The Green Bay Packers have had many excellent players and extraordinary coaches. Most people when they hear of the Green Bay Packers think of recent coaches and players such as Aaron Rodgers, Brett Favre, and Mike McCarthy. Still there are as well as many great Packers football stars from when the team first came to be. Like the person who started it all Earl Lambeau. The roots of the Green Bay Packer’s can be traced back to Earl Lambeau. Today Lambeau is honored by having the Packers’ stadium after him. Lambeau grew up in the town of Green Bay, Wisconsin. The town of Green Bay has always been huge football fans. Long before the Green Bay Packers and before the NFL. Lambeau grew up in this football loving environment. Therefore he played football. He was a natural. “By his senior year, he was the top player in the city, and a punishing running back who excelled by plowing though, not around, tacklers” (Gulbrandsen 13). Lambeau was a different type of football player. The ball was different than today. According to Gulbrandsen “The ball was more of a spherical and less bullet-shaped than it is today” (13). This style of a ball was not meant to be thrown, yet Lambeau could make that perfect throw. After college Lambeau started working at the Indian Packing Company. One day he ran into George Calhoun on a street corner. They started joking around about making a football, However they ended up coming up with a full blown idea to form their own football team. Calhoun ran an ad in his newspaper the Green Bay Press-Gazette. (Gulbrandsen 15). Lambeau asked the Indian Packing Company to help fund the team. The plant gave him $500 and the empty lot to practice on (“NFL History by the Decades”). Lambeau held a meeting on August 11, 1919 to o... ... middle of paper ... ...f a team and a legend”). He also became highly known for giving inspirational advice to players and helping the players not only on the field, in addition to off the field. One of his famous quotes. “The spirit, the will to win and the will to excel… These are the qualities that are so much more important than any of the events themselves” (Mckerley, 15). “The Green Bay Packers are a non-profit corporation held by the citizens of Green Bay to run it’s football team”,who I think are the best, arguably are the most storied franchise in the National Football League, were organized on Aug,11, 1919, in the dingy second-floor editorial rooms of the old Green Bay Press-Gazette building, located on Cherry Street in downtown Green Bay. Never imagining what might become of the semipro football team being formed that day, nobody documented who was there or how many were on hand. There had been no announcement of the meeting beforehand, and the Press-Gazette provided no details about it the day after.Whether a full complement of players attended or if it was simply a

Paul Tagliabue was appointed the NFL's commissioner in 1989 succeeding Pete Rozelle. Many believed Pete Rozelle to be the standard of measure when considering a new commissioner. Pete Rozelle was believed to have had the vision and leadership to guide the NFL to a new level. Paul took over the NFL just as it concluded a decade of two work stoppages and the embarrassing "scab football". NFL owners began leaving their traditional franchise homes in search of newer stadiums and bigger pay markets. Paul was viewed as being out of touch because of his reactive nature, management-by-crisis style, inability to form cohesion among team owners, and his faulty public relations skills (Greenfield).

From September 11, 1924 (Moritz 270), through the late 1960’s, Tom Landry accomplished a lot of things in his life, and set new trends for many years to come. Whether it be high school football star, or flying combat missions with the United States Air Force. Whether it be playing collegiate football, and really excelling, or actually moving on to a professional football career. Whether it be transforming from player to coach, and leading way for years to come and different programs; Tom Landry had experienced it all. Tom Landry was a great coach and player, whose leadership made him a hero, and a prestigious name in the football world.
...orts. He set firsts for some things and re-iterated others. He is still a very large contributing influence in the football world today. He is currently a NFL analyzer. He is very smart and knowledgeable. But he didn't get to where he is now without struggle. Power and fame almost ruined him. Yet he was able to bounce back and use his experience to learn from and shape his future and create a positive outcome. He made it positive not only for himself but for others as well. He set his goals and was determined. One thing
“Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are the preeminent QBs of their generation (Battista and Breer).” Two quarterbacks, from two completely different backgrounds, are fighting for supremacy among all the men to quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). Football in the day and age today is a landscape unlike a few centuries ago. On paper just about any coach in the NFL would start Peyton Manning, former first pick in the 1998 draft, over Tom Brady, former one hundred and ninety ninth pick in the 2000 draft, just based on where each player was selected. Looks, although appealing, doesn’t reflect the careers of two of the greatest QBs in NFL history. Manning is a former number one selection, who has done nothing but live up to and exceed expectations. Brady was selected five rounds later at one hundred and ninety nine, and has done nothing but turned doubters into believers. In the midst of the madness, which player stands forsaken as the greatest quarterback of their generation?
Frederick “Fritz” Pollard, the first African American to ever play in the Rose Bowl and the first African American to ever coach an NFL team, changed the history of football and America while enduring different racial criticism. Pollard faced many difficulties throughout his childhood and adulthood. Pollard was not like the typical “black star” of the 1890-1910 time period. Pollard was raised in a nice home, instead of the “ghetto”, and was able to acquire higher education than that of the average African-American child of his time period. Pollard was racially criticized throughout his amateur and professional life. One incident being the time Pollard got into an argument with a child on whether or not he was a football player, “There I was,
In the book entitled Out of Their League, David Meggyesy describes his life as a football player from high school through his days with the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). Born in 1941, Meggyesy was raised in a low-income household in Solon, Ohio. Like many athletes from impoverished backgrounds, he was able to use the game of football to better himself though both a full scholarship to Syracuse University and financial stability with the Cardinals. During his career, however, Meggyesy became increasingly disillusioned with the game of football and how its athletes were subject to tremendous physical and psychological turmoil from those in power—namely the coaches and the NFL team owners. He began to see the game of football from a conflict theorist point of view. This is the belief that sport is an opiate used to benefit those in power through the exploitation of athletes which enables those such as coaches and team owners to maintain their power and privilege in society. (Coakley, 1998) Meggyesy's growing disenchantment with football and adoption of a conflict theorist point of view led him to retire from the Cardinals in 1969.

“Can the receivers get far enough down the field? Rodgers in trouble… It’s gonna get their he turned 32 yesterday does he have a vintage moment in him? In the end zone and it is caught for the win! Richard Rodgers with a walk off touchdown a game ender for the packers!!!!” This was one of many great plays Aaron Rodgers had with the Green Bay Packers. For me personally as a football fan I look back at the greats Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, Ladainian Tomlinson and so on. But no football player has had a bigger impact on me than Aaron Rodgers each game he plays he looks 100 times better than the last. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers influenced many aspects of my life by showing examples of hope, courage, and skill. Aaron Rodgers shows on the field a sense
The bright stadium lights shined down on the players as they warmed up. The players looked tiny compared to their surroundings. The stadium was gradually beginning to fill, which added to the anticipation of kick off. At last, the teams ran out of their tunnels for the start of the game. Brett Favre was greeted with a thunderous chant of boos, as the fans did not like that he had chosen to play for a rival team after retiring for the second time. The boos turned to cheers as the Packers were introduced. Ironically, my Dad and I were surrounded by Vikings fans. Despite cheering for the rival team, they were very friendly and even took a picture of my Dad and me. The first quarter had begun, and the fun was just beginning.

In all of the years that the game of pro football has been played there have only been twenty-two coaches that have made it into the hall of fame which means that they have done a significant amount of work in the coaching industry and made a huge impact on the game (Positions). The strategies that they have used to be such a great coach must have been incredibly good. A lot of people wonder what the strategies to coach a football team and strategies that famous coaches have used to be a successful coach are. Two of the most well-known coaches are Vince Lombardi and John Madden; they were the best coaches to ever coach the game in people’s opinion because their play strategies were so incredibly good. They had the best run plays and pass plays for offense. They also had the best defensive formations for defense, the man coverage, zone coverage, four three coverage, and the three four coverage. They had the best plays for both shotgun and pistol formation plays. They even had the best special team type plays from fake field goals to onside kick returns. John Madden and Vince Lombardi are the best National Football League coaches to ever coach in the National Football League because of all of these great plays that they used to get so high in the coaching industry. There are probably a lot more well-known and great coaches, but they have not done as much or close as what these two brilliant coaches have done to entertain the world in the game of football. Not only did they have the best play types and strategies to use, they both also had a great variety of players on their teams. If Lombardi was not as good of a coach as people say, then he would not have a trophy named after him for the team that wins the annual super bowl each ye...
