National Security & Threat Assessment Process
National security in the United States is extremely important and requires extensive risk management measures including strategic, exercise, operational and capability-based planning, research, development, and making resource decisions in order to address real-world events, maintain safety, security and resilience (Department of Homeland Security [DHS], 2011). The national security and threat assessment process consists of identifying the risk and establishing an objective, analyzing the relative risks and environment, exploring alternatives and devising a plan of action for risk management, decision making and continued monitoring and surveillance (DHS, 2011). Identifying

Climate change needs to be more adamantly addressed through stronger efforts, especially when considering the probable repercussions it can have on national security, particularly on our political, military, social, infrastructure and information systems (PMESII); with many security threats attributed to climate change, including increasing terrorist propaganda and activity (CNA Military Advisory Board, 2014). Constant droughts or increased flooding can further exasperate poverty and uninhabitable living conditions for vulnerable populations, which are the prime conditions for exploitation by terrorists groups. For example, it has been highly publicized that terrorist groups have taken over several towns in Syria; shutting off incoming aid and forcing residents to be at their mercy for food and shelter, a tactic that has led to men and boys joining their ranks out inherent obligations to their families (Welch, 2015). Although this is perceived by many as an ongoing religious and political conflict, it is important to note that climate change has also been attributed as a precursor to this ongoing conflict, primarily through long droughts experienced in Syria, Iraq, and Turkey, which led to water shortages and loss of livestock; the weakening of the economy, and increased migration; thus causing …show more content…
History demonstrates that many powerful empires arouse from controlling resources. Climate change further exasperates that power struggle and will continue to do so in the future if we do not employ stronger efforts to lesson our contribution to future climate change and become more adaptable in the
The general topic for this literature review will be an examination of the Department of Defense and the National Guard in terms of Homeland Security. The areas of Homeland Defense and Civil Support will be primary subsections of Homeland Security which will be reviewed. For purposes of defining a time period none of the literature reviewed will be prior to September 11, 2001. The reasoning for this being to examine Homeland Defense using literature pertaining to 9/11 and the Boston Marathon Bombing, and Civil Support using literature pertaining to Hurricane Katrina.
The topic of climate change and global warming has always been one of great debate and controversy; however, it’s clear to see that Canadians should take precautions to avoid the problems their country faces. The Canadian government should do everyth...

How would you like to live in a home that is beginning to fall apart, but only to go on about your day and continue to neglect it until it all comes crashing down? Humans and animals share this beautiful planet that we call home. But this beautiful home of ours is being regularly and increasingly torn apart by our own ignorant actions. These actions of ours have begun to unravel the very world in which we live, causing a self-inflicted crisis known as Global Climate Change. Global Climate Change is a severe dilemma, and it is continuously becoming more evident to the world’s population that climate change is being caused by changes in the reflectivity of earth’s atmosphere and surface, the ever changing variations of energy from the sun reaching the earth, and the daunting increase in greenhouse gasses.
When looking at the process of undertaking a homeland assessment for an organization each stage, it just as critical as the others and each interlock with the other to produce a stable plan of actions for the organization (Masses, O”Neil, & Rollins, 2007). The stage of the leadership evaluating their needs for a homeland security plan by the utilization of the organizational overview to determine is just as relevant to looking at their outside relationships to vendors, buyers, and suppliers for the organization that takes place in the eight steps for successful assessment implementation and manual use (Fisher, 2004). We see in these eight actions that they are also just as essential elements that must be evaluated and hold the same amount of weight in the assessment process. The leadership assessment score, is from the Baldrige Categories, shows us that it results are just as vital as that of the customer and market focus as well as the business results that are produced from the
Scientists and environmentalists started talking about global warming and the dangers of climate change long time ago but it is now when the consequences of these effects began to manifest themselves in a clearer and even worrisome manner. The temperatures on Earth are rising, the sea level is rising, the amounts of CO2 and ozone in the atmosphere are increasing, the amount and timing of precipitation is changing. All of these issues show tendency to worsen in the future, though it is hard to predict exactly by how much or at what rate they will unfold. One thing is clear – climate change has an impact on almost every area of our life and it deserves our attention and timely response.
While specific intelligence of a looming attack would be ideal, when it comes to calculating a vulnerability assessment, we are more likely to be forced to assume risks and weigh those risks amongst many factors. Every student should understand the procedures involved in determining an overall likelihood score of a terrorist attack utilizing the Threat and Vulnerability Assessment. This paper will cover the assets with the highest likelihood scores, as well as those with the lowest scores. Additionally, it will cover the methods in which these scores were obtained and whether I agree with the final outcome, including any biases I may have observed.
For these reasons, global warming stands as one of the most daunting policy issues facing our world today. This is compounded by the debate over the very existence of climate change. While countless sources of empirical evidence testify to the very real presence of climate change the world over, considerable denial of the phenomenon still exists. The argument has been made that evidence about climate change is a gross overstatement, or in some cases, a complete fabrication. Despite the evidence to the contrary, many interest groups with considerable political clout have successfully perpetuated the argument that documented changes in the environment are a product of natural cyclical changes in climate, and are not associated with human activities. However, even the acceptance of this particular brand of reality is no grounds for the disregard of environmental consciousness. Even if one accepts the premise that recent climate change is not resultant of human activity, the rationale behind environmental conservation remains ...
There is a lot of complexity in understanding risk management and its correlation to homeland security. Risk management is a way to approach the fact that securing the homeland is not certain and there are unknown variables in every aspect of life; risk management is a way to narrow down the focus based on quantifiable information determining probability against capability. Risk management plays and integral role in homeland security. Risk management is employed using a formula described in the NIPP for establishing a narrow scope to make the best decision about protecting infrastructure. The risk management formula lays down the foundation to make the most reasonable determination based on the potential consequences, vulnerability, and

Background and Audience Relevance: There are always conversations about our planet. We see our earths glaciers melting, weather temperature rising, and pollution affecting our resources. But for some reasons we tend to look away. We should be more aware of this potential event and I’m here to inform everyone about what actually is global warming and the effects of it.
As we could see in the reading resources there are many useful resources for counselors. It is important to remember that no one tool can be effective for all situations. Risk/threat assessment has to be done carefully to respond appropriately to every unique situation. The guide that we read had a lot of good information in it, but again it is only a guide there is no book with all the right answers. This will be the counselor’s judgment call ultimately and training in this area is definitely needed.
Climate change has been an extremely controversial topic in recent history and continues to create much debate today. Many questions concerning climate change’s origins and its potential affect on the globe are not fully understood and remain unanswered. What is climate change? Is climate change happening? Is it a natural cycle of the world or are there other catalysts involved such as human activity? What proof is there? What data correlations show climate change is accelerated by humans? How serious is climate change and how will it affect the future of our globe? What are we doing to address climate change? Should we really be concerned about climate change? Questions such as these have made climate change a very serious issue in today’s world and created the ideology of climatism. The issue of climate change has affected many different aspects of our lives and the world we live in. Policymaking, human activism, technologies, emission control, global warming, alternative energy sources and many other things have been greatly affected by the mania of climate change. This research report will present climate change in a light of common sense and rationality that will take a grounded discussion of the science behind climate change, global warming, human activity, and how the ideology of climatism has corrupted and driven the actions to combat climate change.
NSIT 800-30, Risk Management Guide for Information Technology Systems. This document describes a forma approach to risk assessment that includes threat and vulnerability identification, control analysis, impact analysis, and a matrix depiction of risk determination and control recommendations. When security professionals apply a qualitative or quantitative risk assessment, an organization management can begin the process of deciding what steps, if any, need to be implemented to manage the risk identified in the risk assessment. There are four general approaches to risk assessments (Gregory, 2010):
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
