Family and general practitioners help people from the day they were born to the day they die. They are trusted, generous people who want to help people because it is the right thing to do. Also, they are a patient’s main doctor. They give the patients yearly checkups, diagnose diseases and also refer patients to specialists to get more information. Family and general practitioners are always learning about new diseases and new ways to help people. They are always expanding their knowledge and reaching out to other people so they can understand what is going on with diseases in their body as well. It also does not hurt that they can make up to $166,400 by the end of their career. They are, also, a part of the medical field which is expanding rapidly these days. The outlook for this career is very good. According to Big Future College Board, the government is expecting this job to grow faster than average other careers. They especially need family and general practitioners for the elderly population. However, new policies in health care coverage and progressing technologies could hinder job opportunities. Also, nurses and physician’s assistants are venturing into tasks that used to be only specialized for doctors. Overall, being a family and general practitioner is good career for people to look into because it allows people to help others and expand their knowledge.

First I would like to state that any career in a medical field takes a lot of dedication and many hours studying and it is not for everyone. I would also like to say once an individual has made a career out of it the job has long hours and can be very stressful, so I suggest readers to not consider a career in medicine unless you are genuinely interested in the work, and are not in it just for the money.
This report explores similarities and contrasts between two career options within the medical field, family physician and dentistry. This study will give the researcher, potentially a prospect student in either of these fields, a chance to investigate and understand the benefits of these two careers in United States focusing on several criteria outlined in the paragraphs below.

According to Paul, Ennis and Norris (1990), critical thinking is defined as the disciplined, intellectual process of applying skilful reasoning as a guide to belief or action. Heaslip (1993) stated that critical thinking in nursing for clinical decision-making is the ability to think in a systematic and logical manner with openness to question and reflect on the reasoning process used to ensure safe nursing practice and quality care. Jones and Brown (1991) defined critical thinking in nursing is the use of technique analysis, questioning, interpretation, and reflection to resolve patient care issues. It also meant that a variant of the scientific method used for decision-making in the medical field. Furthermore, Potter and Perry (2004) state that it is the ability to think critically through the application of knowledge and experience, problem solving and decision making is central to
Considering the intensified demand for primary care physicians amid this shortage, there have been many diverse elements influencing the current workforce 10. Given the patient expansion happening in 2014 the current supply of primary care physicians will likely be unable to properly care for the needs of the country. The aging physician population only fuels the need for a fresh supply of providers. In particular “A December 2010 Council on Graduate Medical Education report estimated that there were 242,500 PCPs in the United States in 2010, and almost 25% (55,000) of them aged ≥ 56 years.” 10! As with everything, there is also a financial incentive for the medical student to avoid going into primary care. PCP’s earn approximately only 55% of what their medical specialty counter part earns 10. In 2010 we are expecting PCP’s, which currently number at 205,000 to increase to 220,800. Conversely, PCP demand is expected to grow from 212,500 to 241,200, with such a significant shortage, nurse practitioners are now in an exciting position. For the first time, NPs are now in position make change happen, and take their position in the medical field 10.
Being a nurse practitioner is a good career. A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with an added education of two years, which gives them added advantage like those of a doctor. A nurse practitioner is different in his/her own way. He/she works along with other health professionals like doctors, pharmacists, and therapists. A nurse practitioner has mandates to treat the sick, prescribe drugs, and order for laboratory tests (Iglehart, 2013). The reason nurse practitioner is attractive is because I have always wanted to help people and the job is more challenging giving me the potential to grow. In this paper, I will discuss the duties of a nurse practitioner, the skills and education needed, pay range and the lifestyle.

Another important feature of medical-surgical nurses is the critical thinking. Besides, as a med-surgical nurse, critical thinking is a vital part of their job description. Especially, giving the prominence of their job. “Many nursing specialties require similar skill sets, but it is the intense level of coordination from the time patients arrive on the unit until after they leave – including post-discharge considerations like transportation and home health care – that distinguishes med-surg nursing” (https://www.amsn.org/practice-resources/what-medical-surgical-nursing). Moreover, they are knowledgeable about the working of the different systems in the body, likewise, diverse diseases. Additionally, they are compassionate about their job and those they serve (patients). As the Frontline providers, who spends more time with the patients, they listen to their apprehensions,
“The fact that critical thinking relies upon criteria suggests that it is well-founded, structured, and reinforced thinking, as opposed to “uncritical” thinking, which is amorphous, haphazard, and unstructured.”2 For instance, it is important in the academic field because it facilitates the individual to analyze, evaluate, and explain their thought in a clear manner. However, having this knowledge of logical inquiry doesn’t exempt people from making mistakes. Character traits such as bias can affect the effectiveness of the critical thinking process. Critical thinking skills can also be used by nurses during patient assessments. Through critical thinking, nurses can come to conclusive diagnosis or decisions of the situation at hand. Some Colleges now-a-days are including this skills in their curriculum to continue the professional development of their
