When you start to build yourself as a person you will start to feel accomplished and important. In 1943 Abraham Maslow made a hierarchy of needs, a hierarchy of needs is a description of what motivates humans to make the decisions they do. Gathering blue is a book written by Lois Lowry, she makes a story based of a oppressed society with the main Character being Kira.With reference to Kira from Gathering Blue, she can be matched to Maslow’s Hierarchy. Kira is a two syllable girl, both her parents are dead and she has a broken leg. After she comes back from her mother at the field her hut is burned and her garden is mostly destroyed. Looked up open by a little boy named Matt, Kira starts to form a better relationship with him but also recently met a boy her age named Thomas. Thomas and Kira have very similar pasts. After Matt, Kira, and Thomas start hanging out more they get to know each other and there is no longer a awkward ambiance when they are all together. Kira is now finished the third level love and belonging. Therefore Kira moves on to the fourth level of Maslow's Hierarchy, self esteem. Kira begins to feel important. With her job as fixing a robe she is very confident and believes she is a very good threader. Even Jamison said this is where the future is and she feels a sense of responsibility. Because of all this Kira is happy and plans to be the Treader of the future. Even though she feels she is accomplished she also begins to be respected by others. The room service and other people are always willing to help and are really kind to Kira. Even the stubborn little boy matt obeys what she says. When Kira tells him he can't have the gift he gives back right away and says sorry. Now Kira needs to self actualize
