Fear has had an immense impact on the success of companies in the past: use of fear meant more productivity, which in turn boosted the success and worth of the company. However, recent studies have shown this is not the case. Although fear has had positive impacts on work environments in the past, it is not as effective at boosting employee morale and increasing work productivity now. Fear in the workplace has evolved to become detrimental to workplace productivity and eliminating fear is the best course of action.
Fear, one of the most common workplace stressors, can be detrimental to the health of employees. This deterioration of health of an employee in a company will act as a repellant to future employees, which will create a large strain on money to the company, which in turn will cause emotional problems, such as a low …show more content…

Stress caused by this fear decreases company earnings, which in turn negatively affects the economy. Health-care expenditures are 50% greater for workers who reported high levels of stress. (Source A). Prolonged stress has also been shown to cause an increase in absentees in the workplace as well as a decline in productivity. It is estimated that stress related absences could cost employers approximately $3.5 billion each year to make up for the decrease in productivity and absentees. (Source D). Using this information, one could conclude that fear detriments much more than just the employer and employee. Fear affects the economy as a whole, which in turn affects everyone in some manner. Less fear in workplaces could alleviate strains on the economy while more fear will certainly do the opposite, and will likely increase stress even further. This results in a never-ending loop if the root cause of the problem, fear, is not removed from this cycle. Although this would produce a smaller difference for each company, together these changes create a larger effect as
