The first concept chosen was the long-term and sustainability aspects crucial to family policy development and when conducting a family impact analysis. Effective family policies should address immediate needs and anticipate future challenges and opportunities that might affect families, considering the evolving dynamics of family life. By considering long-term impacts and sustainability, policymakers can create policies promoting intergenerational well-being and supporting families in achieving their goals over time. Conducting a family impact analysis involves forecasting how policies may affect families in the future, identifying potential risks and benefits, and designing strategies to ensure the continued effectiveness of policies as circumstances …show more content…
The second concept chosen was understanding the interconnectedness of family dynamics. Understanding interconnectedness in a family dynamic is vital for creating effective policies and fostering healthy relationships within families. Policymakers can develop comprehensive solutions by recognizing how various factors, such as communication patterns, cultural values, and socioeconomic circumstances, interact and influence each other. Policymakers must identify how these elements interact and influence each other so they can design comprehensive family policies that address the diverse needs and challenges faced by different family structures. By analyzing interconnected factors, policymakers can create more holistic solutions that address multiple dimensions of family life. In my professional life, recognizing the complex web of factors that shape family dynamics can inform me to support individuals and families. Family is what you make it. The word family has many meanings. Everyone defines what being part of a family means, and what a family is in a different way. Families differ economically, socially, culturally, and so on. The nonfiction novel, In Cold Blood, by Truman Capote, tells the story of the brutal murder of the Clutter family in Holcomb, Kansas committed by Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. In the novel the reader is able to view the role of family and how it shapes individuals. Nancy Clutter, Dick Hickock, and Perry Smith all grew up in different family settings. These family settings helped transform them into unique individuals. All three of these characters can relate to this quote, “Any two people sharing a common blood line can call themselves relatives, but only when our lives are turned upside down can we truly see if we are a part of a family.” Throughout the novel, Nancy, Dick and Perry each were faced with life troubles that affect their families differently.
On the other hand, Gregory Mantsios’ point of view on the “effects on Family” that over the years, the upper-class who have more of an advantage due to better education, healthcare coverage and are fundamentally more well balanced have a better chance at getting married which gives them better family activities because they have financial acumen (Mantsios290). The wealthier you are, the more opportunities your family is given. Mr. Mantsios list four myths in his article that are relative to the “effects on family” which are: 1. “Rich or poor, we are all equal in the eyes of the law, and such basic needs as health care and education are provided to all regardless of economic standing.” 2. “We are, essentially, a middle- class nation. Coinciding with Erik Erikson’s Psychosocial Stages of Development, infants, who are struggling with the psychosocial crisis of trust vs. mistrust often crave security, intimacy and consistency when a new family member or structure is introduced. Developmental delays may be experienced and it is important to look for signs of “weight loss, diminished growth or unresponsiveness” (Temlock, p. 162.) Although infants do not possess the ability to cognitively recognize divorce or the formation of a blended family, they can often become nervous or insecurely attached to a biological parent as the result of the lack of trust built by the new step parent or family members. The emotional and
Since the 20th century, researchers have sought out solutions to help assist families and the individual components that make up family systems overcome the challenges and schisms that can inhibit individuation and stability. Two theoretical perspectives, the family-systems theory and the family-development theory, were conceived to gain as Balswick & Balswick (2014) noted, gain “a wide-angle view of family life” (p. 22). Though these two theories have merit, one I found to be more advantageous in gaining a better understanding of the family as an actively metastasizing organism, which needs to be approached more adaptively.
Families are an important part of every individual’s life and the right to a family is one that needs to be protected. The Family Preservation Policy works to keep families together despite having problems taking care of children, whether that is a...

The novel “Family Life”, written by Akhil Sharma, is a sorrowful story that follows a family that had moved from Delhi. Akhil does an amazing job narrating the families’ ups and downs throughout the story. Even though the story has a heartbreaking background, he does a phenomenal job managing to keep the reader’s attention. There were points where the book was so hard to put down, because of the suspense of what is going to happen next. The story is told masterfully, from the dialog and actions of the characters, to the beautiful description of the scenery of the story. When your reading “Family Life”, it’s almost as you’re watching this heart-stopping story unfold right in front of your very eyes.
The Family Stress Theory will be used to understand death in the family. Because death is a common part of life, many individuals aren’t prepared for it. Once a death occurs it can take a family through a wide range of emotions. Because of the emotions that occur in a family resulting from a death, the family can be put in a crisis. Family Stress Theory was created by Reuben Hill. This theory discusses how families react to stressful situations and suggests elements that help adapt to the stress (Smith & Hamon, 2012). Hill developed the ABC-X family crisis model, which explains how families respond to stress. It explains why families fall into crisis vs. why other families are able to cope when faced with stress. Hill’s model contains three variables, A, B, and C, which then develops X as an end result (Smith & Hamon, 2012). This model discusses the variable A, which is the stressor. The variable B, is the family’s strengths and resources and C is how the family defines the stressor. X is defined when the family cannot figure out how to overcome the problem, which then leads to a crisis (Smith & Hamon, 2012).
The family needs to be seen within the framework of their community, their culture, and society. An understanding of cultural and ethnic values is vital in evaluating the household capabilities to function. The family is understood to a complex system, and the strengths they display are as important as the problem that the family has. The family issue was perceived by the community’s ability to provide resources and social supports for the family.
The unit of a family is the most prominent essential for all of us. As social human beings, we seek social support in order to thrive, and that is where family comes into play. A family is where you receive love, support, encouragement, and many other social benefits. The total number of households in the United States increased from 63 million in 1970 to 113 million in 2008 (Weeks, 2012). The family has influenced multitudes of people in many ways. The traditional family in the United States consists two-married individuals providing care and stability for their biological offspring also know as the nuclear family. However, the term of a true family has ultimately changed over the last 50 years especially for African Americans.
Family Policy is referred to as all social and economic policies that affect the diverse families around the world, the family policy usually refers to the different social programs, laws, and public services that are designed to promote and
Spillover. The Family Systems Theory states that a child’s development is related to the interactions among the other individuals in the family, typically the relationship between the parents is the center of the family system and influences how the family functions as a whole. (Goldberg & Carlson, 2014). Parents need to know that the child’s well-being and development is affected by their parents’ ability to effectively communicate with another, be emotionally close, and be supportive of one another’s decisions and choices. (Goldberg & Carlson, 2014).
Family has a different meaning for each individual and no two families are exactly alike. My family of origin consisted of my father, mother, and two younger sisters. We are an ever changing support system, with daily interaction. Our family system was defined by the intersecting components and the controls that keep our system stable. To understand the various components of family systems, one must first understand the dynamics of the general systems theory when applied to individuals and families.
The family is a societal institution which initiates the positive and negative process of social interactions between people. Over the last few decades what constitutes the family has changed all over the world. Family in today’s environment is diverse in nature and may go beyond the scope of parents and children. Families can consist of variations in relationships such as close relatives, stepparents, half siblings and extended non-biological family members. Normally, immediate family members live in the same house, nearby, until the child reaches a specified age and maturity to go into the world and start their own family. Most often members of the families have intimate and personal relationships with each other. Within the family there is a continuation of social interactions between members that can influence and shape peoples responses and reactions to their larger societies.
