They soon moved her people out of the area. The author was taught to be gentle and respectful to animals by her mother, and to not be afraid or …show more content…

One piece of the article that I found interesting was on page 138, “Education, if it means anything, should not take people away from the land, but instill in them even more respect for it, because educated people are in a position to understand what is being lost. The future of the planet concerns all of us, and all of us should do what we can to protect it. As I told the foresters, and the women, you don’t need a diploma to plant a tree,” (pg. 138, chapter 6). This paragraph, to me, was the most influential part of all the readings. It shows that individuals who have an education should encourage others to do beneficial actions for the environment. It also sheds light that ALL people can work to make the Earth a clean, nurturing place, no matter who a person is, or where they reside in the world. Granted, more programs need to be available to assist individuals in making a positive change, but then it would be just that easier to help improve environmental
