In their quest quest to fight injustice Ghandi and Antigone payed the ultimate price: their lives. Antigone and Ghandi were united in their beliefs seeing that they both peacefully fight opression by their government. By comparing Sophocles’ Antigone and “On Civil Disobedience by Ghandi you would conclude that Ghandi approves of Antigone’s actions.

Both Antigone and Ghandi were so strong in their beliefs that they were willing to be punished for them. In Antigone, she is forced to make the decision to do what’s right even if there will be fatal consequences. On line 55, “But I will bury him; and if i must die, I say that this is a holy crime.” Antigone is explaining that she will do what is right , even when everything is on the line. Ghandi has a similar viewpoint which he explains in “On Civil Disobedience” when he announces that, “ We will gladly die and and will not so much as touch you, but so long as there is yet life in these our bones, we will never comply with your arbitrary laws.” In this excerpt Ghandi explains that he also is willing to reap the consequences along with Antigone. …show more content…

An example of Ghandi’s defiance is when he states, “We made it clear that we would never bow down to the governments oppressing laws. Likewise, antigone objects to her government’s tyranny. She speaks to this when she hostilely states, “Since apparently the laws of the gods mean nothing to you.” (line 62.)
