I grew up in Agricola, a small village in Guyana notoriously known for high incidence of theft, drug trafficking, prostitution and teenage pregnancy. The social and economical pillars present were so degraded within Agricola that an incessant stigma developed; thus, many secondary school graduates and adults from the village found it difficult to obtain employment. Consequently, a torrent of murders and violent crime ensued and the cycle of poverty continued. However, a group of influential elders of the community decided that they have had enough with of the crime and the resulting socio-economic constraints that had arisen. These inspirational men and women engaged the government and other key stakeholders of the nation to embark on a restoration initiative. Thus, the first non-profit organization within the community: the Agricola Restoration Association (ARA) was the birthed. Several other interest groups also saw the need for a revitalized Agricola, one of such was the African Development and Cultural Association (ACDA).With funding from the Inter- Development Bank (IDB), ACDA executed a comprehensive Leadership and Entrepreneurship program for ten ambitious young people living in Agricola. An extensive one year course focused on empowering, providing skills training and networking marginalized youths.
Such an unprecedented program delivered to us the window to purge the stigma attached to the community. Being very comprehensive and interactive, the solicitors of the program really carefully analyzed every facet of leadership, entrepreneurship and socio-political matrix of our nation. The program also provided networking, where numerous government officials, army officers, and highly successful businessmen came throughout ...

...tion of teenage pregnancy, crime and violence and more importantly a significance increase in youth employment. They are only a few other sensations out there that is as gratifying as when I witnessed the lives of many young men and women transformed. Though becoming a chemical engineer is a personal feat, it is entirely centered on the merits of improving the lives of others, and had evolved from the success of the YLA and the principles of servant leadership. I truly appreciate this opportunity to express these sentiments so dear to my heart. This truly emphasizes Gettysburg’s commitment to co-circular students, and so positions this institution above many others. I have never been more enthusiastic than I am to attend Gettysburg University; an institution where I can undertake a highly accredited chemical engineering program and can continue making a difference.
As Kenyan mother once said, “My dreams don’t look exactly like I thought they would when I was a little girl” (nd). Jacqueline Novogratz, a modern philanthropist, understands this better than most. A typical American girl, she found herself in Africa, helping women with no voice in their world. She never planned for this growing up, but her leadership, determination, and new way of looking at the world was in her from the beginning.
I am attending NYU so that I can get a job later in life. I study chemistry and engineering, in the hopes that I can become a chemical engineer.
As an adolescent growing up in Jamaica I was intrigued by the justice and political system. I would question why many law breakers would be roaming free and so many homeless people were on the streets. I probed the purpose of policies and the justice system after witnessing child abuse, and watching my peers suffer from enduring molestation from family members. On numerous days I obtrusively observed my surroundings just to satisfy my curiosity on how some very impoverished individuals and others with mental health issues survived and solved their everyday life happenings.

My decision to enroll in college has been one that I have been pondering for the last three decades. During my last year of high school, I met a friend who was surprised that was not planning on enrolling at the local community college. As I've matured and joined the United States Marine Corps, I had an opportunity to start my college journey. Surprisingly, that was in 1978. From 1978 to 2009 my journey took me to my midpoint and I received my Associates Degree. The thrill of receiving that Associates degree motivated me to start on my undergraduate journey. There were several reasons why I decided to start this journey in addition to the thrill and it ranges from making new friends, preparing for new career, learn new skills, and most importantly to increase my knowledge. That is why I decided to enroll at American Military University in pursuit of my undergraduate degree in Emergency Management (EM) and Preparedness.
Student participation in the annual Business Society Haunted House is essential for the future of this great event. Penn State DuBois has nearly one thousand students attending classes, but on average only fifteen students volunteer their time each night over the five-day period. This presents a problem for the Business Society. If student participation continues to decrease, this event will only be a memory.

I look forward to being a better engineer than I am today by joining the student community at Clemson University.
The United States Naval Academy is an ideal institution in that it provides tools to give those who wish to give service to their country knowledge and a degree. To obtain a degree in Engineering is an unwavering objective, the Naval Academy is the keystone to accomplishing that objective while fulfilling my commitment to serve. An education at the USNA is more than an education, it is an edification that will prepare me to join a leading rank of officers by offering skills that are nonpareil, and it is an education that will cultivate bonds and unity that are indissoluble even from the hands of time. After experiencing Summer Seminar, I first hand saw what hard work and persistence poured into an education at the USNA can do for I and my country, and I would be honored to pour every part of me into the laborious pathway through the United States Naval
The various processes and concepts involved in industries responsible for the production of innumerable day to day goods have always captured my fascination. The production and processing of chemicals form the crux of such industries. What started as a fascination has turned into a passion, and the next step in this journey is why i am aspiring towards a Master of Science degree in CHEMICAL ENGINEERING at PENN ENGINEERING specializing in {Specialization}.
Social Media has become a very essential tool in the society; in addition, it has a huge impact on communication and learning process. In rural Nigeria, up to 80% of the population (as compared to 70% of Nigeria as a whole3) live below the poverty line, despite their fast-growing agricultural economy4. According to Nigerian author Anthony Maduagwu, it is in places such as these where we can find the solution to Nigeria's economic predicament. In his article “Alleviating poverty in Nigeria”, he says, “only the poor understands poverty and it is also the poor that know how their poverty could be alleviated... the fact is that the poor usually have quite good perceptions of their own needs and goals and of what would be required to satisfy and make progress toward them”5. He made the case that while government-funded “poverty alleviating programmes” help poverty rates in one place, the create poverty in another6. This is supported b...

An entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages a business undertaking, assuming the risk for the sake of profit. According to Martin (2010) an entrepreneur sees an opportunity which others do not fully recognize, to meet an unsatisfied demand or to radically improve the performance of an existing business. To have self-belief that this opportunity can be made real through hard work, commitment and the adaptability to learn the lessons of the market along the way. For example, When an almost bankrupt security company was offered to her, Datuk Maznah Hamid and her husband, who were eager to change their ordinary life, took the plunge and sacrificed RM5,000 of their saving. Only then she realized that apart from managing the operation, she also had to be a manager, a clerk, an accountant and a receptionist. To grow their business, they had to sell their house and moved to a slum that came without electricity. But she persevered. Today, it’s difficult to find someone who has never heard of Securiforce.
My father, being a chemical engineer, inspired in me an innate desire to be a chemical engineer myself. I appeared for the All India Engineering Entrance Exam (AIEEE) and was placed in the top 1% of the 1,100,000 students who had taken the exam. I chose Chemical Engineering as my undergraduate major at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur which provided me the opportunity to explore the breadth of chemical engineering. While the core courses provided the fundamentals of the field, the electives that I chose helped me gain an insight into the various facets of chemical engineering.
