2014 Forest Hills Drive is a hip-hop album by artist J. Cole. The album itself is not just an album that talks about whatever, this is an album that discusses an almost life story of coming together as a man and his dealings with fame and fortune. The album discusses many other things as well as social issues in our everyday life, and him losing his virginity as well. 2014 Forest Hills Drive flow of this album is at an all-time high the way it starts from the first song “January 28th”, which is J. Cole’s birthday. The way he presents the song is like a prequel to the whole album, kind of reminding everyone who he is before he takes us down a journey of his early years and later on. “The real is back, the ville is back”,(Cole). This song doesn’t really tell a story point blank it is more of like just a reminder of who he is and what he will deliver. Then the next song “Wet Dreamz” tells a great story of him losing his virginity and the struggle of having to be a pro with the girl he is with, “I wrote back and said, ‘Of course I had sex before,’ knowin I was frontin, I said, ‘I’m like a pro baby knowin I was stuntin,”,(Cole). The flow is of the song is good from him meeting the …show more content…
“G.O.M.D” which stands for (Get Off My Dick), is really for the people that always be getting on his nerves in Hollywood and “No Role Modelz” is him having the feeling the only females that are are out there are reality tv girls or strippers. He then tells the story of him meeting a girl but she got a kid in the song “Hello” and him not really feeling that because he can barely take care of himself. The last two songs are kind of a combination of motivation and thanks for what he has become with “Apparently” and “Love Yourz”. The first song is him thanking his mama for always believing in him. And “Love Yourz” is a song that makes you want to count your blessings and be thankful for the people in your
The second song, Change, also shows the problem with systematic oppression. J. Cole recounts the time that he saw his friend get shot. This is the main point of the whole album and the song revolves around the tale of this friend who is killed. The last song, 4 Your Eyez Only, brings everything back together and tells the full narrative of his friend’s unfortunate fate. While attacking the life that many people glorify and empathizing with those who are stuck in this life, J Cole closes out his fourth album on a hopeful note. Using the perspective of his deceased friend, he writes a song (the actual album), for his daughter, condemning all that is bad and hoping for her to grow into a somebody. In a heart touching verse the father states “Maybe you hate me, maybe you miss me, maybe you spite
The relevance of the song was portraying that using drugs and alcohol will help you escape life situations. Regardless of how hard or tough it is. All you need to do is to get drunk or get high, than your problems will flush away. But the video don’t explain the reality of the outcome of how drugs and alcohol will or could affect your lifestyle and how it could lead you to lose your job, family and life. All it shows is the fun side of being intoxicated. Which, it raises a big flag on kids or teens that do have access to the media like the

This is a very emotional song because it is a tribute to the late Paul Walker. It is especially emotional if you have seen the movies or are a fan of Paul. However it is still evocative even if you have never seen Paul Walker before because of how the video is formatted. The director uses cars as an rhetorical tool in the video because Paul was most known for his role in the Fast and Furious series, and he was killed in a car crash because he was speeding. The cars in the video help remind us that he died doing what he loved and that even though he left this world to early he was most likely enjoying himself in the moments before his death.

While examining his lyrics further, the first eye opener is "I really think the war on terror is a bunch of bullshit." (Fiasco) In this instance, Fiasco was talking about the Vietnam war. It came with great controversy since many Americans believe this fight was pointless, as it came with no gain to the U.S. This civil war came with a great cost, accordingly "economists report the Vietnam War cost the U.S. $111 billion during war time, which calculates to $738 billion by 2011 standards." He embarks on the road of trials and difficulties when he’s in Sweden. He is again faced with the issue of career vs. family, seeing Hailie as the platonic ideal Archetype he goes through the difficulties of abandoning his children and he hurt his wife shown by Hailie saying “You lied to me dad and now you made mommy sad… But baby wait”. It shows Eminem gaining inspiration from Hailie because he now fully realises the consequences of his actions. Furthermore, she talks about her mother who is not present throughout the video showing the lack of mother archetype making Eminem’s quest to become a better father more important. Additionally, within her monologue she references Slim Shady again when she says, “they keep screaming your name, and it’s the one you can’t go to sleep. Just take another pill yeah bet you, you will, you rap about it, yeah word keep keep it real” Showing now he has truly hit rock bottom as he has fully become Slim shown by Hailie saying “Yeah word keep keep it real” as Slim has become his reality. The show ends and he goes backstage where he sees in the mirror, Hailie and Kim dressed in all white, this is representative of the blessing archetype shown by their white clothes and importance in his life. “Lonely” is one of those songs you need when you just went though a break up. It 's the sad or negative part of love. He has so many emotions in this song like, regret, sadness, and compassion. I picked this song because I think it shows a great part of love, the part when you realize what you had but not that thing is gone. A lot of people take love for granted and don 't realize what other do for them until those people leave. It shows how selfish love can be at time’s. This is one of the worst things about love is having your heart broken into a million pieces. One of the most painful things I have ever experienced. The song is very popular though because
