Should school be four days a week? For a long time, many school systems have worked with a five day school week. Five day school weeks could be a long time for kids and it could lead to stress, more absences, and less attentive students. Few school districts in the country use the obvious solution, which is a four day school week. In my opinion, four days could be the solution to stress, more absences, and less attentive students. Having a four day school week could benefit both teachers and students. It gives more time for teachers to plan lessons and more time for students to relax their brains or finish their work. First of all, four day school weeks could lead to improvement in a student’s grades and test scores. Four day school weeks could lead to less stress which could help students study better and be more attentive when lessons are being taught. The solution could be a four day school week which could decrease the number of days and lessons a student misses. For example, neatoday.org says, “Absences are down, and gone is the “Friday slump.” They also tell us, “Myers says her students seemed to know that their attention is vital to getting through lessons.” Absences could be a big deal in a child’s education and productivity in learning. If a student misses a lesson, they could have a hard time learning about it the day they return. Which could lead to a bad grade on an assignment about that
...on what they have learned by attending more days in school but not getting burned out on a traditional nine month school schedule. A few short breaks allows the mind to rest but not forget everything they have worked hard to achieve educational greatness. American society will achieve great things if the education system takes a step in all schools operating on a year round calendar.
Four-day weeks are a blessing from Jesus, at least back when I went to my Christian private school. All jokes aside, I loved those four day weekends, as they saved the school money, allowed me to relax, and let me finish my homework. Three-day weekends cooled everything off and helped me to be ready and refreshed to go back to school. Now that I am back in public school, this nice comfort no longer exists. This is why I would love to have a four-day week again, to have everything better in general.
Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to a four-day school week as it will lead to a saving of money, better in-depth interaction, and finally more family, friend, and work time. There are currently a number of schools who have made the brave move by switching from a five day school schedule to a four day schedule. In fact, The Education Commission has estimated that hundreds of districts in 17 states have made the transition. Also, there are state officials present within Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and Oregon and all have reported increases in the four-day schedule. It is a movement that grows by the month and is the way forward in education. Colby Public Schools absolutely should transition
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.
School provides a lot of work. There are eight total classes in a semester, and sometimes it can be hard to keep up with everything that school asks of its students. Because of all the work, students tend to ignore the requirements school has. (For example, students will ignore due dates or study suggestions.) However, taking Fridays off (and replacing the days with extra weeks of school) will provide success for the students.
According to some school districts, "teachers and student absences have decreased with the four-day school week. The reason for the decrease in teachers and students' absences is logical because that one extra day will help them finish what they need to in the right amount of time. Another issue that can be prevented with a four day of school is the increasing drop out rate and disciplinary referrals in high school. Having disciplinary referrals can cause a bad impression on teachers and colleges.
Have you ever felt like weekends go by too fast? Do you become tired of going to school five times a week?School can be exhausting and it often seems as though it is not worth the trouble. This is especially true when school is dragged on for five days at a time with only small breaks in between the next school week. Although a four-day school week may not sound appealing, students and teachers at Sturgis Williams Middle School could greatly benefit from it.
Every summer children lose valuable information. When school is back in session, students spend months trying to recall everything that was forgotten over those few weeks off. The arrangement of days in the academic year does play a role on how students perform in school, but not so much on the expenses. Therefore, schools should implement Year-Round education because it more affordable and is better for the children in the long run.
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
School can be known as a dreadful reality of everyday life for a countless number of people. Students and teachers all over the country are constantly looking forward to the next day off of school. Often times students find every excuse to miss school, even if it’s just for a couple of hours. Having to go to school five days in a row with only a two day break is a lot to handle for most people. Many schools are converting from a five-day school week to a four-day school week for many different reasons. Colby Public Schools needs to implement a four day school week because it helps lower the stress levels of students and teachers, improves overall attendance, and saves excess amounts of money.
Having a four-day school week is an ambitious proposal intended to help students work their way through. Those in favor of this shift believe that it will allow for more study time, and more time to go over the lessons for the week. Truthfully, it will just add time onto the eight-hour school day a student already endures. As much as officials want to believe that a four-day week would provide more time to focus on the lesson, it would only make students more exhausted. Kathleen Kingsbury reveals that “Parents also worry their children won’t have the time – or the energy – for after-school activities.”
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
There are multiple causes when it comes to stressed out students. First consider where the pressure is coming from for students to get good grades. Parents and teachers tend to be the main suspects. Some students see a bad grade as them failing their parents because their parents believe in them so much (Weissbourd, 2011). Teachers have multiple reasons why they want to see their ...
