The movie: Ghostbusters
From the very beginning of the classic film, Ghostbusters, we can see that ghosts wander the halls of the library as the books are levitating across the aisles and drawers are being opened without the help of anyone or anything, so we think. In the movie, Professor Venkman and two students were conducting the experiments about ESP abilities. He purposely marked the girl as correct when she was guessing the figures even when she was incorrect, while the professor still electrically shocked the boy even when he was correct when he stated what figures they were . He makes believe as if this girl has some sort of psychic ability. However, as defined in class, one of the two kinds of parapsychology is ESP which stands for extrasensory perception. It

deals with either sight, hearing, feeling, or other sensory processes that occur independently. Examples of extrasensory perception include telepathy, precognition, and clairvoyance. Another area of parapsychology is psychokinesis, PK, whereas mental intentions is in total control of affecting physical matter. PK includes levitation (as seen in Ghostbusters), dice rolls, or bending objects such as a spoon. In the widely known 1984 film, three very eccentric parapsychology professors decide to save the world by removing ghosts, spirits, haunts, and poltergeists when they were fired due to their “group activities”. The three former professors (Dr. Peter Venkman, Dr. Raymond Stanz, and Dr. Egon Spengler) decided to open up a ghost extermination business, Ghostbusters, since they are familiar with the parapsychology realm. As we had discussed earlier in class, ghosts are a difficult matter to work/study with since it is impossible to duplicate studies or to even know if a ghost is actually there or not. An example of this can be when Dr. Venkman looks into Dana Barrett’s fridge and theres nothing there, however she claims that, “There was *nothing* here! There was this…space! And there was a building or something with flames coming out of it, and there were creatures writhing around, and they were growling and snarling. And there were flames, and I heard a voice say “Zuul”! It was right there” We then have Dr. Venkman reply, “Well, I’m sorry, I’m just not getting any reading.” This just shows that ghost activities aren't able to be duplicated. Also, just as these three men were doing, they were simply assuming they got rid of the ghosts.
A prime example of this is when they “exterminated” the ghosts from the hotel but when in reality they didn’t do anything but damage the walls and chandelier. Some of the things that I have learned is that there’s no way to prove that they indeed removed the ghosts from any of the places that they worked on; there is no way to prove any of the topics of parapsychology through the scientific method. Unlike other scientific fields, this sort paranormal phenomena lacks the ability to follow such natural laws, such as gravity or conservation of mass and energy. In parapsychology, it is almost impossible to use adequate theoretical evidence to back your support because parapsychology lacks the scientific background that is needed. This type of phenomena is referred to anomalous phenomena Our class analyzed how the very popular story of the “Amityvillle Horror” was a made up story. The story claims to have talked to policemen, but when the police were asked about the family, the truth finally came out. They didn’t even know who the family living in the house was at that time. Since I am now more educated about ghosts and parapsychology, in general, I was able to depict areas
where the movie had flaws in. Some of there ares include the validity of the three parapsychologists and their work ethic. The three men were former professors who knew about the study of parapsychology, however, they did not practice parapsychology themselves. In order to be a ghost hunter, you need to have some sort of special power/connection between the living and the dead; it is not something that can be quickly acquired. Also, these so-called parapsychologist seemed very unprofessional in their work as they had outdated equipment which they didn’t know how to properly use. Parapsychology is a becoming to be a more popular and accepted form of pseudoscience that takes the world of science is a different direction with endless opportunities.

“The strange thing about the paranormal is that no matter how often [a person proves] it, it remains unproven” (Chopra). Given personal experience and evidence by professionals that have dedicated their lives to find answers regarding the paranormal and the afterlife. There will always be skeptics so long as there are humans with their own thoughts and opinions. Despite what skeptics say, ghosts exist; there are several eyewitness accounts, religious traditions, and traditional cultural stories that support the paranormal.
Sex, love, depression, guilt, trust, all are topics presented in this remarkably well written and performed drama. The Flick, a 2014 Pulitzer Prize winning drama by Annie Baker, serves to provide a social commentary which will leave the audience deep in thought well after the curtain closes. Emporia State Universities Production of this masterpiece was a masterpiece in itself, from the stunningly genuine portrayal of the characters of Avery and Rose, to the realism found within the set, every aspect of the production was superb.
The Mission: Impossible theme has been around since 1966, it was used for the TV show Mission Impossible. It’s one of the most recognizable soundtracks pieces in movie history. The Mission: Impossible theme was originally composed by Lalo Schifrin, he has written over 100 pieces for other soundtracks, he is 83 years old. When it was first released it peaked No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100, and when the remade version came out it peaked No. 7.
The true test of a film’s greatness is time. The 1984 science-fiction/comedy classic, Ghostbusters, has stood the test of time, producing both a sequel (in 1989) and a hit cartoon series. Ghostbusters is the story of three offbeat scientists interested in paranormal matters: Peter Venkman (played by Bill Murray), Raymond Stanz (played by Dan Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (played by Harold Ramis), who have just lost their university grant, and are suddenly forced out onto the streets of New York. What will they do now to survive? After taking a third mortgage out on Ray’s family home, Peter, Ray, and Egon decide to pursue the idea of catching and containing ghosts in the private sector. Their business, fittingly named: “Ghostbusters”, starts out slow, but quickly the word spreads of their ghost investigation and extraction services. Within seemingly no time at all, the Ghostbusters are a hot commodity in New York where ghost activity is on the rise.
Every year when the temperature starts dropping and the leaves begin to get crisp, many ghostly tales resurface themselves for another round of terrifying anyone who is unfortunate enough to be in earshot of their horror. Many nightmares, uneasy looks into the dark, and scary reflections could be avoided if this simple question was answered: is the existence of the paranormal just a figment of the human psyche, or is there significant evidence that proves otherwise? The answer is no. There is not any proof that any such “undead” walk among us. This can be disproved by debunking some of the bogus evidence out there, examining some of the most common “paranormal activities,” and understanding the sensory part of our brain that triggers these fears.
The movie Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is based in the 1970s. It depicts the highly male dominated broadcast team and shows the shake up when a woman is hired as a reporter and has aspirations of becoming an anchor the television station. The particular scene shows Ron Burgundy is flustered because Veronica Coringstone is impeding on his masculinity. Burgundy exemplifies hegemonic masculinity by explaining he is a man and a professional, when Coringstone says he his acting like a baby he takes offense and explains he is a man and he his ultimately better than a women because indeed he is a man. Burgundy states, “'I’m a man who discovered the wheel, and built the Eiffel Tower out of metal and brawn. That's what kind of man I am. You're just a woman with a small brain. With a brain a 1/3 the size of us...It's science (Robertson, McKay, 2004). The clip also depicts Burgundy’s desire for Coringstone to be the typical submissive female he is used to. The articles will identify the gender stereotypes and access if they are true or false based on the research.
Paranormal activity is manifestation that lies outside of the normal experience which can’t be proven to be real. Most people have become interested in the haunted houses and stones due to the lack of support that they are getting from the community of science. The lack of support from the community will be hard to get because most people do not believe in this. According to the unknown, “paranormal activities and sightings usually fall into categories: spirituals entities, crytids, which are organisms whose existence is told by legends and myths.” Most people think that paranormal deal with just ghost and their hauntings but it is much more than that. Paranormal phenomena are not accepted by the scientists because they feel the evidence should be required. According to Psychic Readings, "ESP stands for extra sensory perception. While clairvoyance, or seeing clearly is primarily an optional phenomenon." A clairvoyant psychic is someone who shares a vision of unseen in telling about their health or future. "Clairvoyants are people who specialize in supernatural skills," states Psychics Reading. People like this have a magical ability to see into the past, present, and future. ESP is normally addresses as the sixth sense. "The term 'ESP' was used often in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton." Psychical research does not support that everyone is born with this capability. It is said there are people who have experienced at least one ESP in their lifetime. However to Schmeidler, another theory claims that ESP is a super sense which evolves in the nervous system. From David’s perspective, “hundreds of years ago to possess the gift of clairvoyance, one was considered a witch - as unknown knowledge was 'feared' (the emotion which keeps us trappe...
between living organisms and their external environment that seem that seemed to transcend the known physical laws of nature (The Rhine, 2013). According to (Nichols, 2011) parapsychology was studied over 100 years and in that time amassed thousands of cases studies and formal experiments in order to better understand these non-ordinary realms. In the study of paranormal activity, they have been studying them in lavatories. When studying parapsychology, people try to get an understanding and hope to get their questions answered about the phenomena aspects of these subjects. Scientist who study paranormal activities are trying to discover why these events occur. Parapsychology came about in the 1930s. When in a paranormal situation it is weird and scary and sometimes unbelievable.
When most people think of paranormal activity they instantly think of ghosts, spirits, or even demons. Paranormal activity is more than that. Paranormal is when something is beyond normal and activity is the state of being active. Some people like to say it’s their imagination, but me personally, I think it is much more than that. Paranormal is used to describe something unordinary that lack a scientific explanation (Cha Cha Inc., 2006). (McGuire, 2010) stated that supernatural or paranormal events which occur when people are not seeking them out can be very difficult and frightening. Most people wonder about the different ways paranormal activity can be explained. A few different examples of paranormal activity are ghosts, levitation, telegraphs, etc. Footsteps, abnormal sounds, shadows, and even moving objects are all signs of paranormal activity.
Several declared they have seen a ghost manifest themselves in front of them. An article written by Lauren Honeycutt interviewed several college campuses in Alabama who have rankings on the electromagnetic meter. While visiting Willingham Hall, she interviewed one of the English instructors, Stephen Melvin, who said that he “saw the reflection of [the ghost] completely translucent from head to toe” (1). People will assume the apparition is part of the instructor’s imagination, but another professor also witnessed the same ghost appear in the Willingham Hall before. While two people may think alike, they do not have same inventiveness. Celebrities such as Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, and Emma Stone also had an experience with different ghosts. Their experiences happened at different times in their lives, but the result of their ghost encounters changed each of their beliefs in ghost. Although witnessing a ghost encounter and retelling the story will lead to a few people believing ghost, others want substantial evidence before considering changing their
Paranormal activity better known as parapsychology is a non-fictional idea. Parapsychology is the scientific study of interactions between living organisms and their external environment that seem to transcend the known physical laws of nature. (Teresi, 2000) The Society of Psychical Research was established in London in 1882 (Teresi, 2000). Major parapsychological studies had not begun appearing in mainstream scientific journals until the sixties and early seventies (Teresi, 2000).“Furthermore, groups such as the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal (CSICOP) which publishes the Skeptical Inquirer and the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF) have been formed to disseminate credible information on the paranormal. Credibility should be less of a problem in the future” (Teresi, 2000).
There are many meanings associated with the word ghost. Of course the most common is that a ghost is the Spirit or soul of a person who is no longer living. A spirit is the soul of a person who for what ever reason has not gone on yet. We also have heard many stories of people having encounters with Angels. While these do not exactly qualify as ghosts they are Spirits but may not be of people who have lived. The same is said of what is referred t...
Saying that one believes in ghosts would to any normal person seem reasonable, but stating that one had witnessed a visible apparition might seem strange.
Almost everyone has a favorite genre of film, but how everyone defines their favorite genre can differ greatly. Horror is one of the genres where its definition can be perceived differently by many people. Like all other genres, horror does have rules and traditions that must be included in order for a film to be considered a horror film. These rules and traditions include a protagonist, an antagonist, an escape or escape attempt of some sort, and very influential audio and visual effects.
