Fire, Fire! Don't worry, the hero’s are to the rescue. A student who researches the nature of a job, its working conditions, employment facts, the education and training requirements, along with the future job potential and earnings will be wiser and more knowledgeable when determining a career path to choose. Becoming a firefighter is an interesting career path because they save lives, people’s dreams, and firefighters are admired as heroes. First off, the nature of the work and the working conditions vary a lot. The major duties are, Putting out fires and saving lives (SDmylife.com). When doing that fire fighters working conditions are lots of them. They have to go out is any weather and have to work really irregular hours (SDmylife.com). Typical hours for a fire fighter is a 24 our shift (SDmylife.com). Workplace environment: They have to live at the fire station while on duty (SDmylife.com). A fire fighter needs a high school diploma, and two years of college training if they want to be highly ranked. No previous work experience is required but training is. Trainings is typically 4-6 weeks to complete 600 hours of training (SDmylife.com). They need to be able to compute accurately because they have to know how to put the fire out the fastest. They need to think fast, thinking logically is a big skill in this profession. “Some firefighters have to make big decisions in crucial moments” (SDmylife.com). They also have to pick up on things quickly. fire fighters can’t do their job by themselves. It takes a team and they need to work together to accomplish their tasks.
