Advertisements play a major role in what society purchases, strives for, and decides to stand for. In December 2005 the Union of the Finnish Feminists published an image displaying an anti-human trafficking message. By taking a glance at the image, we must notice the bland and seemingly odd interpretation of abused women. The advertisement certainly provokes a range of reactions from the viewers, and one of those being guilt. Viewers may interpret the image of “Fresh Meat” and feel led to help the cause. In the graphics of the image published by the Union of the Finnish Feminists , the first thing the viewers may notice would most likely be the women squeezed into a meat cooler. They are in a meat store that seems to be empty besides the women and the customer. The background of the store is washed out and bland possibly representing the true emotion of the women; incapacitated and hopeless. The women have lost hope in a savior, while we live fully aware of what they are experiencing, while we live fully capable of at least trying to save them. Their cold bodies pressed against one another with the coldness filling the cooler represents the loss of life they may be experiencing. The paleness of their kin shows the viewer the emptiness that resides within them. By viewing the image, we must notice the abandonment and defeat in their body language. They see the people pass by daily, and lose hope that they could ever be saved. The photographer captures the true emotions of these individuals, and provokes feelings of pity from the viewers. After being exposed to the feelings of the victims of human trafficking, by viewing this image, we are now aware of the damaging effects and the severity the outbreak has become.
