Introduction:
Even though Beowulf the film and the text events are similar, there are also many factors that proves they are very different.
There are many differences and similarities exhibited in Beowulf’s battle with Grendel from the film and the text.
When Beowulf battled Grendel’s Mother , the Greedy Sea Witch, there were a few distinct differences between the film and the text.
Finally, there were a few differences and similarities noticed when Beowulf fights the Dragon in the film and the movie.

Finally, in the text, Beowulf actually does kill Grendel’s mother with a magic sword, however, in the film he is tricked by her beauty and her treasure’s, so he gives her a son in order to be rich.
The battle with Beowulf and Grendel’s Mother is presented extremely different in the film and the text, there are many big differences.
Body Paragraph 3:
In the end, there were only a few differences in Beowulf’s battle with The Dragon, however, there were similarities as well.
The only real difference that I noticed is that in the film, The Dragon is Beowulf’s son with the Sea Witch, however, in the text Beowulf slays the Sea Witch so The Dragon couldn’t possibly be his son from textual evidence.
The first similarity, however, is that in both forms of the story Wiglaf tries to assist Beowulf in the battle with The Dragon.
Lastly, another similarity is that in both forms of the story, or epic poem, the battle with The dragon occurs 50 winters later.
There aren’t many differences presented in the battle with Beowulf and The Dragon, besides The Dragon being Beowulf’s son in the film.
Conclusion Paragraph
Another difference in the poem and movie is the bloody battles. In the poem, Beowulf has supernatural powers when he is at battle. In the movie, Boulvine battles with human strengths and power. In the poem Beowulf fights all of his battles alone. In the movie Boulvine battles with several men. One of the famous warriors is the 13th warrior, played by Antonio Banderes. He helps Boulvine fight the Ven. In the poem Beowulf does not fight his third battle until 50 years later. In the movie Boulvine fights his third battle immediately after the second.
Even though, the values of Beowulf and Grendel are similar to the ones that I and my entire generation have grown up learning, both of the epic and movie have qualities that make me unable to come to a conclusion as to which of the works recounts the story of Beowulf and Grendel in a more exceptional way. Therefore, I give the forthcoming generations the responsibility of making that
The differences and similarities between the traditional version of the Epic Beowulf and the modern version, Beowulf and Grendel, makes passages for characters such as Grendel to be changed due to the time frame in between the film and the epic. There are several characters that stood out from the film, as they are portrayed in the epic as something completely different than in the movie. Grendel is one of the few that stood out the most.
Although Beowulf was written thousands of years ago, when compared with Grendel, it acts as an example of propaganda of a certain perspective that was used throughout the history, even today.
Another difference could be how the story of Beowulf seems like it's more of a sad story
Beowulf’s characteristics seen on screen are very different compared to Beowulf’s characteristics in the Anglo-Saxon poem. Beowulf in the film Beowulf
To begin, we can examine the physical appearances of the two heroes. From the get go, we see Beowulf as a very powerful man. We see emphasise of this through the drawings of the novel. We see how muscular he is and the overall aura. He is relaxed and in control every step of the way.
Beowulf was a great warrior, to people all over the world, not just by his men. He fought his hardest up to his final days where his hardest just wasn’t good enough. Although, each battle was fought hard, each one had it’s own story and personality. Each battle also had a connection to the other in some form or another. If we can take away any knowledge from this story, we could say that these battles are similar in the fact that it will always be good versus evil and sadly good doesn’t always
Fighting monsters is one of the things that both the poem and the movie have in common. “Heard how Grendel filled the nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out…,” in the poem it states that Grendel was the only monster Beowulf was fighting against and incompatibly in the movie there were more creatures whom they wanted to defeat. Another similarity is that in both they kill the mothers, Beowulf kills Grendel’s mother in Beowulf and in The 13th Warrior Buliwf kills the Wendol Warlord. On the other hand in The 13th Warrior they were building/ setting a wall that could sort of protect them from the monsters and could use it as shields, Beowulf didn’t do that.
In Both Grendel and Beowulf, there is conflict. The conflict is betwixt the themes of light and dark, Paganism vs. Christianity, and Man vs. Beast. Grendel, the main character in Grendel and the secondary character in Beowulf, faces external battles but the most important battle take place internally. John Gardener recognized the basis for Grendel’s predicament which is “his [Grendel] stubborn cling to skepticism and cold, hard reason. . .” (Grendel’s Geis). Though there are many different themes present in both stories, there is one theme that remains consistent throughout out both. This theme is the lack of acceptance. Grendel’s in-acceptance is rooted in his lack of understanding of the world and its functions. As a result of the many things that have taken place in Grendel’s life, he is perceived as evil yet, not because he wants to be. He is misunderstood and not accepted. Much of Grendel’s evil wrongdoing comes as a result of lack of acceptance, lack of communication, and his ignorance.
Beowulf looked over on the wall next to them and saw a magnificent sword hanging on the wall adorned with beautiful carvings, it was blessed with magic. No normal man could ever have lifted that sword, but Beowulf was no normal being. He waited for the right moment to go and retrieve the sword, and when he found the perfect opportunity and he ran straight towards the wall. He pulled the sword down with great force and began running towards Grendel’s mother. Beowulf took in a deep breath as he leaned back and heaved the sword forward. Beowulf had sliced straight through Grendel’s mother’s scaly neck, blood began to pour everywhere and he heard her bones cracking as the sword passed through her.
At this point in the epic, Beowulf is still the same as he was in the beginning. He's very proud after killing both a demon and his mother. He had no changing point. This is one of the biggest differences seen in the movies. And may be the reason why the movie is more appealing to the modern audience.
Battle between Grendel’s mother and Beowulf shows the epic hero defeating the ultimate evil. In the book Beowulf kills Grendel’s Mother by stabbing her with a sword. In the movie Beowulf doesn’t kill Grendel’s mother, she lives on so does her curse. The battle took place underwater which is Grendel’s mother home. Beowulf went to her underwater home at night with Hrothgar in the movie. In the book Beowulf travelled alone, also, in the movie Beowulf lied to Hrothgar. Beowulf Lied about killing Grendel’s mother and Hrothgar knew he had lied because the curse was lifted but would soon return again.
The book Beowulf and its film adaptation were very similar. There were, however, several key differences that set them apart from each other. Overall, the book did a better job at portraying the tale of Beowulf because it includes more details and better emphasizes the struggles of Beowulf’s battles. For the most part, all the characters were the same, as well as their personalities. The film did include two characters the book did not mention, and these characters were quite important to the story. Another conflict between the two is that the argument between Unferth and Beowulf in Harot was not as intense in the movie as it was in the book. In the book, Unferth challenges Beowulf's reputation and inflicts a sense of distrust in Beowulf
The cause of Grendel wanted to attack the town was because he didn’t like them having a good time laughing and singing. The effect was Beowulf came to help the town’s king because he had helped Beowulf’s dad long ago. During the textbook fight, Beowulf broke Grendel’s arm off with his bare hands. In the movie, Beowulf was much cleverer and captured Grendel so he could break his arm off with the door. When Grendel arrived to attack in the movie, Beowulf was naked, but in the textbook Beowulf wore a mail shirt at all time to keep him protected. In the movie, Beowulf had a bad dream of an evil woman spirit before Grendel’s appearance.
