In the movie Gattaca, there were moral issues presented through the characters and setting. Vincent, the main character is a self-interested young man who was born with a heart condition as well as poor eyesight, meaning he is an invalid in the society introduced. This prevents him from working in many exceptional places. Genetic discrimination is very prevalent in the movie. This makes it nearly impossible for Vincent to get into Gattaca Aerospace Corporation, his dream job. This means he is ineligible to ever go into space. Interviews counted as a genetic test, and if a condition like Vincent's appeared, it would be an automatic no. Another extremity Vincent went through was using Eugene's fingerprints. He was very determined through his appearance to become Jerome to make it into space. While those physical appearances and DNA changes were made, his body still had a heart condition, he would participate in training at Gattaca and still struggle with many potential scares and strains on his heart, but he went to all lengths just for his self-interest. Only a self-interested person with the end goal that only benefits them would have a height increase surgery or exfoliate their skin roughly many times a week to guarantee no dried skin falls on a keyboard. There are many consequences of Jerome being an egoist. These consequences include having to lie to Irene about his identity, she even took a piece of hair to have it tested. A potential relationship could have easily been destroyed with the lying, but no matter the consequence he continued to think of himself and the satisfaction of his end
