Genre is a term grouping texts together representing how authors normally utilize language to respond to repeated contexts. The term genre analysis refers to the process of identifying and breaking down specific characteristics that compose a genre. Genre analysis looks at similarities and difference among these characteristics. Genre analysis includes genre conventions, genre audience, structure, content, and contexts.

An effective genre analysis will establish effective line of communication between author and his or her audience. Effective genre will also emphasize the structure of text and will enable reader or viewer to accept a certain style. As a result, working genre will inevitably add critical consistency improving readability of a text. Genre also sets expectations, so audience is more aware of the context. However, genres tend to be versatile on both author and audience cannot solely rely on genre conventions to set their expectations.

The appeal to popularity is widely utilized within magazine articles (ethos). This plays a role of increasing magazine’s audience because appeals to popularity is normally accepted by the majority of population.
