What is Good Writing?
Writing can take place as many different forms and formats, but there are major and minor differences in each piece of writing. The difference between a well-written paper and a poor one is based on several key elements: ideas that are important, organization and word choice, and sentence fluency and conventions. It is essential to ensure that each listed element is executed with utmost efficiency. Combining these elements together and combining them correctly is the key to creating a remarkable piece of writing.
People write either to express ideas, persuade others, or to inform them on something. Probably the most important aspect of writing is to write about an idea that makes readers want to read about it. For example, if an author is writing a five page essay on what the best type of cereal is, that may not appeal to many readers. Excess content on something mundane and unimportant to life will not lead to getting a good message across. However, if you write five pages on how to develop a successful career, that will appeal to many as it catches interest because it is important to people. If we compare the two,

people would rather read five pages of developing a successful career rather than the best type of cereal because it is interesting and important to their daily lives. When writing, spend time thinking how much of an impact your topic will make on your audience. An essay that is an unorganized mess will put strain on the reader and create disinterest.
Organization and proper word choice will assist in spreading your message across readers. If your ideas are spontaneous and out of order, readers will have a hard time deciphering the message you are trying to send. Keep information in order and provide an introduction that prefaces what the essay will be about. Along with that, using proper word choice is important as well. Based on your audience, different choices of words can have different impacts. For example, if you are writing to a group of elementary grade kids, using words that are easier to understand will be best. If you write to your professor, using a variety of unique words will give off an impressive impression. Know your audience and calculate what words to use based on
that. Last but not least, sentence fluency can control the flow of your paper. Using one sentence format throughout your writing can make it dull. Consider changing your sentence structure. You can combine sentences together to form a compound sentence in many different ways. All of which will add flavor to your essay. Do not forget to double check on your grammar and conventions. Especially if writing to a professional audience who may have the intelligence to subconsciously notice mistakes in this area. Proper grammar will give readers better reason to trust that you are a justified writer. Combining all of these elements together and your paper will appear neat and professional as it is intended to be.
Many times, my writing consists of a solid introduction with a good idea, but it wanes as it nears the ending and the conclusion is not effective so as to remain consistent with the proper sequence of the sentence (2-3-1). The reader of my work must distinguish the most important points of the work, understanding the general theme, while remaining captivated by a consistently interesting paper. If a primary point exists, it needs to be expanded, emphasized, or supported. The work needs to remain interesting and captivating throughout. For the reader to infer my opinion on the subject matter, I must show approval or disapproval of it in some way.
As I look back into my high school years, I thought I wrote papers well. But then coming into a college environment, my papers were mediocre. By overlooking at my past papers, I found that they were unorganized, sloppy and had bad use of diction. From now on, I will use the tools I learned in English 1100-40 as a foundation for the future papers I intend on writing in college. Following the criteria of organizing ideas so that they flow, impacting the reader with diction and also by being creative, will help become an ideal writer. Following the criteria of staying motivated in short and long term goals, taking responsibility for actions and finally the ability to study well will help me develop into a supreme student.
When writing a paper the process can vary from a few hours to several days. English teachers have several different ways they teach their students how to write as well as the method to use. Knowing the perfect way to prepare to write for a paper takes several years to master. Once you know what method works best for you, writing becomes less stressful. Preparing for the rhetorical analysis paper, I used all the best methods to have a smooth transaction from the begging till the end.
The strengths in my writing are my organizational skills, grammatical construct, and my work ethic. Organizing an essay is a very natural process for me. I always follow the basic guidelines for the structure of an essay, which state that one must have an introduction, thesis statement, body, conclusion, and a works cited when needed. The “Are Helicopter Parents Entering the No Fly Zone?” essay, “Animal Cloning—How Unethical Is It?” essay, and the “The Clean Water Act—Is it Successfully Reducing Water Pollution?” essay all have a proper introduction, an informative thesis statement, a body, great conclusions, and works cited pages. Formatting the essays is an integral aspect of organizational skills. Each new paragraph is indented, the font is twelve-point Times New Roman, the sentences are double spaced, and the headers are correct.
Literature has long been an important part of human life. We express our feelings with ink and paper; we spill out our souls on dried wood pulp. Writing has been a form of release and enjoyment since the beginning of written language. You can tell a story, make yourself a hero. You can live out all your fantasies!

Strategies and techniques that a person uses are those that allow you to write great papers. There are no rules on how an essay should be written; the only expectations are to get your main point across to your audience. Whether you are writing a persuasive essay, an informal essay, literary essay, argumentative essay, or a compare and contrast essay you name it there is always a purpose. One individual can follow a linear process and can edit it and precede all over with the following steps. Your fellow class mate might have a different way to write or even have similarities within. Writing takes time, patience, and overall practice. Just like how Hairston relates writing to the best athletes. Athletes are not born the best but through practice, time, criticism, and reinforcement it can lead them to become the
Why do authors choose to write books and essays? In Why I Write, George Orwell claims that he writes because “he has the desire to push the world in a certain direction, to alter other people’s idea of the kind of society that they should strive for”. Another literary work, Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, describes how instant decision-making is as effective and complex as a cautiously thought-out decision. The author explains why people should be striving to make quick but advantageous decisions. Although the writer does not “push” for a change in society, he makes the deliberate choice to alter the way people think. He wants people to make spontaneous, but educated and controlled judgments. With this in mind, the audience can interpret his motives
As a second language learner I have never expected myself to be a perfect writer throughout the semester. Even If English was my first language still, I would not be a perfect writer. It is not about first or second language, it is about how well I understand the learning objectives. Then organizing and writing with my own ideas and putting them in my paper. I am going to be honest, I am not good at English subject and English subject is my strongest weakness than the other subjects. In this paper I will discuss and analyze my own writing, reflecting on the ways that my writing has improved throughout the semester.
Recently, I have been writing quite a few essays and papers throughout my college experience. This entails, but not limited to, English, History, and Economics. My style of writing and methods have generally remained the same throughout the process. In this assignment, I will be discussing how I prepare to start a paper, what my thoughts are through the process, and my strengths and weaknesses of what my final drafts look like.
As a writer, my greatest strength is to layout the essay as introduction, body and conclusion and especially thesis. In EAP, I was taught carefully in this regard, the construction of introduction, a thesis is the main factor because it is the main point of the essay. However, arranging ideas and put them into sentences are not my strong. For example, in the essay, there were a lot of ideas and arguments that I collected and I put them randomly in paragraph...
