A term that has been used in childhood education is STEM. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Recently, it had been changed to STEAM to accommodate Arts into the major focus areas. National Association for the Education of Young Children wants teachers to begin teaching children STEAM in preschool to give young children learning experiences in these areas. STEAM provides learning experiences using everyday experiences.
Fred Rogers, a graduate from University of Pittsburgh, helped create program to help children learn skills fun and creatively. His show was called Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. The PBS program was to teach social-emotional skills and STEAM curriculum. He wanted children to be more aware about themselves and everyone around them.
STEAM is the framework of education that uses science, technology, engineering, arts and math to teach children using language and inquiry-based thinking. Science is about discovering and learning about how and why things work. Hedda Sharapan says that, “It’s about experimenting, encouraging investigation, and asking “Why do you think…?” questions.” Science is important because children are curious in nature that it helps them begin to start thinking critically. Technology is something that is not just electronics like computers or cell phones but simple things like paper and pencils. Engineering is recognizing a problem then finding solutions to the work out the problem. Children go through this process everyday in school and at home when they working with blocks trying to figure out how to build a tower and at a water table trying to figure out how to make a boat that will float. Fred Rogers is an important person in the education field. Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood was one of the shows I enjoyed watching as I grew up. The show taught me a lot without knowing I was learning anything. I remember the puppets scared me because they were creepy looking.
I think using children’s interests can help you teach children that are not interested in learning or even being at school. Always encourage children to ask questions and be curious about things. It will help them not to be afraid to ask questions when they are older. Books will be very important in my classroom. I think books can give children more information on a certain subject than a teacher can.

There are many different curriculums that are used in early childhood classrooms. Two curriculums that are used are High Scope and Reggio Emilia. Both of these curriculums have unique aspects that make up their curriculums. In addition, High Scope and Reggio Emilia have similarities and differences.
With an emphasis on STEM education, I am able to implement many forms of technology and new literacies into everyday lessons. Defining New literacies as “the skills, strategies, and insights necessary to successfully exploit the rapidly changing information and communication technologies that continually emerge in our world” (Reutzle & Cooter, 2015, p.21),lends to many of the programs I offer being highly effective in exposing students to such literacies. The use of computers is a way in which I connect students to 21st century technologies. Dr. Seuss wrote, “You’re off to great places. Today is your day. Your mountain is waiting. So get on your Way”. The role of the early childhood educator, while rewarding, can sometimes feel as is you are climbing a mountain. Educators have to consider how to implement curriculum, instruction, management, and technology in the classroom. Educators also have to provide an environment where all children feel safe and nurtured. When creating a course of action, educators have to consider their role as well as the role of the student, parent, and community.
My grandfather was the kind of man who loved my grandmother and supported her in every way, including her career. He was well known in New Jersey and probably throughout the country as a leader of the New Jersey Education Association and the New Jersey Retired Educators' Association. Getting people, especially kids interested in school is the one and only thing that no one has quite figured out yet. If you teach on a project based learning curriculum you take the risk of having kids fall into a lazy slump. If you teach primarily with textbooks and lectures, you run the risk of kids skipping and falling asleep. Is there truly a way of keeping kids entertained while teaching them the necessities? This proves that the challenges in the educational system need to be seen and acted upon by higher ups before public schools can even think about making a difference. As a teacher I believe that the most effective way to teach children is teaching through play and example by using pictures and gestures. Children are motivated to learn when they have opportunities to make choices in an environment that are inspiring and stimulating. Children are interested from infancy and have a desire to learn from their environment and those around them. When children are encouraged to interact with their peers and adults in positive ways, they feel safe to explore their surroundings. The question of early education should be investigated and controlled on the arrange level because it has a very important impact on the economy, social structure and cultural level of different countries.
