Victoria and Abdul There are very few films that can claim to be a Biographical Comedy-Drama, but the movie Victoria and Abdul is one movie that can claim all three of those titles. The movie, directed by Stephen Frears, stars Judi Dench as Queen Victoria and Ali Fazal as Abdul Karim and was released on September 15, 2017. The Screenplay written by Lee Hall is based on the book, Victoria and Abdul :The True Story of The Queens Closest Confidant, by Shrabani Basu. The movie begins with the opening line , "Based on true events.... mostly". It is a very touching story of a very unlikely friendship between the Monarch of England and a Clerk from India. Abdul and his companion Mohammed, played by Adeel Akhtar, have come to England to present the Queen a coin for her Golden Jubilee. The pair are given strict instructions to not make eye contact with …show more content…
Her ability to transition from comedy to drama is simply outstanding. One of the best comedic scenes in the movie takes place during the dinner scene, in which Victoria devours her dinner quickly and not to neatly, in order to just get it over with (11:45). Dench does a remarkable job of showing such a complete lack of regality and etiquette that the audience can't help but laugh at this Queen and her disdain for all of the pomp and circumstance associated with her royal duties. Shifting from comedy to drama, Dench also provided a very moving scene in which she shares with Abdul the lonliness of being the Queen, "I'm so lonely, everyone I really loved has died and I just go on and on." (37:08) The expression and tone in which this line is delivered truly tugs at the heart of the audience and provides a deeper understanding into just how lonely Victoria is. I agree with the review posted in Reelviews ,by James Berardinelli, in which he states, "Dench’s portrayal is, hands-down, the best thing about Stephen Frears’
The film Jindabyne, is a story about death, marriage, and race in an Australian town in New South Wales called Jindabyne. In the film, four men go fishing, and one of them discovers the dead body of a young indigenous girl. Instead of reporting what they found to the police immediately, they decide to stay and continue fishing. They decide that there is nothing they could do for her, so they tie her legs to a tree and continue with their fishing, reporting the death only when they return home. After they are done with their weekend of fishing and report the incident, conflict starts, as the men are criticized for not respecting the dead. Through the story of the town’s reaction to the four fishermen’s response to the dead girl, the movie shows Australia to be fragmented and divided over white-indigenous relations.
but she was also very keen to play Mrs. Lyons as she had never played

Murderball successfully conveys the emotion and mentality of people with disability. In this movie, Mark Zupan and Joe Soares prove that disability may put them at a disadvantage, but as long as they have a will they can make something out of their life. Their competition is a huge indicator of their mentality of not giving up. However, there are some contradiction to how actors are portrayed. In the beginning Zupan is referred as an “asshole” and a “jock” by his friends, but later he is seen attaching to Keith Cavill- a new quadriplegic patient who is in denial of the accident- at emotional level and giving him motivation to accept his life and move on. Similarly, Soares behaves like he
poster typically has the white cowboy large, presented front and center, with the antagonists and co-stars all behind him. An iconic western, The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, has a poster picturing the white cowboy alone. Clint Eastwood stands there tall, stoic, and singular. Typical of most other westerns, the white cowboy is the center of attention. Here, however, there are two non-white figures presented: Bart, the Black cowboy, and a large Native American chief. This movie poster has the same style as other westerns with the color and layout, but is unique in the fact that a black man is presented where a white man would normally be dominating. Once again, this makes a statement about racial improvements. Previously having a black man at
The Bad and The Beautiful (1952) and State and Main (2000) are films within films that unmask Hollywood Cinema as a dream factory and expose the grotesque, veneer hidden by the luxury of stars. The Bad and the Beautiful, directed by Vincent Minnelli, is a black and white film narrated in flashback form. The films theatrical nature requires more close-ups than wide-screen shots to capture the character’s psychological turmoil. For example, Fred and Jonathan’s car ride is captured in a close-up to signify their friendship; however their relationship deteriorates after Jonathan’s deceit. While the camera zooms out, Fred stands alone motionless. Here, Fred is captured from a distance at eye-level and he becomes ostracized by the film industry and
is a tale about an unsavory couple inviting another younger couple over for some “fun and games.” The unsavory couple, George and Martha, were played by two of Hollywood’s most famous actors at the time, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. In real life, they were married, and before this film they had done several other pictures together. One of those films was the glamorous Cleopatra. Because of this, the feeling that they were truly married and familiar with one another was present in the film. This casting was a smart choice since they were both experienced, talented, film stars. Their roles in this film were a stark contrast to their roles in previous films, where they played handsome people deeply in love with one another. This contrast helped add to the shock of the overall
Film Analysis of Life Is Beautiful “La vita e Bella” is an Italian film; Roberto Benigni starred as the main character, Guido Orefice, and also directed it. The film was contentious because of the way Benigni presented its content of the Holocaust with an unlikely comic slant. Some people thought that it showed a misrepresentation of the concentration camp, whilst other thought it showed the triumph. However, in March 1999 it was nominated. for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director.

The response that he was given from his children were happy and excited yet slightly confused. His ex-wife was mad, and felt betrayed but over all they had finally came to understand why he did what he did. Maude, played by Ruth Gordon, radiates energy and is plagued with the fear of not living. She also shows a distaste for authority. This is exemplified in nearly every scene, especially the scene with Harold and Maude in the woods. The ambiance feels almost fairy-tale induced. She helps Harold in seeing why life is worth living, as she (and the film) chase their own obsessions, and she is not troubled by what anyone else thinks (much like the film).
