Fidget spinners should be banned in schools because they are a distraction and a toy. It’s more of a distraction than it is about being a stress reliever. The article, “Schools ban fidget toys as classroom distraction” by Kate Thayer states that fidget spinners are being used the wrong way than what they are supposed to. Schools ban them because administration sees that kids use them as a toy and they are a distraction in classes. Kate Ellison, said “Kids are trading them or spinning them instead of writing” (4). As for me, I see kids in school doing the same, playing with them as a toy. Also in the article, a teacher from Queens said “Fidget spinners are being misused by children who don’t know what they’re intended for” (4). Children in school aren’t informed about what fidget …show more content…
spinners are used for. They’re supposed to distract kids from what they’re doing by playing with a fidget spinner. They are supposed to keep yourself busy. Kids usually try to do tricks with fidget spinners.
Kids use them for calming their anxiety, but it doesn’t help at all. Sarah Young fromm Independet.co said, “To me, it’s common sense. If you give somebody a toy or they could be doing classwork, what’s going to be more interesting?” This was from the article, “Fidget Spinners Do Not Help Those with ADHD, Experts Say”.You can think it out that a child would rather play with a toy than doing class work. Myself, personally would rather play with a toy than doing classwork and some students would rather do so. I see a fidget spinner as a way to get out of class work. Also from “Fidget Spinners Do Not Help Those with ADHD, Experts Say”, Scott Kollins, who works as a clinical psychologist and also professor at Duke University said that “It’s important for parents and teachers who work with kids who have ADHD to know that there are very well studied and documented treatments that work, and they’re out there, so there’s not really quick and easy fixes like buying a toy.” There are better solutions to treat a child’s ADHD than buying a toy. The creator of the fidget spinner, Catherine Hettinger, called the fidget spinner a “spinning toy”
(1). The article, “How the fidget spinner origin story spun out of control” never mentioned anything about how the fidget spinner helps with disabilities. Schools should ban fidget spinners because they do not help with disabilities and they are a reason for a child to get out of class work.
Are teachers enforcing discipline mechanisms in a healthy way for children? Researchers would answer no to this question because of one major factor: removing recess from a child’s school day. In Jessica Lahey’s article, “Students Who Lose Recess Are the Ones Who Need It Most”, she states that “schools continue to take away recess privileges as a penalty for academic or behavioral transgressions”. Many teachers follow this procedure because they assume that they are teaching the child how to act with appropriate behaviors. However, it is a proven fact that eliminating a student’s recess results in a negative outcome. Therefore, recess should not be removed from a child’s school day because this recreation plays a role in their physical health,
...HD like the researchers expected, the results from the experiment could still help allow teachers to be more aware of the signs of a boredom prone student. Also, with this new knowledge teachers could try to use more interactive learning systems, and different methods of instruction to students who are more prone to boredom resulting in a rise in course grades and participation. Also, knowing that there was no correlation between having ADHD and doing poorly academically could help bring assurance to students in college who have the disorder, by allowing them to see that it has been tested and ADHD students aren’t any lower in GPA than the average student.
Censorship is the practice of concealing parts of a book, movie, show, or any other form of media. Media can be censored in many ways; one of these is to block out the offensive sections of the content. This is generally done when the content of said media is not considered overall offensive or inappropriate but has derogatory and/or blasphemous language. Another way Media can be censored is to have it banned completely. For a book to be banned, it must first be challenged. According the American Library Association, a challenge “is an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or group.” The question over censorship has been debated for years: Should we be allowed to ban Medias we deem unfit and/or inappropriate from our children?
In her Huffington Post blog article titled Here’s One Way to Wreck a Child’s Education: Take Away Recess, Haley Krischer takes an emboldened stand against the practice of eliminating recess; which is often done as a punishment or to make more time for instructional learning. I stand in agreement with Krischer. I do not agree with schools taking away recess for any reason with the exception of dangerous weather or environmental circumstances. Yet, research indicates how common the 86-ing of recess is occurring in schools. A study by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (2010) revealed 77% of school Principals reported taking away recess as a punishment, and 81.5% of schools allow students to be excluded from recess. Krischer begins the article by introducing her 9 year old son and his affinity for recess: “the only subject he will talk about”. She gives examples of how recess benefits her son such as other students who help him troubleshoot technology issues and challenging him to improve his sports skills. Indeed, the unstructured playtime allows children to explore their environment and develop new ideas and understandings of it and those within it (American Pediatric Association, 2013). Kischer also expressed that children need active play to combat restlessness and that this is especially important for children who may suffer from ADHD, noting that taking away recess as a punishment for misbehavior may be counterproductive and result in increased behavioral problems. A longitudinal study that followed over 10,000 students between the ages of 8 and 9 concluded that student recess of at least 15 minutes resulted in better behavior as rated by teachers (Samuels, 2009).
One reason why fidget spinners shouldn’t be banned because a fidget spinner isn’t a distraction to kids and even adults. In “Should Fidget Spinners Be Allowed at School” it states, “I know some teachers have reported that fidget spinners are relatively quiet. Sometimes kids click their pens over and over or tap their feet when they are trying to concentrate. I find things like that way more distracting than fidget
In “Hooked on ‘Caramel-Colored Gold,” Melody Nelson claims “Despite the increased awareness of the benefits of good nutrition, we are a nation hooked on junk food, and many school administrators are taking advantage of the situation ” (par. 3). Nelson propose a ban on vending machines in schools because junk food is unhealthy for children, and they risk future health problems. I agree with Melody Nelson and believe that vending machines should be banned from school campuses, because they sell unhealthy food, they cause more money to schools for hiring extra custodians, and they are affecting children learning abilities.
Do you know why people bann fidget spinners in school or do you know why people don’t allow kids to own fidget spinners. I am against fidget spinners because many parents well ones that are wusses and some kids but i’m against them because kids get hurt but then once the kids get hurt they learn and won’t do it again but also it’s a distraction and also they can hurt somebody severely if used improperly and it’s a 50% chance to severely hurt somebody. If you don’t know what is a fidget spinner well a fidget spinners are a little handheld object about 2 inches long and they weigh about 2 pounds as well. The people who buy fidget spinners for themselves are probably around the ages of 5-18. The reason fidget spinners were made is that it was supposed to help kids with paying attention. The reason why parents or adults hate the fidget spinners is because the toy that is used for paying attention ends up becoming a distraction. The main thing that is going on with fidget spinners is that they are
Pinball machines robbed the “pockets of school children in the form of nickels & dimes given them as lunch money.” This was spoken by the former mayor of New York, Fiorello La Guardia, who was obviously opposed to pinball (a type of arcade machine). Arcade cabinets have changed drastically since La Guardia’s time, not only in technology, but in successfulness as well.
Happiness is what we all hope for. For ourselves, for our friends, for our children. However, it is not always easy to come by. The Original Fairy Tales by the Grimms’ brothers Joseph Jacobs explores this pursuit of happiness through their character’s stories. Into the Woods, a play by Stephen Sondheim, also delves into the struggle for satisfaction and dreams through the songs sung by the characters.
In conclusion, iPads are detrimental to young children's social skills; cause harm to balance, posture, muscle development and fine motor skills; are liable to cause an addiction in younger children; and slow down the ability to process words and sounds as well as limiting vocabulary. These reasons are concrete proof that children up to the age of seven should not be using devices in a one-on-one environment for the six hours daily that they are at school. As a country, do we want to have our younger generation being dependent on their smartphones, tablets, and internet; or do we want strong leaders who can think for themselves? The choice is yours New Zealand.

One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Electronics are a huge part of our society. “Out of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access to mobile phones” (Wang). Over thousands of these cell phones are owned by students K-12. A major debate topic is should cell phones be allowed in schools? “Twenty-four percent of schools have banned mobile devices altogether and sixty-two percent allow them on school grounds, but not in the classroom” (Raths). Cell phones should not be allowed in school because children focus more on the phone than schoolwork, it will create more drama, and it promotes cheating.
We all know technology is changing everyday. As laptops are becoming more popular in today 's society, especially in a college classroom setting, professors have noticed more and more students with their faces engaged on the computer screen and not the lecture. There have been recent studies that show in classroom use of laptops can affect students and their learning. Should the use of laptops be banned in the classroom?
Technologies like computers or iPads (or anything with internet access for that matter) in the classroom could possibly distract students from their work. Classroom administrators seem to forget that the majority of students really don’t want to be in the classroom.. I remember when I was in highschool, whenever a teacher would bring students into a computer lab, or bring class sets of computers, or bring iPads into the classroom for a lesson a large portion would go onto twitter, or onto any unblocked flash game website whenever the teacher was not looking, try to access anything for them to “escape” the classroom. When there are a large majority of children and/or teens that do not want to go to school, and are given tools to be rebellious so easily, what is going to stop them? Aside, who really wants to sit through the same autonomous paper typing over and over again...
