I grew up living on the coast of the Pacific Ocean between San Francisco and Half Moon Bay. I was walking distance to Lindamar Beach and a Bart train ride to Union Square in San Francisco. Every weekend, my extended family and I would go to Chinatown. This was one of my favorite activities growing up. Running down the street, looking for Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, then later getting a bunch of Fun Snaps, miniature novelty fireworks that make a loud noise when thrown on the pavement. A few years later, my family and I relocated to the East Bay, specifically Antioch. With my Grandma, Aunt, and cousins still close by, we would constantly plan family trips to explore. One of the many advantages of living in the Bay Area is having unlimited access to over 65 regional parks. Bay Area natives are all about great views and great vibes. The hiking scene was almost created for them. With lush Redwood groves weaving close to the coastline, it is fairly easy to see why so many come to hike this forest. However, the Bay Area regional parks have been under fire for not preserving the wilderness and the Redwood trees. Many believe that allowing thousands to hike and set up camp is unlawful and constructive to the regional parks. Specifically, in “The Fight to Preserve the Redwood Regional Park” Berkeley Law explains that: “Wilderness preservation requires that entire ecological units be kept largely free of human interference” (Dale A. Hudson). That being said, many have readjusted their views about conserving National Parks and wildlife. However, the majority, myself included, are still going on hikes with friends and family. Whether it’s from a food truck or an underwater restaurant, it’s not hard to find a good bite to eat. The Bay Area is always in high demand of new restaurants. In Washington Posts “Why San Francisco Is One of the Best Cities in America to Eat in 2015” author Tom Sietsema reported, “The backbone of his city’s vibrant culinary scene is its audience. San Franciscans, in general, are highly aware and supportive of not only our local restaurants, but also our local farmers, artisans, and growing areas It makes for a dining scene in which people are fully immersed in our food culture” (15). The food culture is a huge advantage for the Bay Area residents. On the other hand, many illustrious family-owned restaurants have been packing up and leaving due to high demand in their real estate. KQED news reporter, Sam Harnett, wrote in “Mission District Restaurant Landlords”: “If you’re a small business owner in a hot neighborhood, there’s not much to stop a landlord from jacking up your rent once the lease is up”. This illustrates the hardships of family-owned restaurants being unable to afford their rent and forced to leave. Bay Area residents are quick to contribute to the food revolution, regardless of price. Many residents try to keep the money circulating within The City by purchasing from local farmers and family-owned shops. I cannot deny that I have not taken advantage of the Bay Area’s amazing food
