In middle school, senior year, I had made a huge decision that changed my life. I chose High School of Fashion Industries as my first choice, but I wasn’t prepared for what would happen in this school. In addition, if I go to this school, I would be alone since my friends all apply for specialized high school. I’m skeptical about should I choose Fashion High School or stay with my friends in the specialized high schools. After a deep conversation with my parents, I decide to apply for High School of Fashion Industries because I want to major in fashion. I’m sure I won’t regret this school since it was my dream to become a fashion designer and this school would get me the skills and experiences to bring my dream into reality. Therefore, I’m …show more content…
Throughout the school years, I learned how to design, construct and sew the garment and all the basics that are needed to be in this fashion field. It’s a wonderful experience to be in this school and one of my most unforgettable experience in being in Anti-Prom. Anti-Prom is a project funded by the New York Public Library. The library sponsors us so we can design an outfit and buy the materials needed to construct the garment for the fashion show. The theme for the fashion was god and goddesses which was difficult for me since I have so many ideas and don’t know which one to choose. In the end, I chose goddess of love from the inspiration of goldfish and roses. I clearly illustrate the dress to visual how it would look when it's sewing and ready for the runway. However, the process of constructing it wasn’t as easy as how I think it would be when I draw it. It took weeks of hardship and sweat to finish the garment, but the outcome proves that these weeks weren’t a waste. The garment came out beautifully and made me proud when it was shown in the fashion show with the model wearing the garment. The teachers and sponsors were proud of me and I know that the hardship worths it. This experience made me grow to become a fashion designer and expose me to the fashion
The dress was adorned with ruffles all the way around the top of the sweet-heart neckline and sleeves, and also all along the bottom. The garment also had multiple layers. One layer was of a lavender color. There was also a layer on top of that, which was made of a more sheer-material and had stripes of off-white and lavender. This second layer was subtle enough to add shiny detail, without taking away from the beautiful purple color. The dress also had a sash of the second layer’s same material, around the waist. My garment was rich in
Throughout history, there were many things that influenced fashion and the ideal body image of the time. Things such as politics, and changes in social roles were some things that had an influence on the fashion of the day. One particular shocking thing that had influenced on the fashion around the 1800s were sickness and diseases. Not only were diseases and sickness caused by different fashion trends, but it set the tone for certain ideal body images and also influenced the fashion of the time.
The 1920’s was an era of dramatic political and cultural change, where many Americans lived in cities rather than farms. Many inventors came to be noticed as new cars were invented and as music entered the entertainment industry. A new style of music was invented mainly in the African American community, creating the Harlem Renaissance; which was an evolution of music and entertainment in Harlem, New York City. The women of America began to evolve in the 1920s, adding new styles to our fashion industry and changing the way women dress, act, and are portrayed in society for generations. Women were viewed before the 1920’s as innocent housewives, that made little to no money, as they often relied on their husbands’ for income. Women also
Fashion is one of the key components that made the roaring twenties “roaring”. Every corner you go to you will be able to pinpoint colourfully decorated clothes as everyone is hyped and excited that the Great War has come to an end and the women, specifically had more freedom as all the jobs that women did during the Great War are now done by the men.
Have you ever seen people that follow a mixture of religions, dress differently in public all over

I spent much of my high school career researching colleges and universities. My mom and I traveled to well over 10 different colleges and universities in 4 different states trying to find the “perfect” school for me. By the end of my junior year of high school I had finally found the ideal school, or so I thought. The school was small, environmentally friendly, new, beautiful, diverse, and just happened to be located 1,000 miles away from home. Everyone at my small high school knew that I was going away to school and it was a huge deal because the majority of my classmates were going to in state schools. I traveled to the school multiple times for orientations, to meet my roommates, and to make sure it was the “perfect” school for me. Early May of my senior year of high school, right before graduation, I woke up with a feeling in my gut that this
The Renaissance time period started in the late 14th century and it lasted all through the 16th century. It all started in the late Middle ages throughout Italy (http://fashionhistory.net) taking at least one-hundred years before it reached the Northern Alps. This was also the period where the word “European” was put in use and understood by other places, and the word “Renascrere” originated from the Italian word “Renascrere” and it meant to be re-born. The word Renascrere fitted perfectly to this age due to the fact that many had intellectual pursuits and creative energy was re-born (www.richeast.org). The Renaissance would be best known for its artistic aspect and famous polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo given the term “Renaissance men.” It was an effective cultural and development of perspective in painting movement spreading to the rest of Europe and the advancements in science. Fashion is a form people use as a way for self expression. For me, fashion dictates how a person sense of style is; some may be bold and loud or simple and calm in which it also gives others an outlook on how their character may be. Although fashion is a way to express ones’ sense of style it does not tells us who the person is personally. Fashion in the society of the 1900s has changed female gender roles then and now by the way their roles changed during the time.
The industry sells its good through 3 channels and their sales with the market share:
Fashion was culturally formed, and there is a close relationship between art and fashion. The first designer who had his label sewn into a garment he created was Charles Frederick Worth (1825-1895). In the 1840s, adult women adopted a variation on girls' pantalettes as an undergarment. (Toccata: March 2010 toccatamundi.blogspot.com
Fashion, psychology and the sociological perspective have long been perceived as mutually exclusive concepts. However, is there a possibility that a trinity exists in the former? To illustrate, it is evident that throughout history fashion has influenced society as a whole and has mirrored its aspects i.e. economical and sociological. Furthermore, this influence has developed to be perceived psychologically where individuals identify with fashion in the sense of translating visual information showing their personal views and attitudes. To that effect, what is fashion? Traditionally and in the literary sense, fashion is defined as ‘a popular trend, especially in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior’ . However,
Fashion takes on many different facets and concerns many subsets— a model sashaying down the runway in a gown encrusted in real gems, Lady Gaga’s infamous dress made of cuts of raw beef, a teenage girl obsessing over the season’s latest styles— it is all an expression of our minds and who we are or want to be, made tangible. It is a medium just like any other, for while artists wield brushes and paints, designers use thread and cloth to illustrate their vision. The artistry is none more so apparent than in the exclusive world of haute couture, a world of extravagance that caters to aesthetics, producing one-of-a-kind wearable masterpieces that are made to be admired rather than worn. It is without doubt, high fashion and its design is an art.
Fashion is a currently valued style of appearance and behavior. It is a way to shape one’s external custom. The history of fashion dates back to hundred years ago and it has seen a remarkable progress in the 21st century. Man has endeavored a lot to bring new changes according to style and elegance that suits his needs and desires. Apparently, our culture is inclined towards fashion and change in the former brings change in the latter. When we talk about Pakistan, from the independence day of August 14, 1947 up-to-date, it has been a society in transition and being dynamic in nature, it isconsequently ever-changing and its patterns are transforming from time to time.
Fashion is a controversial issue in society nowadays. We live in a consumerism advanced era in which whether following fashion trends or not has become a debatable point. Many people believe that it is important to follow fashion trends. For example, Lord Chesterfield once said, “If you are not in fashion, you are nobody.” The question is why fashion should be an essential matter of concern to all of us. As far as I am concerned, each person should be able to decide if one wants to follow a trend or not.
