As we develop through life and age, we develop different moods and attitudes within life. As we grow up into being adults we see life differently, and being successful in life in another way we use to see it in our childhood. In our mindset, we have different personalities in the way we want to be successful. There are two different types of mindsets, there is a fixed and a growth mindset. Each one of us decided what type of mindset we have, by thinking in different ways. By knowing what kind of mindset you have you need to know the meaning of each one. What does mindset mean? Mindset is an attitude, disposition, or mood of a person. Your mind works by they way you take your attitude and moods. When it comes in talking about a fix mindset; it is the believe a person has that they can accomplish anything without trying too much. As well as spending time thinking if they can or can’t accomplish what they want to get done. In a growth mindset; it is on how a person believes that they can accomplish anything with trying harder and believing in themselves. A fix mindset is a very harmful usage of your brain because you aren't giving your brain the best power to do things the right way.
By having a fixed mindset you aren't encouraging yourself in doing things right. For example, in a fixed mindset you would like to try playing soccer, once you get involved in a soccer team. You play in a few games, after playing in a few games you see yourself with no progress in making any goals. You tell yourself that you aren't good for playing soccer and that you won't ever make a goal for your team. want. A growth mindset is whatever you want to accomplish, you will accomplish it no matter what. You will try everything you can to make your goals come into reality even if you fail a couple of times. For example, when you were a child you always told yourself that once you were able to drive; you wanted to learn how to drive a motorcycle. Now you have been driving for a motorcycle for couple of times but don't seem to get the hang of it. You tell yourself that you know you will learn if you practice and practice. You are working with a growth mindset because you aren't telling yourself that learning how to drive motorcycle isn't for you. You are giving yourself your own strength that you will learn and look for more help, to get to the point where you want to be at. Even though fixed and growth mindset are different concepts, they can be changed over time. A younger person can have a mindset that can be changed over time. We don't have to stay with one concept the whole time. We change the matter on how we use our brain/mind so do our concepts on how we work with them. Growth mindset mostly comes in from education, using the growth mindset in education by growing with effort and accomplishments. And using fixed mindset in education comes from putting in work but not with all their strength, also people don't study as much they need to. They make comments on how they feel dumb, or that they are getting smarter with the material.
It was not until I read Carol S. Dweck’s “Brainology” that I realized I had a fixed mindset. I care more about getting a 4.0 than actually understanding what I am being taught and I also hate struggling. These habits are part of having a fixed mindset. It was after reading this article that I discovered I could change my mindset and be successful. Having a fixed mindset means that you believe that you and others only have a certain amount of intelligence. A growth mindset on the other hand, is believing that everyone has the ability to reach a higher level of intelligence through effort and hardwork.

In the book Mindset – The New Psychology of Success author Carol Dweck breaks down the meanings of a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset. A fixed mindset is when a person sees their failures as being an unsuccessful person. These fixed mindsets do not aim to challenge themselves due to the possibility of not succeeding or being seen dumb. They are discouraged by failing and hold back in life. Carol Dweck describes this has unhappiness. A growth mindset is a person who welcomes failures and takes these failures as a challenge to grow from their mistakes. There are many attitudes that form certain mindsets. Some of these mindsets can change how a person does and perceives things. Some mindsets that can do just that are Dweck’s example of a growth mindset and fixed mindsets. According to Dweck, a fixed mindset is one in where “.. students believe that intelligence is fixed..” and a fixed mindset is the “..believe that intelligence is a potential that can be realized through learning. As a result, confronting challenges, profiting from mistakes, and persevering in the face of setbacks become ways of getting smarter. Because people with growth mindsets can through setbacks, and find alternatives to better themselves; They turn to perseverance and hard work to achieve their goals.
A growth mindset is the belief that you can learn anything you want without a limit. You will not give up and face any challenge in life until you overcome it. A fixed mindset is the belief that you can learn till you reach a certain point. Also, that you will not succeed in life and as soon as you come across a tough challenge you will let it bring you down and won’t ever get back up or face that challenge. Since reading “Brainology” by Carol Dweck, I discovered that I have a growth mindset and fragments of a fixed mindset my whole life.
Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. The final point that Angela makes is that growth mindset is a good way for building grit. Angela said that growth mindset is the belief that the ability to learn is not fixed, but can be changed with your effort. In school there are cases where very intellegent kids just don’t have that push or motivation to be successful, but then there are the kids that get a straight A’s even though they aren’t necessarily the smartest kids in the class.

Students in a growth mindset understand that failures are temporary setbacks. That means they must be an effort in the learning process more vigorously. Throughout my life I have always coasted through everything that I have ever done. When it came to school you could describe me as an average student when compared to my friends, I always did the bare minimum that I needed to pass, when it came to outside of school it was the same thing when ever my mom or dad told me to do something I always to put in the least amount of effort to accomplish it and waited to the last minute to start doing it. It is well known that telling a kid she is smart is wading into seriously dangerous territory.
People with a fixed mindset are usually not motivated to do challenging work, apply very little effort, lose confidence after mistakes, and are intimidated when things get difficult. And I have experienced some of these situations. I get less motivated when I have more work, don’t try my best, and I put myself down after low grades. I lost confidence in myself after every setback, but I should of been looking to learn from them. I should actually look back and see what I could have done differently after a setback instead of degrading my own morale. For example, I could change the way I approach a test if I really messed up on the last one, or I can stay motivated at every task at hand.
