By having a detailed, concise research question, it will help me with explaining the significance, as well as the approach that I take and the audience that I plan on targeting. As said previously, I believe if I can reach a wider audience especially individuals from all walks of life it will help with them really paying attention to the types of food and also the amount that is consumed. To ensure this, the ethnographic and cast study approach are both key, by casting a larger net for information it will help with more descriptive results.

I decided to use the book ‘Hungry Planet: What the World Eats’ (Menzel and D'Aluisio, 2005) as a stimulus for my planning. The book includes pictures and information about different families and foods from around the world. As I wanted the plans to build upon the children’s enquiry based learning, I felt that ‘World foods’ would be an interesting topic for them to explore. Although food can be a sensitive topic, through my experience in various schools, I know that year 6 children will be able to build on their prior knowledge and understand values, beliefs and misconceptions. This topic will also develop their curiosity and support the children in making sense of the real world for themselves through tasks such as food tasting and a visit to the local allotment (Pickford, Garner and Jackson, 2013).
Eating meals together as a family will encourage an environment that not only promotes healthier eating, but also allows time for family, for communication, nurturing family traditions, and their children learn life skills (Kaakinen et al., 2015). I will assist and encourage this family to find the time to shop, prepare, and eat together meals that are nutritious as well as healthy. Information and guidance would be provided to help the family understand the daily nutritional requirements of not only themselves, but also for their children. This family would need to take the initiative to learn the nutritional contents of food and be able to incorporate it into meals that provide these daily requirements. Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
Processed food should be banned from school meals due to increasing health issues in children, increasing academic deficiency and increasing production cost of processed foods. There are people who would oppose this idea due to population growth and an increasing food demand. However, this escalating demand for food is forcing the food industry and other government agencies to resolve the current hunger and lack of resources issues, by hiring processing factories and private companies to manufacture processed foods. The greater part of school age children consume processed foods on a daily basis. The purpose of this study is to examine what are processed foods?
In this task I had to record what I ate and the amounts of each serving over three consecutive days during the week. This tasks aim was to get us to be aware of what we are eating and what we should change in our diet to be as healthy as we possibly can be. Having a healthy weight can reduce risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. 21-25% of Australia’s adolescents are overweight or obese and 2-5% are underweight. (2007 ANCN Survey) This report is to support the aim as it will include how well I have done fulfilling each food group throughout the three days. Instead of a food pyramid, which is what is usually referred to, the new way of measuring these is in a pi graph on a plate as it is more accurate and also easier to determine how much you should eat of each food group compared to the others. There are six food groups all together, all with important roles to the human body. I will be comparing my intake to the latest Australian Dietary Guidelines to see how healthy my daily diet is.
