Food and power, two essentially unrelated yet necessary concepts. Food is something we need to survive, a person relies on food in order to maintain their health, but food can sometimes become abused and not only eaten to stay healthy. The food we eat and the way it is made and preserved also plays a large role in the overall “health” of the food we eat. Power is the ability to control someone or something. Power is something held by leaders such as, the police, the president, and even teachers. Power is very important to maintain a hierarchy and it is even more important to make sure that power isn’t being misused or unfairly received. The question is, how do food and power relate? These large corporations send millions of products out to stores all over the country every day and it is all processed, vacuum sealed, products that are beginning to seem less and less like food. The article claims that since the 1950s the food industry has been using science and technology to make food “bigger, faster, badder, and cheaper.” I would agree that it seems that everything many of these industrys do it for their own benefit and it seems as if they are more concerned with making money than creating healthy foods for our nutrition’s …show more content…

It tells about how difficult producing products like butter is because they’re trying to make the product wholesum and overall fairly organic. This talks about how these “butter dispenser” are contributing to moving this product, not only around the United States, but also around the world. Although this was written over a hundred years ago it still proves relevant today in the fact that these businesses still have middle-men to participate in different parts in making the butter. It reflects on practices that are still used today and it holds information still pertinent to the production and movement of food products
