The topic of Global Communication is extremely important to the business world in the 21st Century. To illustrate the success and process of operating a business Internationally, I chose to research an established company that does just that. Diageo PLC is a British multinational alcoholic beverage company with headquarters located in London, U.K. and is the world’s largest producer of spirits, beer and wine. The name Diageo was created by the brand consultancy Wolff Olin’s (New York) in 1997 and translates to their slogan “Every day, everywhere people enjoy our products” (www.diageo.com).
Diageo employs over 36,000 people worldwide helping to grow business, nurture brands and encourage diversity. “We want our people to thrive at Diageo and we are committed to their professional and personal development and to simply ensure that Diageo is a great place to work (www.diageo.com).” The company also said that they:

Diageo is a prime example of a company that has succeeded in global communications and business operations and will continue to thrive as it grows and expands to new markets.

That seems to be their biggest issue, and that is something that all companies should inherit. If there is a concern or a problem, it needs to be identified immediately, and the issue needs to be solved. Ignoring the problem can lead to severe consequences or results such as consumers dying from using their product and/or suing for what company may be worth. Making sure the employees and the customers/clients happy is another importance to making a successful company. Establishing relationship with them build a family and a better company. Make sure to stick with your intentions. Reputation is vital. In the end, if problems can be solved, people are happy, results are made, and a company gives everyone a fair chance, that company will be successful.
In a world that has grown increasingly smaller due to mass media, world travel, and readily available information, the workplace has grown increasingly diverse in both gender and cultural aspects. Individuals no longer live and work within the confines of their geographic locations. At almost any position with any company the individual employee is a part of a larger world economy that harvests assets from the ends of the earth. Because of this, companies seek to capitalize on diversity to become more creative and flexible in their business models.

With the advent of the Internet, decreased shipping costs, and the removal of trade barriers, the world market has shrunk in such a way that everyone can be a player. Take for example Coca-Cola; this multi-national corporation offers products in countries all over the world, operates in over 200 of those countries with the help of its franchisees, and is the most well-known beverage companies. It is interesting to note however, that as positive as globalization may seem, there are many negative ramifications and a large population of detractors to this movement. While increased product availability is good for profits, if a local market is inundated with imported products, locally grown or manufactured items may be squeezed out, to the detriment of the local economy. Although it is cost effective to have your product produced in another country with low wages, you are essentially taking away jobs from the people of your own country, negatively impacting your national economy. However, if you manufacture your products in a country with higher wages, you must increase your products’ prices which may be harmful to your profits. While maximizing your companies profits is always of great importance, it is essential that you weigh the pros and cons of globalization and its effects on not only your company, but the areas in which you wish to spread.
