History is difficult to define since the nature of history is often discussed, debated, and debunked, however the emphasis of the definition history is only confusing, because so many historians themselves question the nature of history as a practice. History holds so many truths; history is one part objective truth, another part of historical philosophy guiding populations into a direction of understanding, and yet another part exists to explain the complexities of human nature; the versatility and potential of history is the reason that so many study history. While understanding the importance of the academia of research and properly analyzing sources, my views have changed in regards to how history should be told; I now believe more in a method called the “new global history” . The new global history is a historic method that focuses more on modern social involvement, as both history and theories based upon the past. Researching the past can help one determine the future or at least the intensity of potential future events . Through my new focus of globalizing history, this practice will play a major role in limiting a re-description of overall context to the past, while embracing an overall trust with both the historic and non-historic public. The embrace of the new global history will support the perception of modern history and also support society’s view of the past in relationship to their lives today, supporting Purvis’ claim that “my footing in the present inevitably influences my interpretation of the past”.
