Mary Shelley originally named her novel , the main character Victor Frankenstein is inspired by science to create human life. In the Greek myth Prometheus and the fire bringer, Prometheus wants to help humankind by creating fire.Both Prometheus and Victor put lives in danger by their creations. However, both Prometheus and Victor have their differences. In the story Prometheus and the Fire Bringer, Prometheus creates fire to help create humans. Victor created the creature because he was fascinated with the concept of life and death. Mary Shelley believed Frankenstein was the modern Prometheus. However, after analyzing both books, Victor Frankenstein is not the modern Prometheus.

Victor ends up regretting his decision immediately. Victor had dreamed of always created the perfect creature; however, right after creating it he realized this was not the creature he imagine. After seeing the creature, he claims, “Now that I had finished, the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror disgust filled my heart”. (Shelly Page: 35). This shows that Victor was disappointed by the way the creature turned out. To make matters worse, the creature then goes and murders all of his family and loved ones. Victor ends up losing his loved ones and gets very sick. On the other hand, Prometheus knowingly goes against Zeus to give humans fire, but Prometheus is happy despite the consequences which included getting his liver eaten out by an eagle every day. Despite this, Prometheus doesn’t die, because he is immortal. While both characters suffer terrible consequences for their actions, Prometheus was immortal and Victor dies as a result of his actions.
