Why should I go to college? That is a question that many people all over the US are asking themselves right now. Why waste four years of your life to go do the one thing that you have been waiting twelve years to get out of? In fact, there are a lot of reasons to go to college. College is one of the most important personal investments someone make. College has numerous benefits. Want a better job? Go to college. Want to make more money? Go to college. Want better benefits? Go to college. College is also beneficial in many more ways than just academic. Want to be a healthier, more active person? Go to college. Want to be more mature? Go to college. Get the gist? Yes the price tag looks like a ripoff. Yes it will be hard to graduate. Many long hours of studying and doing homework. The rewards of it though, should certainly cover the high price tag, and your precious brainpower, even if it is just for the experience. The extra money that can be made with a college degree will cover the cost tenfold, and the experience will make you a much healthier, more mature person. It becomes clear that the question isn't why go to college. The real question is why not?

First, the higher level of education will provide a better job which ultimately means more money. This is money that you could use to enjoy life, go on trips, buy a nice house, buy a nice car, anything that can be thought of. This money can be used to cover the rather steep price tag that the whole “college experience” comes with. This extra money can also be used by those who are in poverty to help dig themselves out. “The median weekly earnings for someone with some college but no degree was seven hundred and twelve dollars, compared to one thousand thirty eight dollars for a college graduate.”(Rotherham 80). That's over three hundred dollars more than the person without a college degree. This may not seem like much, but then calculate in bills and such, that three hundred starts to look better and better. However, the amount of money that a college graduate makes won't matter if they can't get a job. College graduates also tend to get jobs easier in the first place. The amount of money that is made annually won't matter if they can't get a job. “Unemployment rates were nine point two percent for those with only some college and more than ten percent for those with just a high school diploma.” (Rotherham 80) That is about a one percent increase. Again that may not seem like much, but that's a lot of people considering the size of the population. This statistic is also based on people with college experience but no degree and people with only a high school degree. Even the people who did not graduate have a higher employment rate than someone with just a high school diploma. College not only is able to improve paychecks but can help with maturity and responsibility.
The second reason college is so valuable is that college can help you develop as a person and help you get better habits.The constant studying for tests and having to remember assignments helps make people more responsible and improves their work ethic. “College helps students develop into mature, responsible, and independent adults.” (College:What it's all about and why it matters). College students tend to also be more concerned with their health and thus are often more fit. They also tend to maintain that fitness after college. College students are more positive and have better outlook on life. It's probably because they make so much money. To sum up, college will make you a better person, but it can also help in other ways, like maturity and professionalism.
The third reason college is a good idea is that it helps students grow up and prepares them for our modern, ever-changing world.

All of the experiences that college brings are designed to shape students as people to make them more proactive members of the modern society. In other words, college is where kids are made into men and women. In many ways it's also a trial by fire to see who has the right focus to make it through. These trials, scary as they may seem, all shape the graduates of today. Well the graduates anyways. “It forces you to grow up. It's just all about learning how to live on your own. I matured a ton and I still mature every day” (Paoli). College gives students the resources they need to survive in the modern world and so much

more.
Many people say that college isn't the right choice. They say it's too expensive or too hard to find a job to make college worth it. They are wrong for obvious reasons. College is definitely the right choice for anyone who wants to get anywhere in life. It provides the skills necessary to survive in the modern world, it pays, and it creates better, more focused people. The few drawbacks don’t outweigh the benefits. Why not go to college? You should. There should be nothing holding you back, and it doesn't matter how old you are. Apply for college today. The real question isn't why. It’s why not?
