Never before has climate change been such a critical factor in our lives. Global warming due to the high emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) is disrupting the equilibrium of our ecosystem causing numerous and diverse negative impacts. It is imperative that we alleviate such matters, and actions must be made now in order protect our future. This delegate believes that the increasing levels of greenhouse gases can be reduced by the continuation of the usage and development of the emerging renewable/alternative energy sources.

The United Kingdom’s main concern is that because of the increase of GHG emission it will have drastic impact to the whole nation. One of the major problems is that the UK is not fully prepared to face extreme natural disasters such as floods, droughts, storms, and heat waves. Due to the mass amount of emission through out the world, UK has suffered from 2,000 deaths in 2003 due to heat waves. These vulnerabilities will cause great devastation in the UK mainly targeting the elderly and impoverished. To protect the citizens of the United Kingdom and also the people of the world, the UK requests all countries to focus on climate change and adaptations plans in order to be well equipped for the attacks of natural disasters.

Acknowledging the fact that climate change is happening, the United Kingdom has been advocating the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol, and much more. Through UN conferences the UK has made various efforts in order to meet the goals of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2020 and 80% by 2050. United Kingdom would like to focus on the following topics during the MUNCCC:

1) Further research and development of renewable/alternative energy.

2) Raising awareness of the criticality of climate change through the mass media.

3) Creating more policies and organizations to support both the developed and developing countries to be able to generate clean energy for self-sustainability.

4) Modifications of the ratification of the limits to carbon emission allowed in each country to justify the discrepancies in emission.
