What is Good Writing?
Writing can take place as many different forms and formats, but there are major and minor differences in each piece of writing. The difference between a well-written paper and a poor one is based on several key elements: ideas that are important, organization and word choice, and sentence fluency and conventions. It is essential to ensure that each listed element is executed with utmost efficiency. Combining these elements together and combining them correctly is the key to creating a remarkable piece of writing.
People write either to express ideas, persuade others, or to inform them on something. Probably the most important aspect of writing is to write about an idea that makes readers want to read about it. For example, if an author is writing a five page essay on what the best type of cereal is, that may not appeal to many readers. Excess content on something mundane and unimportant to life will not lead to getting a good message across. Organization and proper word choice will assist in spreading your message across readers. If your ideas are spontaneous and out of order, readers will have a hard time deciphering the message you are trying to send. Keep information in order and provide an introduction that prefaces what the essay will be about. Along with that, using proper word choice is important as well. Based on your audience, different choices of words can have different impacts. For example, if you are writing to a group of elementary grade kids, using words that are easier to understand will be best.
