The idea for Groupon was created by Andrew Mason whose decision to focus on group buying proved to be a wise one. When it first launched, the company offered one Groupon a day in each of the markets it served. Today, numerous deals are offered everyday. The way it works is consumers are able to search and browse deals via web or mobile and can subscribe to receive emails featuring deals they are interested in based on preferences they input. As for the businesses, they don’t have to pay any upfront cost to participate. Overall Groupon encourages new customers to try local businesses.

More recently, Groupon created Groupon Now which is aimed at smartphone and tablet users. A lot of companies had problems with group buying promotions (just like the one's you see on regular groupon) because they would get a huge amount of customers …show more content…

The idea is that people will take a look at the app 30 min before going for lunch to see what the daily deals are. The application consists of two buttons: "I'm Hungry" and "I'm Bored.” Once a user clicks on one of the buttons, the app then locates the closest and best deals for food or entertainment, respectively, using that individuals geolocation. When it comes to marketing Groupon now for customers, I would use the radio, online websites and signage to promote the app. I would use the radio to advertise because people love music. They also spend a decent amount of time in their vehicle as they drive to and from various places which means at some point they will hear the ad. I would use online websites because the internet is a popular thing these days. I would have the online ads set up where the ad pops up on the side of whatever website an individual is on. Lastly, I would use signage at the various businesses that are involved in Groupon Now, to ensure customers they are at the right location for the Groupon Now
