In the 1920’s and 1930’s, America experienced many hardships, such as the Great Depression which is referred to by the U.S. Federal Reserves as “the longest and deepest depression of the 20th century”. Also occurring at this time was World War II, a war that affected the U.S. people at home, started by an attack on Pearl Harbor which resulted in 2,335 American workmen to be killed, it ended with two atomic bombs that will forever be remembered for its devastating power and historic meaning, all of this would have crippled a country, but America did not because of the extraordinary leadership of the 32nd president of the United States. During the 1920’s and 1930’s, America withstood many setbacks, nevertheless due to Franklin D. Roosevelt, a man of many words, not just made our country survive, but he helped mold our country into what it is today.
Born in early 1882, Roosevelt’s childhood was filled with many privileges; his family was very much into politics, many family members were wealthy. Among his privileges, was the opportunity to attend the best of schools; at school the head master always encouraged Roosevelt to help poor stricken people and to enter public service. The Roosevelt family was heavily Democratic and while attending Groton School in Massachusetts, Franklin Roosevelt was the only democrat in the class. He attended Harvard University, were Roosevelt earned his role as an “Average Student”. Theodore Roosevelt, the cousin of Franklin Roosevelt became President, while Franklin was attending Harvard, throughout the rest of Roosevelt’s life, Theodore Roosevelt was considered a role model and hero. Roosevelt also signed the Reorganization Act of 1939, which reorganized the government and gave the three branches of government its own specific role. Franklin D. Roosevelt was one of the few presidents who shaped our country; Roosevelt strived to make this country politically and socially diverse. Thanks to the principles Roosevelt laid out for America, many Americans can get a job regardless of where they come from, and old or disabled Americans can get benefits.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was no ordinary catalyst for change in the 1920’s and 1930’s, he was a warrior, unknown to many, Roosevelt made many key decisions and passed many laws that Americans take advantage of everyday, the 32nd President of America is a true American hero that should never be forgotten.
