First, the “loss” in anime gives to the audience a message. One of good example Anime of the loss story is “Grave of the Fireflies”. There are a lot of the loss stuff because it is a post-war story. Most story of war has always the loss thing because there are fights, survives, and changes of the life. There is no difference between winners or losers. The war causes the damage to both sides. Therefore, mostly the post-war story has many source of the loss in their whole life. The anime movie “Grave of the Fireflies” also has many sources of the loss of main characters. In this anime, the main character, Seita, loses his house, his mother, his school, his father, and his sister, Setsuko. It describes clearly what Seita loses and how his life becomes unhappy. Seita always yearns for his father and army, for evidence, he usually knows the army songs and dreams his father’s figure in the past day. He is waiting for his father to save him and his sister. In addition, Seita also has a pride because of his father. That makes him getting out of his aunt’s family, deciding to live in the air-raid shelter with his sister, and spending all of his whole money. I wondered for Seita why he did not think about looking for work and earning money, but I realize that he has belief that his father will come to them and pride as a son of the marine commander. After he hears the Japan lost the war, he finally lost his entire mind, and his situation is getting worse includes the death of Setsuko. In the conclusion, as the beginning scene, he lost his life with nothing except Setsuko’s candy can. This anime is not just for sadness of post-war life in Japan. Even more, there was no national flag on the combat plane, which means this anime is not just for post-war life.
