Battle of Fort Washington New York(November 16-18, 1776) This battle took place in Manhattan and was commanded by Colonel Robert Mcgaw. The fort had 8,000 soldiers and held as much as 34 guns, 43 cannons, and important resources. On November 16, three British ships holding 3,000 men all together sailed up the Hudson and shot open fire at the fort. Finally, on November 18, the British successfully captured 3,000 of American soldiers and took all of the supplies/artillery. This was a very important battle for the British who gained tons of artillery and resources while holding a strong position in New York. Six British ships were directly damaged by the cannons and artillery. The battle lasted for a little over a month until the British finally took hold of the fort and forced the Americans out. Although the Americans lost the battle, they did a lot of damage on the British. The Battle at Hobkirk's Hill Camden, South Carolina(April 25, 1781) Greene had placed his men on Hobkirks hill in Camden, South Carolina which acted as a staging point for an attack on Camden. Lord Rowden was the first one to start attacking the American position. Some of the American soldiers started to run off which caused the defensive line to weaken in position. Greene then decided to attack offensively on the British which at a point almost had a victory. The British had heard of Lafayette’s plan and intended on a surprise attack on the Americans to trap them by a river. Lafayette then hears about the British’s surprise attack plan and asks the Oneida indians to help defend a local church for the French and American soldiers. The Oneida Indians stall time on Barren Hill so Lafayette could get away safely. In the end, Lafayette got away with three casualties. Battle of Ramsour’s Mill, North Carolina (August 20,1780) General Griffith Rutherford led only 400 Patriots, who were poorly equipped, up against about 1,300 tories. The two hour battle took place at Ramsour's Mill. Some Patriot soldiers had to even fight with their own hands because there was a lack of weapons. Although the Patriots were outnumbered about three to one, they still succeeded in winning the battle. After the battle, they ended up burying the 70 Patriots and Loyalists who had died in a mass
