Godfather Death tells a tale of a man who wishes to find a godfather to his 13th child. The fact that this is his 13th child foreshadows that this child will be very unlucky because it is a common tale since the last supper only had 13 members it was classified as an unlucky number. The father of the boy goes to the street to find a godfather for his child. The first person he meets is God but the dad said that he was unfair to the rich and the poor. The second person the man meets is the devil but he thinks that the devil is not a good fit because he is a trickster. The third and final person the father meets is death himself because he thinks that death is fair because he does not discriminate between the rich and the poor and picks death
Tom Walker’s devil is a dark-skinned man with red eyes, red sash, and an axe. Tom was a malicious, greedy person who dealt with the devil in order to gain some wealth. He and his wife would fight constantly day after day. Tom was not a wealthy person
The story of “Killings” by Andre Dubus looked into the themes of crime, revenge and morality. The crime committed in the story depicted the father’s love for his son and the desire to avenge his son’s death. However, his own crime led to his own destruction as he was faced with questions of morality. The character found himself in a difficult position after taking his revenge. He failed to anticipate the guilt associated with the crime he committed. Feelings of anger and righteousness are illustrated by the character throughout the story.

The movie, “Romeo Must Die”, is an action packed drama that adapts William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” into a more modern perspective with a twist that deviates from the original plot. Han Sing, played by the actor Jet Li, resembles Romeo, where as Trish O’Day, played by the actress Aaliyah, resembles Juliet. Fate causes them to meet when Trish jumps into the taxi Han hi-jacks. As Han is in search of the person that killed his brother, he learns that Trish may have a connection and begins to pursue her.
Harte’s narrative style, word choice, and symbolic characters forms a story about human nature and how it can best be observed when survival is the primary goal. When faced with death, Uncle Billy chooses to save himself at the expense of the group. The others, the supposed wrongdoers of Poker Flat, choose to selflessly turn to one another. Tom Simson and Uncle Billy, the two characters most likely to have survived represent the two opposing paths one can take in life. Death will not show bias to those who are more righteous; although in life, goodness of the heart will prevail.

Does family matter? Yes- family always matters. It is necessary to have some sort of family structure in order to have a stable foundation. This need for stability and structure is how the family survives and the children find safety. In the movies The Godfather and Scarface we will discover how the two differ when it comes to family and family business. These two patriarchs have different views on family and how the family is involved in the business. In this discovery one struggles to gain and maintain power- but looses everything in the process. While the other maintains the family through peace negotiations and understanding business and revenge can not always go hand and hand in order for the family to survive.
After acknowledging how Alighieri treats all three sinners in various ways, it can be concluded that through his use of literary devices, Alighieri conveys either hostility or compassion towards the sinners. Alighieri either attacks political rivals, showing great hostility, or he raises those who he admires upon a pedestal, showing great compassion and warmth. Overall it is Alighieri’s creative writing through the use of literary devices that demonstrate a man’s willpower to overcome his most tried enemies in Hell, as well as parting with his greatest heroes.
The Godfather is the “dark-side of the American dream story” (Turan, pp2). The film follows the practices of a fictional Italian mafia family, the Corleone’s. Though most Americans do not condone the practices of the Italian mafia, they cannot deny that Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather is a cinematic masterpiece. This film gave insight to a mysterious way of life that the average person does not have knowledge of. As the audience is educated about the mafia they also are introduced to many stereotypes.
In the book My Brother Sam is Dead by Collier and Collier, Tim the youngest brother matures through the story. After reading Mike Adams article The Dead Grandmother/Exam Syndrome I was very amused by Adams sense of sarcasm while making the article perfectly humorous. The thesis of Adams article is “A student’s grandmother is far more likely to die suddenly just before the student takes an exam,
The Godfather is most notably one of the most prolific films of its time. This "gangster" film displayed many transformations of permeating color to give the viewer observable cues in its mise en scene that drew one right into the movie. The dramatic acting set the tone of the film with a score that lifted the viewer right out of their seat in many scenes. The directing and cinematography made The Godfather ahead of its time. The nostalgic feel of family importance and the danger of revenge lets us into the life of the Mafia. Even though no other techniques would have given the viewer a feeling of inside the mob like the mise en scene of the power the godfather held, the characters are reinforced literally and figuratively because the story views the Mafia from the inside out, and the cinematography of the film gives it a dangerous and nostalgic feel.

After reading this short story a few times it became clear to me of the symbolism present. All the main characters are all male with the exception of the beautiful princess on whom he fell deeply in love with. The story even gives all the main characters a human form be it God, the Devil or Death. We do not see them in this story as supernatural beings but rather as just another person on whom the poor old man just happens to come across as he ran into the highway. No mention is made of the poor old man's wife or of any of his twelve other children in this story, and even thou the story begin with the old man, he soon drops out of the picture and the main characters become the son and his godfather Death'. From the time the son arrives at adulthood the story develops into a classical conflict between a father fig...
Another popular superstition or tradition that can be found in today's culture is the number three. The number appears several times in the story and James's small attention to detail adds to the mystery. Sayings like “all things thrive at thrice . . . and encouragement . . . to try the third time . . . will say that the third's a charm” or “a coroner never comes once but thrice”(Opie,Tatem 403). Gawdy is executed and returns for his persecutors, Francis's, only son. Francis is found dead on the third anniversary of his sons disappearance, having just completed the mezzotint, with all three dead and the climax coming to an end James ensures that a residual effect from the fear continues with the narrator stating that the picture still hangs in Ashliean Museum.
