Genius is not about scoring 4.0 in academic’s cumulative grade point average, mastering seven languages at the age of seven, or having an extraordinarily high I.Q.Genius as referred to Collins Cobuild Advance Dictionary means “a person who displays exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of an unprecedented leap of insight”. For example, Albert Einstein is a 20th-century symbol of scientific genius. However, there are negative impacts of being genius such as it leads to psychological problems and disorders, it leads people to do something horrible, and it leads genius people to go against human right.
To begin with, the negative impact of being genius is it leads to psychological problems and disorders. There are varieties of psychological problems and disorders such as it will lead to bipolar disorder, depression, and they can be affected by schizophrenia disorder. Based on Jamison, K. R. (2010), one study tested intelligence of 7, 000, 000 Swedish 16 years old, and found that they are proved to develop mental illness 10 years later. Genius people can lead to bipolar disorders. In fact, people who excelled when they were 16 years old were four times as likely to go on to develop bipolar disorders. Jamison, K. R. (2010) states that bipolar disorder entails extreme mood swings between extreme happiness and severe depression. For example, research by James Fallon as cited in Jamison, K. R. (2010), a neurobiologist at the University of California, Irvine said that people with bipolar disorder tend to be creative when they’re coming out of depression. Based on Benjamin Franklin, the quote means if you are a natural born genius but you don’t get propereducation to showcase your talents, then it is wasted. Silver in the mine is no good until you take it out of the mine. Similar to this case, genius people without using their education will lead to the variety of negative impacts. Thus, there are no doubt that it can lead to psychological problems and disorders, it can lead people doingsomething horrible, and itcan lead genius people to go against human right are the negative impacts of being genius. People can achieve intelligent by learning or by following their passion in whatever they love. If someone loves fixing cars there is a chance he will become a mechanic, so he will be intelligent in that careers. That is how someone becomes intelligent because they learned everything they can about their profession in book or by what they learn on the streets. To become a intelligent person is important in society because that sets a standard for us and we try to learn everything we can to be the best in our jobs and careers, so we can be the best in our field.
Some people work hard their whole life to achieve success and others just seem to be born talented in a certain field that they prevail in. One of the ways an individual can attempt to become successful is by working diligently in school to obtain a proper education. Access to advanced education is key if you would want to become very intelligent and furthermore the so called “gifted programs” in these advanced education systems are supposed to make you even smarter.People have wondered if going through gifted programs would make you more successful in your adult life.There was a man named Richard Terman, who wanted to take a group of kids in these gifted programs, his “Termites”, and track how successful they were later in life. He was hoping to find that the kids that were in advanced classes would in fact become very successful adults and he was right. When his Termites were adults many of them became experts in different fields. Richard Florida, in The Rise of the Creative Class, describes creativity as a separate entity from intelligence, and I totally agree. He also describes it as something acquired through experience. I have always been a nerd, but that doesn’t make me a creative genius—and my tunnel vision hasn’t helped either. Florida mocked me with these words: “Creativity is favored by an intellect that has been enriched with diverse experiences and perspectives.”
Results of students who received praise for intelligence: The students in this category had negative results after receiving praising. When asked afterwards if they wanted to do the same level of problems or try more challenging ones, they chose the task that would allow them to look smart and do well on. Consequently, while telling a child how smart he or she is, we are sending a message to not take risks and just look the part. Afterwards, these children were given a hard task, which they performed poorly on, and they know longer liked the problems and did not want to practice them at home. Children also felt “dumb” and when given the initial task (in which they did well), they performed significantly worse. Lastly, their opinions of intelligence reflected that it was an innate capacity as though you cannot improve.

The Gladwell’s example of experiment by Lewis Terman, He argues about that a person’s IQ have a limited control over success. He claims that there is a minimal difference in the levels of success attained by those with IQs between 125 and 170. The author adds that IQ cannot efficiently measure person’s creativity. A person who has a high IQ does not mean that it has a high chance of winning a Nobel Prize because other kind of intelligence matter too. The Family Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) was established to provide employees with ability to take a leave from work for personal or family health issues. The Act lays out specific circumstance in which an employee may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave within a 12 month period. Under the law, employees may request a leave for personal health issues, to care for a child, spouse or parent with serious health issues, birth or care of a child during the first year or for newly placed adoptions within one year. Employees are covered under FMLA if the employer has 50 or more employees and the employee has worked for the employer for at least 12 months. The employee must submit a written request for FMLA and provide documentation supporting their request. Once approved, the employee may take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave. To begin, when one has a good mind, one must also have ambitions and goals to go with it, if one wishes to be successful. Those who are intelligent are capable of doing great things, but without ambitions and goals, there is no reason to actually go out and accomplish anything. I myself know a man who never set goals for himself in life, even though he was brilliant. This man simply laid back and coasted on his laurels during his educational career because he was so smart. However, in high school, the work began to catch up to him, and soon enough he was failing most of his classes. Still, he was without ambition and had no intent of studying or trying to raise his grades. Today, he lives at home with his mother at the age of 25. This man perfectly illustrates the point that even though one might have a good mind, they must put it to use.
The education system has been a controversial issue among educators. Requirements of school do not let students choose what they want to study for their future. It’s a big issue to force students to study specific curriculums, which don’t help them improve, and what they like to create. Educators choose a general system of education for all students based on general knowledge. Intelligent or genius students have to be in that system of education, which doesn’t let them improve their creativity.
