After she turns eighteen, she agrees to merry to Shusaku Hojo (voiced by Yoshimasa Hosoya) who works as a naval office and lives in nearby port city of Kure. The rest of this anime concentrates on her new life in Kure, how she as a new wife & daughter-in-law cops with her new family and the approaching horror of war.
Although this is an anime, director Sunao Katabuchi and his team pay lots of attentions to how Hiroshima and Kure would look like during 1945.
