Chicana Power is a book written by Maylei Blackwell; the book was published by the University of Texas Press Austin in 2011. It tells the story of the Chicana feminism development. Blackwell does a startling job of placing the Chicana movement into a much bigger context. Not only does she provide what she thinks, but along the books, she includes the stories of others. She talks about the social factors and she also expresses the political factors that helped with the rise of the movement.
In 1776, David McCullough gives a vivid portrayal of the Continental Army from October 1775 through January 1777, with sharp focus on the leadership of America’s greatest hero, George Washington. McCullough’s thesis is that had not the right man (George Washington) been leading the Continental Army in 1776, the American Revolution would have resulted in a vastly different outcome. He supports his argument with a critical analysis of Washington’s leadership during the period from the Siege of Boston, through the disastrous defense of New York City, the desperate yet, well ordered retreat through New Jersey against overwhelming odds, and concludes with the inspiring victories of Trenton and Princeton. By keeping his army intact and persevering through 1776, Washington demonstrated to the British Army that the Continental Army was not simply a gang of rabble, but a viable fighting force. Additionally, Mr. McCullough supports his premise that the key to the survival of the American Revolution was not in the defense of Boston, New York City, or any other vital terrain, but rather the survival of the Continental Army itself. A masterful piece of history, 1776 is not a dry retelling of the Revolutionary War, but a compelling character study of George Washington, as well as his key lieutenants, and his British adversaries, the most powerful Army in the 18th Century world. When I read this book, I went from a casual understanding of the hero George Washington to a more specific understanding of why Washington was quite literally the exact right man at the exact right place and time to enable the birth of the United States.
Rigoberta Menchu, a Quiche Indian woman native to Guatemala, is a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for politically reaching out to her country and her people. In her personal testimony tittled “I, Rigoberta Menchu” we can see how she blossomed into the Nobel Prize winner she is today. Following a great deal in her father’s footsteps, Rigoberta’s mobilization work, both within and outside of Guatemala, led to negotiations between the guerillas and the government and reduced the army power within Guatemala. Her work has helped bring light to the strength of individuals and citizen organization in advocacy and policy dialogue on the world scale. In a brief summary of the book I will explore why Rigoberta Menchu is important to Guatemalan development, what she did, and how she helped her people overcome the obstacles thrown their way.
When I finished this article I started to realize that the life of pioneers was not just one big adventure, but they had to face some really difficult problems like dangerous river crossing, bad weather, different kinds of accidents and diseases along the way without any chance for medical treatment.
2. The title of this book relates to the story, because in the book, Ponyboy and Johnny are “outsiders.” They can be thought of as Outsiders because they are labeled Greasers although they do not act like hoodlums, like the rest of the Greasers. They are thought of as Greasers just because they live on the East Side of town, and because they slick back their hair. But Ponyboy and Johnny are different then all of the other Greasers because they show their emotions, and are sensitive.

But suddenly, when his trip is led off the beaten path, he ends up meeting another girl named Fatima. He explains his love to Fatima on the second day that he sees her by saying, “I want you to be my wife. I love you.” (95). After this we don't hear another reference about the merchant's daughter. However, this encounter may not be so odd. Since he met Fatima in an oasis at the well there is water around them. He has entered a rebirth or baptism and his view and outlooks have changed. He soon forgets about the other woman and has his mind set on this woman. Since water is involved it is baptism, as Foster would say in his, “If She Comes Up it’s Baptism” chapter. He uses the example of, “A young man sails away from his known world, dies out of one existence, and comes back a new person, hence is reborn”(155). This quote perfectly describes how Santiago's views changed in the sense that he jumped out of his shepherd, merchant's daughter life and into the quest seeking, Fatima

Ghada is born near the beginning of the conflict in Palestine, which eventually forces her family to move to Syria and then to England. Even before the violence begins, Ghada’s childhood is not easy—due to her frequently absent mother, she often turns to her family’s servant, Fatima, for stability and guidance. The conflict, however, quickly turns their beloved home into an unrecognizable place, and for safety reasons, they must flee.
