Implementing the primary nursing care model would turn around the situation in the hospital to fewer complications, shorter stay in the hospital, and thus improve involvement and satisfaction. Having primary care nurses in the hospital would increase patient safety and satisfaction as well as the quality of care as demonstrated by a family-centered care model. The new nurses in the facility are, however, working together to assess the number of patients receiving primary care in the hospital in addition to developing a survey for staff nurses regarding their understand and interest in primary care. The new nurses have also designed nursing primary care team cards to be used in each bedside chart as a way of implementing primary nursing care model. The cards are being used to notify the medical team about the nurses who make up the primary team of the patients. The teams are also working to increase family awareness for the patients.
Recommendations
To improve quality of nursing care, safety, and staff satisfaction, the care delivery facility should use the functional nursing model. The functional nursing model involves assigning nurses to carry it out at all patients and complex nursing tasks. The model assumes

This nursing care model is efficient in task execution involving a large number of clients. Therefore, nurses in this care model would carry out physician orders while providing physical care by completing the assigned procedures and tasks. However, the assignment might fail to take into consideration the nurse’s capabilities or the needs or conditions of the patient. The functional nursing model would ensure that each caregivers become very efficient, well-organized, and can coordinate staff activities according to their job descriptions within a short period of time (Williams,
“Don’t waste your love on someone who doesn’t value it.” In the play Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare exposes the life of two young lovers in the Renaissance period fighting for something they cannot live without; each other. Although fate takes its toll, the everlasting feud between two families, conditional love by parents, and the irresponsibility’s of father and mother like figure are the main causes in the death of Romeo and Juliet. The idea of love is something that is valued in this play from many different aspects of characters, lines, and scenes. Shakespeare leaves the minds of readers soaring over not why it happened, but who was at fault.
Nurses have long been known for their attention to patient care. The reason many nurses have entered this profession is due to their desire to care for people. The overwhelming responsibilities of documentation, chart reviews, verifying orders and medications, monitoring lab results, among others, leaves the direct care of the patient to another, possibly unqualified, staff member. Bolton, Gassert, and Cipriano (2008) estimate that a mere 23-30% of a nurse’s day is spent providing care to a patient. This leaves the greater part of a 12-hour shift performing some kind of paperwork. In fact, the inability to provide more patient care has been cited as a reason many nurses leave their job, and the profession altogether (Bolton et al., 2008).
Over the past years, there has been a nursing shortage which has led to the need of more registered nurses in the hospital setting. This is the result of higher acuity of patient care and a decrease in their length of hospital stay. In order for the patients to get safe and quality care, the staffing, education and experience of the nursing staff needs to be made a priority. Because of the lack of nurses, patient quality of care has suffered.
Two potential barriers to the Patient-Family Centered Care model are time and patient/family expectations. Nursing is a demanding job that is known for it's fast paced and often hectic environment. While caring for several patients at a time, it might be difficult to make time to discuss and involve patients and their family in all aspects of their care. This could lead to the patient/family feeling left out or even lead to fear about why information if being kept from them. To address this barrier I will set aside time to spend with each of my patients solely dedicated to discussion about the care they are receiving as well as provide an opportunity to voice questions and concerns.
Concept analysis seeks to determine structure, function, attributes, and characteristics of a concept which serves to provide common understanding of the term so that future research endeavors find the concept clearly communicable and increasingly measurable. (Smego, 2010.) Compassion Fatigue (CF) within the nursing profession needs to be probed more critically and monitored for trends among certain subspecialties of nursing. Compassion fatigue or otherwise known as Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder is clinically defined as, “The emotional residue or strain of exposure to working with those suffering from the consequences of traumatic events. It differs from burn-out, but can co-exist.
Vincent nurses, provides a framework for professional nursing practice guided this research. As the business of healthcare is about taking care of people, the model starts with the patient, and their family, as the central focus. Surrounding the patient, are the concepts of mind, body and spirit, which cause us to think holistically regarding the care provided. Finally, the core values/ faith based practices, guide us in managing our patients in a way that is consist with our culture/ values, supportive of our professional growth, encourages the use of best practices, that result in better outcomes, and makes us productive in a way the encourages giving back outside the hospital as well (Stone, 2011).
The nursing profession consist of different workflow designs to provide the appropriate care to our patient population. “Nursing models of care are developed to identify and describe nursing care” (Finkelman, 2016). While providing care for our patients it is important to render the appropriate care delivery model according to the type of patients you are serving within the community. They are many different approaches to providing care to patients and the care model design. Some model may include some aspect of the other nursing model depending on the situation. Some of the different models include “total patient care, functional nursing, team nursing, primary nursing, contemporary model and care and service team
The purpose of this goal is to provide better patient centered care, while applying a greater importance of each individual. “Nurses have the opportunity to play a central role in transforming the health care system to create a more accessible, high-quality, and value-driven environment for patients” (IOM 2010, p. 85). Advanced education and fewer limitations on the nursing workforce will lead to more primary care for each and every patient, thus leading to greatest possible patient outcome. To practice significantly in a primary care setting I must implement and acquire new changes in nursing practice, patient care performances, and improved my participation in the innovative and enriched health care organization. Progressing my education while practicing nursing will improve my knowledge and skills to advocate my patient and my family.
A model is a simplified representation of the structure and content of a phenomenon or system that describes or explains the complex relationships between concepts within the system and integrates elements of theory and practice (Creek et al 1993).
In today’s world, one of the most competitive and most rewarding jobs is in the Health Care Field. This field is composed of different areas of specialization that focus on treating, preventing, and diagnosing anything that is threatening patient health. Different professional individuals devote their knowledge to taking care of the health of their patients. However, from all the professions, the professionals that spend the most time with the patients are the nurses. Nurses spend a lot of time with the patients, implementing the orders given by the physicians and monitoring the patients status.
Advocacy in action paper is to examine various issues in nursing staffing in the hospital and the impact of this issue on the patient’s care and patient satisfaction. Every nurse role and mission is to take care of a patient and advocate for a safe and healthy work environment. It is very important for all nurses to work together, successfully advocate for nurses and the profession to achieve a safer work environment. My role in this paper is to advocate for improvement, practicing safe in the hospital to improve patient satisfaction and reduction in nurse burnout.
Refraining from blame being placed on nurses in regards to lapses in patient care, hospital administrators should ensure the safety of patients by examination of how health care is provided within the facility in relationship to changing nurses working conditions in an effort to allow safe care to patients. With inadequate nurse staffing in connections to unrealistic work loads contributes to unnecessary burden on nursing staff, reducing the quality of care that nurses can provide. Appropriate nurse staffing level are essential to optimizing quality of care and patient outcomes in this era of value-based
Staffing issues amongst the nursing profession has been a major concern. Safety of both nurse and patient is important. There is a strong correlation between having an adequate nursing staff and patient safety outcomes. The rise in the acuity of patients and shorter hospital stays has been linked to errors, nurse burnout, and patients sometimes feeling neglected. Patient satisfaction has become the major focus point since the change of our health care system today. Being able to find an optimal nurse- to- patient ratio has been an ongoing struggle in mostly all health care facilities. This paper will answer the PICO question, how is quality of care and patient safety affected in regards to nursing staffing and nurse patient ratios?
As defined as a discipline, profession, and area of practice, nursing is based upon the maintenance of a patient’s health and recovery, from mental or physical illness or injury. Nurses aid an individual or individuals sick or well. There are four major principal characteristics that further define nursing care: phenomena that concern nurses, theories for nursing intervention, nursing action taken, evaluation of the effects about phenomena. This research paper will help me to learn more about this perspective field of healthcare. Throughout this research paper, I will discuss their education, duties, work environments, job outlooks, and their pay.
Managing Service Delivery in Health and Social Care Task 1: Importance of service delivery. Task 2: Importance of quality 2.1 Impact of quality on safety of patient Nurses play an important role in the quality of safety because they give treatment to patients and their negligence may affect on the health and even can die due to their negligence. Performance of quality management involves enhancing the outcomes and reducing the risks. Quality and safety improvement permeates the health care and services provided to an individual institution.
