Abstract: Theory of global warming explaining the phenomena of accelerating change in the number and size of weather-related disturbances. This is a synthesis of three books: Al Gore's an inconvenient truth, Stuart Kauffman's At Home in the Universe, and Dr. James Lovelock's Gaia: A new look at life on Earth, presenting a theory predicting the general parameters of global warming over the coming years. 1. Introduction. This paper is intended as a starting point for creating a framework within which to discuss and analyze what appears to be a substantial change in worldwide climate. It is essentially a synthesis of three books: (1.) an inconvenient truth, the crisis of global warming, written by Al Gore (2007), (2.) At Home in the Universe, The Search for the Laws of Self-Organization and Complexity, by Stuart Kauffman (1995), and, (3) Gaia: A new look at life on Earth, by Dr. James Lovelock (1979) (see, also, Wikipedia.org, “Gaia Theory”). Kauffman’s book, At Home in the Universe (herein “Universe”), is a wide-ranging collection of connected thoughts that present and support a unifying theory for all processes of self-organization. Gore’s book, an inconvenient truth (herein “Inconvenient Truth”), is primarily referenced for the proposition that the totality of human activity (or more broadly, life’s activities) here on Earth, if left unchecked, has and will result in more and greater weather dislocations and disturbances arising from a general warming of the biosphere, and, that the trend to date displays an acceleration forming a rising an asymptotic curve (the first half of a sigmoidal curve). Lovelock’s Book, Gaia: A new look at life on Earth (herein “Gaia”) is presented as an extension of the theory pr... ... middle of paper ... ...xes and tax breaks, government programs, trade sanctions, etc.) over the course of human existence represents an “error catastrophe”, such that the collective effect over time has been to steer human activity away from proper compromise and optimization, and toward over-population, and misapplication of resources, such that we are now experiencing the total and collective historical and current effect of those collective errors upon the biosphere. Seen in this light, our efforts and attempts to begin working toward conservation and population control, and away from pollution and misapplication of resources, is yet another example of the “system” (Gaia) attempting to evolve toward a more fit social structure, and to dampen the disturbances that are taking the system away from its state space attractor (its tendency toward homeostasis in the current configuration).
In his piece on climate change, Richard Lindzen addresses his stance on the heated debate of global warming. He claims that there is, in fact, no ongoing catastrophic temperature increase. Lindzen, a Professor of Meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a recipient of the Jule Charney award from the American Meteorological Society (Richard Lindzen), believes that the earth goes through natural phases of warming and cooling. In this piece, he examines why he believes people have a false conception of Earth’s climate shifts.
An Inconvenient Truth is a documentary film in which basis are put long-term researches of changes of climate, level of carbonic gas in the atmosphere, and conditions of polar ices. In this film, El Gore, a presidential candidate of 2000 and former vice president of the United States, explains the scientific and political view of global warming and its serious consequences that we already observe on Earth, and other more tragic consequences that are still to come in the near future if we do not reduce emissions of exhaust gas in the atmosphere. Nothing especially new about the global warning is presented in the film, but what made this film effective is, firs of all, the fact that El Gore, a public and well known figure in the United States, is the main protagonist of the film. Another effective point in the film is that El Gore put all the scientific work together and showed that the problem is real, it is not a myth, and it should not be ignored any longer.
According to the World Bank’s report, climatologists predict greenhouse gases will cause temperatures to rise 7.2 degrees before the next century (par. 8). While the rise in temperature might seem trivial, Scranton elaborates on the detrimental effects this change would cause by quoting James Clapper. Mr. Clapper, the director of national intelligence, argues that extreme weather disasters will “increasingly disrupt food and energy markets, exacerbating state weakness, forcing human migrations, and triggering riots, civil disobedience, and vandalism” (par. 7). Dr. Scranton mentions these sources in order to convince the audience that an increase of only a few degrees can have a devastating impact that will inevitably leave the planet radically different during this epoch; the current epoch we live in, named the Anthropocene, is a term invented by geologist and scientists for the epoch that is “characterized by the arrival of the human species as a geological force” (par. 10). The name of the epoch inspired Scranton to title the article “Learning How to Die in the Anthropocene” since it reaffirms his claim that we must accept that the future will not be the same as the present. Furthermore, Scranton includes a book in his article written by geophysicist David Archer incase readers remain skeptical of the scientific evidence with
Gore’s logical appeals emphasize the danger and significance of global warming in a cogent, engaging multimedia platform. Rather than monotonously expounding upon detail after detail, he uses interactive visual aids to clarify his claims. As Stefan Lovgren, in “Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth’ Movie: Fact or Hype?,” abbreviates, “the documentary handles the science well.” Gore is confident in the delivery of his information; he talks to his audience with ease and precision. He states, “[t]he relationships are actually very complicated, but there is one relationship that is far more powerful than all the others and it is this: When there is more carbon dioxide...
The award-winning documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, directed by Davis Guggenheim in 2006, sets out to make the world think differently about global warming. Al Gore is a good man with bad intentions to tell the world what they are doing wrong. Twisting and manipulating his web of lies to lead society to believe that they are causing the earths fatality. Gore manipulates the persuasive device to distort the viewers thoughts towards the effects that global warning threats have on earth. Ethos, pathos and logos are used to captivate and make the film more intriguing to ensure the viewers take on the information that Gore wants them to think about. He only ever feeds the audience what he wants them to know, all for the sake of making his “story” seem like a hard-hitting exposé.
In its place we are entering a period of consequences." According to the facts that were mentioned by Al Gore in the film, I believe we are already living in the period of consequences. He said “carbon dioxide have never gone above 300 PPM,” but according to NOAA most recent global monthly mean of CO2 in September 2015 was 397.08 PPM. Due to such climate change, most recently the world has experienced most severe natural disasters, even in places where normally such disasters are not expected and abnormal. Also, in the last quarter century 30 new diseases were emerged even deadly like Ebola. “We don 't have that luxury anymore. We didn 't ask for it, but here it is” (Al Gore). We don’t neither do animals. A scientific study shows that polar bears are drowning in the Arctic Ocean and that has never happened before. Due to swimming long distances, up to 60 miles, and without finding the ice that they depend on for resting, they

Alleged Global Warming has been a hot topic and been widely reported in the American media since the 1970s. In March 2014, TED, a nonprofit committed to expanding ideas with short talks, gave a powerful presentation of the alleged current consequences of Global Warming in Gavin Schmidt’s (2014) talk: The emergent patterns of climate change. His claims are stark and he implores his audience to take the grave predictions of Global Warming seriously and not just write it off as insignificant. While Google Trends (2014) shows (graph 1) that search terms for global warming in the United States (red) have decreased while worldwide (blue) interest (image 1) fluctuates with India showing the most curiosity. Yet, not everyone agrees that Global Warming is real just as not everyone agrees that cigarette smoking is hazardous to your health when scientific studies show otherwise. By defining Global Warming, giving the major arguments on both sides of the topic, and offering an overview of scientific studies, this paper will help one think critically and thoughtfully about Global Warming.
How would you like to live in a home that is beginning to fall apart, but only to go on about your day and continue to neglect it until it all comes crashing down? Humans and animals share this beautiful planet that we call home. But this beautiful home of ours is being regularly and increasingly torn apart by our own ignorant actions. These actions of ours have begun to unravel the very world in which we live, causing a self-inflicted crisis known as Global Climate Change. Global Climate Change is a severe dilemma, and it is continuously becoming more evident to the world’s population that climate change is being caused by changes in the reflectivity of earth’s atmosphere and surface, the ever changing variations of energy from the sun reaching the earth, and the daunting increase in greenhouse gasses.

Over the years, there has been concern over the fats shifting weather pattern occasioned by the global warming. Extreme and erratic weather conditions have been experienced in almost every part of the world. This essay will review the literature that is available on the definition of Global warming, the causes of global warming, effects of global warming on the community and nations, what the government is doing to stop global warming, as well as what Non-Governmental Organizations or Non-State Organizations are doing to stop global warming and finally what should be done to stop global warming.
However, this addition leads to a negative effect of overgrazing, which is borne by the society at large. The individual herder keeps increasing his herd for his own gain. Hardin provides a criticism of this individual rational behaviour as the net negative effect is borne all, which in this case was overgrazing. He gives another example of national parks, where they get eroded due to the pressure of too many visitors. Hence, for him, the main population related problem for mankind is the ‘commons’. The necessity of the commons needs to be recognized and its breeding needs to be abandoned. The commons have already been abandoned in food gathering, enclosing farm land, restricting pastures, hunting areas and fishing areas. It also needs to be abandoned in cases of waste disposal. According to Hardin, the only solution to this problem is that the mutual coercion is mutually agreed upon. The social arrangements are made in ways that they are mutually coercive, that is, majority of the people are affected by them and are therefore, learn to accept and live with them. For example, taxes are imposed, due to which majority of people are affected yet they pay taxes to “escape the horror of the
The movie entitled “An Inconvenient Truth” is based on a cosmopolitan problem about global warming. Mr. Al Gore uses a lot of catastrophic videos to remind us the harm and damage of global warming. At the end of the movie, he illustrates some misconceptions and appeals to everyone to pay more attention to the current environment phenomenon. He thinks everyone has responsibility to protect our planet.
We have managed to overcome deplorable living conditions and deadly diseases, and life generally is more comfortable, richer and more meaningful. Nevertheless, some insist those incredible past achievements have caused a dramatic change in the Earth's climate, and inadvertently ushered in the destruction of man. Some scientists and politicians, along with environmentalists and climate change activists believe we have made matters so alarming that we must intervene to avoid our own extinction. They suggest we harness the forces of nature by artificially managing the Earth's climate to repair the damage we have allegedly created. Instead, many in the scientific community and political realm see changes in climate as the Earth's normal cycle (Parkinson 3) and that it should not be interfered
One of the most substantial problems in the world today is global warming. This gradual warming of the earth is in occurrence at an extremely slow rate but it is happening. Many scientists believe that as human’s work and release greenhouse gases into the earth’s atmosphere, it can become dangerous for the long lasting life of humans and our environment. “Unless we take immediate action, the impacts of global warming will continue to intensify, grow ever more costly and damaging, and increasingly affect the entire planet - including you, your community, and your family” (“Global Warming Impacts”). Everyone should be knowledgeable about global warming and the dangers that it brings to our planet. This essay will examine
