Genre is a term grouping texts together representing how authors normally utilize language to respond to repeated contexts. The term genre analysis refers to the process of identifying and breaking down specific characteristics that compose a genre. Genre analysis looks at similarities and difference among these characteristics. Genre analysis includes genre conventions, genre audience, structure, content, and contexts.
An effective genre analysis will establish effective line of communication between author and his or her audience. Effective genre will also emphasize the structure of text and will enable reader or viewer to accept a certain style. As a result, working genre will inevitably add critical consistency improving readability of a text. Genre also sets expectations, so audience is more aware of the context. However, genres tend to be versatile on both author and audience cannot solely rely on genre conventions to set their expectations.

Based on the writings and readings we have done in class, the best candidate for discussing the many different types of genre systems would be Charles Bazerman. Bazerman does a successful job at breaking down the meaning of a genre system. His text also analysis’s the larger aggregations that genres are part of and introduces and methodological issue of how expand our perspective on genres and the systems they are part of. Bazerman does all of this successfully by using examples that young people can relate to.

The novel referenced in this essay is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Today we focus on the main character Jay Gatsby, whose ultimate demise could have been avoided if not for his choices and actions. There are several things that Gatsby could have done to prevent his death. If I was Jay Gatsby, there are so many things that I would have done differently to have a better outcome and possibly prevent his death. In this essay, we will not only explore what those options could have been, I will also consider what he could have done differently.

It is a convention in which people can refer to initially grasp the notion of a film, “for the vast publicity system that exists around filmmaking, genres are a simple way to characterize film. Our entire lives have been shaped by the events happening around us. Along with us many factors in our day to day lives have evolved too, including musical genre. One such genre is rock. There are many categories of film genre. These categories can cover practically any film ever made by man, although film categories can never be precise. By isolating the various elements in a film and categorizing them in genres, it is possible to easily evaluate a film within its genre and allow for meaningful comparisons and some judgements on greatness.
