A freshman college class introduces me to Economics much like how New York City introduces me to the United States. Through books and media, I came into contact with New York, which ignited my initial interest in America. This seed of admiration eventually emerged as one of my life-long goals – to study in the US. I have always been determined to complete my study at this world-capital, had my dream of studying in the US come into fruition. And there is no better fit for me than the New York University.
NYU has all the attributes needed for me to thrive. It has strong economics programs in both of the departments - College of Art and Science and Stern. Adding this flexibility to the already versatile subject that is Economics, I am sure no
Bruni begins by describing the golden promise of college as it appeared for baby boomers. In that time getting into college and completing a degree was enough to be successful. He acknowledges that this idealized vision of college may be inaccurate, however, he asserts that the issue is far more “complicated” than it once was. Bruni makes use of a recent (2012) debate over student loan interest rates in the U.S. to explore the issues surrounding college education today. While rising student debt is certainly part of the problem he suggests that the issue extends beyond that. College is now a “luxury item with newly uncertain returns” (Bruni). While rising costs make college a luxury item that not everyone will be able to afford, even those who can and do manage to go to college are not guaranteed success.
Last summer I volunteered at a local hospital for a total of 136 hours. At the end of the summer I received an honorable mention award for being a dedicated volunteer who is highly respected around the hospital. Furthermore, I've been a committed volunteer during this school year. I have also been an active member of my school's HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America) chapter; this March I will be competing in a medical terminology competition against members of other HOSA chapters across the state. Additionally, I am a devoted member of my school's academic decathlon team. Finally, I have been a member of CSF (California Scholarship Federation) for the past two years.
The authors statements in his essay are ones every student coming into college age should hear. Though it is widely known that our economy has been through hard times, it is great to hear the prospective of a college student learning valuable life lessons. The motivation to use this first hand knowledge and see its potential to motivate himself through his studies is a lesson for all students.
Instead, Sanford J. Ungar presents the arguments that all higher education is expensive and needs to be reevaluated for Americans. He attempts to divert the argument of a liberal arts education tuition by stating “ The cost of American higher education is spiraling out id control, and liberal-arts colleges are becoming irrelevant because they are unable to register gains i productivity or to find innovative ways of doing things” (Ungar 661). The author completely ignores the aspects of paying for a liberal arts degree or even the cost comparison to a public university. Rather, Ungar leads the reader down a “slippery slope” of how public universities attain more funding and grants from the government, while liberal arts colleges are seemingly left behind. The author increasingly becomes tangent to the initial arguments he presented by explaining that students have a more interactive and personal relationship with their professors and other students. Sanford J. Ungar did not address one aspect of the cost to attend a liberal arts college or how it could be affordable for students who are not in the upper class.

Imagine telling a student who just graduated from college that you have wasted four years of hard, stressful and even worse, expensive work. Unfortunately, in this cynical society today, the world isn’t just full of competitors, but it’s full of greedy money-grabbing businesses. The worst businesses aren’t manufacturing or electric companies, but colleges and universities. In Caroline Bird’s essay “College is a Waste of Time and Money,” she examines how college has been viewed for so long as the best place to send high school grads no matter whether they actually want to go or not. She adds that students don’t realize how much college costs and are wasting their parents time and money, which is especially a horrible thing to waste. Now that the economy is better since September 11th and states have been stabilizing their budget debts, it doesn’t make sense that tuition prices higher than ever for college students.
Throughout high school I have dreamed of having the opportunity to attend Indiana University. I have a true passion for babies. I love to learn how babies are developed and how they become such an amazing part of the world. Therefore, I would like to apply to Indiana University and pursue a degree in Pediatric Nursing. I would love to be able to deliver babies and deliver new life into this earth. There are several opportunities available for me to get involved with new leadership opportunities. I want to be able to be a leader for all age groups.
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
An interest in business and agricultural studies has always taken some form throughout my life, whether it was running a farm in seventh grade, building a mentoring program during freshmen year or acting as the treasurer for National Honors Society. At first I was learning to grow a variety of fruits and vegetables and then determining how to sell them in order to achieve a net profit. Later I studied how to successfully construct a budget for a new mentoring class at our school and this year I have studied the complex theories of economics and management taking place on a worldwide scale. These experiences have built my passion for Applied Economics and Management at Cornell’s College of Agriculture and Sciences. This specific college has the classes and professors that demonstrate the same interests I am looking for in college. Although I have already gained a great amount of business knowledge, my studies have also taught me about the endless approaches and lenses in which you can view a business problem. Whether it be to delve into the mind of the consumer and understand what mak...

It is your choice to make something out of yourself in life, or to plan what you will do in life? don’t use “you” Like many children do growing up, I grew up hoping to get famous one day like many children do growing up. My family has been by my side my whole life and they have been trying their best to get me to grow up to be a successful Christian man and not to follow the crowd and do bad like how the world is trying to make us. They have been struggling to help me and my brothers to get us to be “good” people. There are many things me and my family want so, if I want to make it all happen I need to work hard for it.
If they gave no aid at all, so the argument goes, they could find enough outstanding, full-paying students to fill their classes without losing academic quality. This argument, we believe, underestimates the interplay between mission and market that has evolved over time for even super-elite private colleges, such as the Ivy League. Many of these institutions were humble-born hundreds of years ago, using aid like any other college to attract students. Today, they could get by without giving such aid, but they likely would not be able to recruit such a range of “interesting” students or produce such a diverse student body, socially and racially, due to societal income stratification. Not offering aid would alienate customers (prospective students including full payers), alumni and other donors—not to speak of existing students, faculty, and public opinion. Aid-supported diversity, in other words, is not just an ideological and educational value; it has become a market asset too. If a highly visible college looked too socially exclusive it would, over the long term, face economic and political scrutiny. In their own way, top colleges are still a part of the market system. With an understanding of the competitive forces at play within the Ivy League, we now examine how firms set
I was assured that I wanted to apply to the University of Wisconsin-Madison when I was researching universities, and saw Wisconsin-Madison was ranked 12th in the nation for its economics program by U.S. News. I also found on U.S. News that Economics was one of Wisconsin-Madison's most popular degrees. Economics has been a major passion of mine for quite some time, and I know I want to study the distribution of resources in my college career.
In the first chapter of the book, it stated that Economics can explain “some of everything”, because Economics defines our subject in terms of its theoretical approach, rather than its subject matter. As I read the sentence, I could feel the subject would provide the answer of the question that I was looking for. The interest in the Economics and Finance lead me to dream about studying in Hong Kong. Historically, Hong Kong was the central herb of trade in Asia, and the legacy of British imperialism made Hong Kong to one of the most lively city in the world. This factor let me to think that Hong Kong is the most suitable place to study Economics or Business management, because study in Hong Kong will definitely provide me a great scope to study the
