A family is the most important primary group in a society. As for most of the people, the first group of people they will meet and communicate with is the family members. The family is considered as the agency of primary socialization in most of the societies. A strong family system always provides mentally, emotional support, and healthy physical grow to every individual member of the family. Families are contrasted in size and structures across different cultures.
There are two major forms of family in the society. The first form of the family is the nuclear families. A nuclear family is formed with a married couple and their unmarried children living together. This form of family is the most prevalent form of family in the society in this era. Besides that, there is another type of family which is extended family. Extended family is a family in which relatives such as grandparents, aunts, or uncles live in the same house as parents and their children. This type of family is not common, yet it still exists in the society. …show more content…

There are three types of major authority patterns in the society which are patriarchy, matriarchy, and egalitarian family. Patriarchy family is the family which males dominate in most of the family decisions. For matriarchy family, females are the ones who have greater authority than men. For the egalitarian family, spouses are regarded as equal.
In the past, the concept of a family was very different from now. The shape of the family has been facing numerous changes today and it will be changing continuously for the next few years. First and foremost, the first future family trend is the growing trend towards nuclear family and small family.
