Everyone goes through different experiences in life, just as everyone has different types of intelligences and skills. In total there are nine types of intelligences but there is only 2 listed using 3 paragraphs. These examples come from “Flowers for Algernon” or “Dakota Fullest Earns Nation’s Highest Folk Honor”. Some ways in which people demonstrate their knowledge and skill is through Howard Gardner’s Logical/ Mathematical , Bodily/ Kinesthetic , and Intrapersonal intelligences. One way that people demonstrate their intellectual abilities is through the Logical/Mathematical intelligence. For example in “Flowers for Algernon” Charlie understood and was fascinated by the Calculus of Intelligence. This evidence demonstrates that Charlie understands what the “Calculus of Intelligence” means. He did research on it and was fascinated by it.Another example from Flowers for Algernon, Charlie realizes that the experiment he took part in was a failure. Dakota carved his first flute when he was 59 only using a pocketknife.This evidence demonstrates that he can use his hands to create things. Things such as flutes that not only need your hands but your brain too. Howard Gardner grew up in Pennsylvania in the late 1940’s, although his parents were originally from Germany. He attended Harvard as an undergraduate with the hopes of becoming a lawyer and with a major in history. However, as soon as he became the mentee of Erik Erikson, a well-known psychoanalyst, his interests started to change. Gardner entered the doctoral program at Harvard and received his PhD in 1971 with a dissertation on style sensitivity in children. During his years of doctoral study he became a part of the Project Zero, which does research on arts education, and he now co-directs the project. According to Howard Gardner (1991), every individual is born with a certain intelligence or potential intelligence. It is unfair to teach and/or assess an individual with a standard guideline or benchmark. The definition of intelligence that is explained in the book is having certain attributes that help you become a stronger individual. The qualities are having honesty, ethics morals and compassion. One has to achieve this intelligence thoughtlessly; Charlie shows this before he has his operation. By reaching this type of intelligence a person does not have to have a lot knowledge or a high I.Q, but you may reach peace in life by being a spiritually kind person that is previously show in the abstract definition.
Howard Gardner’s theory contains eight main multiple intelligence. As the years have progressed there have taken one out and is left with the main seven. These seven are: Linguistic, Mathematical, Spatial, bodily, Musical, Interpersonal, and Intrapersonal. These are found in everyone; however, each person will excel in one or two. Once teachers can determine what intelligence the students will exceed on and teach to their strengths the student will learn much more.
In the story "Flowers for Algernon", the main character, Charlie Gordon is a mentally retarded 37 year-old man with an IQ of sixty-eight. Although he might not have been smart, I believe that Charlie was the definition of happiness. He worked happily as a janitor, was motivated to learn, and had a great time with his so called ?friends.? After Charlie undergoes an experiment that triples his IQ, his life changes for the worse. With intelligence does not come happiness.
Many popular novels are often converted into television movies. The brilliant fiction novel, Flowers for Algernon written by Daniel Keyes, was developed into a dramatic television film. Flowers for Algernon is about a mentally retarded man who is given the opportunity to become intelligent through the advancements of medical science. Their fight for higher wages, better working conditions, and the right to unionize. It is based on the “Justice for Janitors” movement of the Service Employees International Union. The main dispute is that these people who are working at low wages, without insurance, vacation, and in bad working conditions are mainly Hispanic.
In the story flowers for Algernon the research started with the ideas and interests of the two doctors. Both wanted help this guy named Charlie, at least that’s what we thought . Dr. Nemur the head of the operation and Dr. Strauss the one that gave Charlie the intelligence that they will later on regret. Surprisingly the two will have a reaction to Charlie’s growth, approach to science, and humanity. Dr. Nemur is the doctor in charge of the experiment which boosted Charlie’s intelligence.

In Flowers from Another World from a gendered aspect reveals the fact that the three leading female characters -- Marirrosi, Milady and Patricia are properties in the eyes of their male lovers. From the start of the film this is made obvious. It is the men who invite the women to come to town to conduct what may be considered a commercial transaction, the men who parade them as if they were cows at a country fair, and most importantly, the men who have the power to get rid of them if they don't like the product. Gardner believes that there are eight different intelligences in humans. Understanding these intelligence’s will help us to design our classroom and curriculum in a way that will appeal to all of our students. We might also be able to curve discipline problems by reaching a student in a different way. One that will make more sense to them and more enjoyable. We can include all of the intelligences in lessons to accommodate all of the students’ different learning styles at once. By reaching each students intelligence we can assume that a student will perform better which, could mean students retaining more important information. A students learning style can also help lead them into a more appropriate career direction. As a teacher you can also learn your own personal learning style or intelligence to help improve the way you learn and teach.
