What are the financial obstacles you have had to overcome to attend DigiPen? Came from a poorer background. Have to fly across the country. Finding somewhere to live. The biggest financial obstacle I’ve had to overcome to attend DigiPen was moving to Washington. I come from a lower-middle class background, and I’m from the East Coast, so flying back and forth can be quite expensive. I limit the time I fly back home to winter break and summer break, so I can only see my family twice a year. Finding an apartment at first was difficult, but since I share an apartment with three other roommates, it has significantly helped save money in the long run. Coming to DigiPen has been a financial burden, but overcoming these obstacles has helped me grow as a person, and the education I’ve gained here cannot be compared. …show more content…

Fafsa loans and grants. Frugal spending and saving. Live with 4 roommates. TA job. Every year I fill out the FAFSA in order to apply for loans and grants. I save the excess money from my financial aid for rent payments and grocery shopping. This is easier in the Fall semester because I will get another loan payment in the Spring, but over the Summer I am not given any loans, so I try to spend Summers as frugally as possible. To save cost on rent, I share a two-bedroom apartment with three other people. We divide the rent and the groceries evenly to save costs. A step I have taken recently is working jobs at DigiPen. My school schedule doesn’t usually allow enough time for me to find a part-time job, but I have recently started being a TA for GAT261. This way, I can earn money in a time slot that works for my schedule and helps me to learn more about what I’m passionate at. Explain why maintaining academic success is important to you. While doing well in my classes means that I’m being successful in my academic path, it also means that I’m continuing to learn new things about game development. I want to learn as much as possible about making games before I graduate and head out into the industry. Not only that, but I want to take this time to grow as a person. Every year at DigiPen teaches me something new about time management or becoming a harder worker. These improvements that I make show in my projects. The more I learn, the better the games I make become, thus helping me to make portfolio pieces rather than just projects for a grade. I want to continue to maintain academic success so that I can continue to grow into the developer I want to be.

Most financial aid is provided on a first-come, first-served basis, and students are encouraged to prepare and submit a FAFSA on the day it opens, January 1 of each year, using income estimates to be updated after taxes are
