The word "computer" was first recorded as being used in 1613 and was originally used to describe a human who performed calculations or computations. The definition of a computer remained the same which is an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program. Until the end of the 19th century when people began to realize machines never get tired and can perform calculations much faster and more accurately than any team of human computers ever could. Charles Babbage is the father of computing after his invention and concept of the Analytical Engine in 1837. With a basic flow control, and integrated memory, the first general purpose computer concept was born. It was later that, Charles’ son Henry Babbage completed a portion of this machine and the computer was able to perform basic calculations. Having no invention of a computer, the Babbage are known as the father of computing is due to the ideas and concept he visualised at that point of time. There are 5 generations of modern computers each ranging about 5 years. the First generation of computers is between the year of 1940s to 1956. The Second generation is between 1956 to 1963. Whilst the third generation was between 1964 to 1971. We’re currently in the Fourth generation (1971 till present). The fifth generation is from now and beyond. Humans are comfortable with what we have and we need the computer to advanced to another generation. The more developed the computers in the coming generation, the more develop our lives may be.

There are many different beginnings to the origins of computers. Their origins could be dated back more than two thousand years ago, depending on what a person means when they ask where the first computer came from. Most primitive computers were created for the purpose of running simple programs at best. (Daves Old Computers) However, the first ‘digital’ computer was created for the purposes of binary arithmetic, otherwise known as simple math. It was also created for regenerative memory, parallel processing, and separation of memory and computing functions. A relatively new field of study, the first college degree program in a U.S. College didn't exist until 1971. The history of computers is much older, stretching back to the 17th century when computers were conceived as an idea to make simple math easier, using mechanical parts to calculate basic math instead of by hand, which produced a large amount of errors. An early contributor to computers, Blaise Pascal was an inventor who invented a mechanical calculator called the “Pascaline”, which was used as an aid for his father, who was a tax collector. The one-function Pascaline could only add, and couldn't be sold due to its high cost. The archaic calculator was an inspiration to many inventors, who added and improved to it over the centuries. One inventor, Gottfried Leibniz, improved on it by adding subtraction, multiplication and division functions.

Credit cards can be used to do on-line shopping at virtually any store. E-mail has changed the way that people communicate, it is usually free of charge and mail is sent and received in minutes. His goal was to create a machine that would reduce the possibility of human error in making mathematical calculations. In addition to inventing an early form of the calculator, Babbage also invented the cowcatcher and the first speedometer for trains. Babbage said, “At each increase of knowledge, as well as on the contrivance of every new tool, human labor becomes abridged.” This could possibly mean that he was on his quest for knowledge to help reduce the amount of human labor needed in daily processes. Babbage could only have achieved those great feats because of the fine education he received during his childhood.
