I have always enjoyed looking at photos of my family from before I was born and even from when I was younger. The photos give me an insight of what their lives were like; the celebrations, the emotions, the adventures, the family that they were and how the family has evolved over the years. The photograph periods range from my grandmother’s teenage years to about my first four years of life. Curiosity has always been a strong sense in me, so I always ask my mother about the people in the photographs. There are pictures that she will show me of my family members that are still in Mexico, ones that I have met and ones that I have not. I have met those people I tell myself, but they look a lot different and seem as though I have never met them. …show more content…
Before I said anything, I was thinking “How could I know who those people are when the picture is twelve or thirteen years old? Those people are not the same now as they were then. Physically they appear familiar, but that is all, aside from that I do not seem to recognize them.” I finally answer her and tell her, “No, I don’t know who they are.” She proceeds to tell me how great the man and the little girl’s relationship is, “She’s practically a daddy’s girl, to her he is her hero and the greatest man alive.” “But who are they?” I ask. She breathes and says, “It’s you and your dad.” I stare at the picture and process her words. The memories. The love. The happiness. Everything that I can remember floods into my brain. It is both nice, but also a horrible feeling. The people in the picture are my dad and I. I did not recognize us because of how happy and close we are in the photograph. We have not been those people in a very long time, the only proof left that we were those people are pictures and memories. We were so happy in the picture, little did we know that in the next few years we would no longer be that way. Little did we know that that photograph would serve purpose to remind whoever looks at it that we were once those
In the last two years Family Video's employee retention has dramatically decreased. Employee retention has gone from sixty five percent to a staggering fifty two percent in the last two years. Family Video is currently growing at an average of sixty new stores each year. With this rapid growth Family Video must focus on how to increase the employee retention.
Photography allows us to maintain memories and relish them whenever we desire. Although some advocates might argue that people are no longer enjoying experiences instead taking more pictures, in the essay, “Why We Take Pictures”, by Susan Sontag, she conflates that photography can be used as a defense against anxiety and a tool of empowerment. I agree with Sontag on the significance of photographs and how it allows us to store a part of our extended relatives so we are able to hold on the memories of family. Therefore, we must appreciate how photography allows us to manage anxiety, express feelings and remember our loved ones.
A picture is more than just a piece of time captured within a light-sensitive emulsion, it is an experience one has whose story is told through an enchanting image. I photograph the world in the ways I see it. Every curious angle, vibrant color, and abnormal subject makes me think, and want to spark someone else’s thought process. The photographs in this work were not chosen by me, but by the reactions each image received when looked at. If a photo was merely glanced at or given a casual compliment, then I didn’t feel it was strong enough a work, but if one was to stop somebody, and be studied in curiosity, or question, then the picture was right to be chosen.
Glamour photography is a genre in photography that creates a sensual picture through creative nudity to emphasize the charm of the female body. With the male audience as its main target, the breast and the buttocks are given with much exposure to capture its erotic nature. Body shape and size are the primary assets of the glamour models. The projection of their ideal body creates an imagery of eroticism and seduction that is surely enticing and captivating. Ranging from full-clothed to nude, glamour photography finds means to emphasize the flawlessness and perfection hidden in the female body—an iconic figure and a ideal of the time.
My mother and I live are the only ones in our family who live in America, while the rest of my family lives in Hong Kong. I met my
Photographs help further the viewers knowledge of history not only factually of what occurred but of what life was like also. Photographs allow the viewers to get a true sense of different parts of
Photojournalism plays a critical role in the way we capture and understand the reality of a particular moment in time. As a way of documenting history, the ability to create meaning through images contributes to a transparent media through exacting the truth of a moment. By capturing the surreal world and presenting it in a narrative that is relatable to its audience, allows the image to create a fair and accurate representation of reality.
From time to time, I like to look at picture from the past to remember and to learn about my childhood past. Some are even taking before color pictures existed,
Many people are familiar with the cliché “a picture is worth a thousand words.” In simpler terms, a picture can evoke memories and other sentiments that are much more complex than perceived at first glance. Photographs are especially unique because in some ways, they have the uncanny ability to transcend time and reality. Looking at a photo can take you back to a time where you were carefree and worriless, although your current situation may be the exact opposite. Looking at photos and reminiscing are particularly interesting when the viewer has some relation to the photo. Whether the viewer is the subject of the photo or was simply related to the circumstances portrayed in the photo, personal connections do seem to open the door to a whole other universe of interpretation. However, pictures also do have the ability to be deceptive and give off a feigned “reality.” People usually capture festive moments rather than despondent ones with the objective of making their family look cheerful and united in their family photo albums. Posing is a prime-contributing factor to inventing an inexistent reality within family photographs. In certain situations, photographs even have the ability to change our exact memories and adapt them to the elation and capriciousness portrayed in the picture. Only few people (i.e. the subjects of the photo) may be able to decipher the authentic sentiments behind the smokescreen that is posing for family photographs.
There were a lot of pictures taken that night, but out of all the pictures, this is the best one taken of everyone. Crouched down in front is Brent Dana. He has a grin on his face more than a smile. Brent hates pictures, and he doesn't smile in any of them; he is wearing his red "Rag Tails" shirt that he always wears. Next to Brent is Jade Walker. She has her hair back and is wearing her red "North Face" jacket. Jade has an adorable smile on her face. Next to Jade is Mary Attaway leaning over the table wearing a flowered backless shirt with a black sweater. To the right of Mary is Laura Jones. Laura is slightly leaning her head toward her right shoulder and is wearing a blue shirt with a drawstring tie in front. Laura has her arm around Erica Farnsworth, who has a yellow shirt and white jacket on. She looks especially happy; she is smiling from ear to ear.
Whether that means looking at a photo of a loved one, or doing the activity themselves. It encourages creativity and boosts self-esteem. In the blog Photography is Actually Good for Seniors, the author states “There are many unique benefits to practicing photography for seniors. Most of us know that there are many positive effects to practicing some type of art or craft. In addition, however, it seems that photography has a uniquely special impact on the well-being of the elderly” (Brown).

I remember them telling me that: “Things were bad at home, so we left.” It made sense to me, and it made sense to them when I told them that my Grandfather had gotten a new job, so we moved. I don’t remember the majority of our conversation, I do remember that they asked me some questions about English and I told them that their language sounded really pretty. One or both of these girls were my classmates for the next eight years and we were always on friendly terms, so I would say that the encounter was a positive one. The reaction from my family, was also
In this essay I will investigate the idea that photography has become a part of one’s everyday life, when we are taking a photograph we are actual taking a memory and making it ‘Immortal’. Freezing a portion of one’s life also becomes a social activity and the reason that one would pick up a camera and snap that ‘important’ event, would seem to be a very ‘normal’ or ‘natural’ part of one’s life, we also seem to think that it gives one an opportunity to be ‘accepted’ into today’s society, social networking sites have become the hart of the social climax of our forever snapping community. It was estimated there is over 16 billion photos on instergram [__]. We also seem to be documenting one’s life and using that frozen moment to express are feelings, such as joy, excitement, anger, proud(?) or even love. We also use photography in are society as a why to pass information, its become a massive part of are social network. To do this I will be looking at how humanity throughout history have photographed parts of their lives to create a memory, a ‘immortal’ memory.
