Dr. Seuss is probably known as the most popular children’s book author in history. Green Eggs and Ham is about a man named Sam who is trying to get someone else to try green eggs and ham. Sam follows him around relentlessly asking him to try them. The man turns Sam down over and over saying he does not like green eggs and ham, but he has never tried them. Finally at the end, the man tries green eggs and ham and turns out to like them a lot. Through that character, Dr. Seuss uses the theme of exploration to develop his book and can be related to people coming to know God. Seuss uses the green eggs and ham to symbolize new things. Eggs and ham are not meant to be green, so this would be different for anyone to try. The book shows how hard it is for a person to step outside of their comfort zone. The protagonist repeatedly rejects the green eggs and ham assuming that he will not like them. In many cases, people do not have a good reason why they do not want to try new things other than the fact that they are scared. They are scared of what could possible happen to them, or in this case what it would taste like. Eventually the protagonist in the book take a chance and tries the green eggs and ham. Low and behold he liked them so much that he tells Sam that he would eat them in all the situation that he had previously said no to.” I do so like green eggs and ham! Thank you! Thank You, Sam-I-am” (Seuss). He appears to be more joyful, and he is thankful to Sam for making him try them. God is constantly asking people to love him. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this; He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn your vindication like the noonday sun” (Psalm 36). He ask them to love him in every situation that they are in. Whether in a good or bad situation, he does not care he just wants people to love and trust him. Just like the protagonist, many people brush Him off and they do not want conform. They think that they are perfectly fine without loving him, or they are scared to know what will happen if they do. In the end of the book, the main character does not try the eggs and ham until his boat was sunk and he had nowhere to go. This relates to people only turning to God when it is there last resort. They then see how good God be and realize what they have
